Chapter 76: Chapter 76: RELUCTANT BUT NO OTHER CHOICE
One week later, Calista sighed for the umpteenth time as she looked at the bag and baskets, she had meticulously prepared.
Thinking about why she was in such a state, she couldn’t help but be gloomy. However, there was nothing that she could do despite her gloomy state. It wasn’t like things were going to change suddenly because she didn’t like how things were progressing.
"Wife, don’t sulk for me, okay? I will be back once I have procured everything. at least with my presence there, I will bring what you want, than for others to go!" Orson coaxingly said as he pulled Calista into his embrace.
Calista didn’t say a word but closed her eyes as she enjoyed this moment. She didn’t know when would be the next time she was going to feel that. So, for now, she was going to do her best and enjoy the moment.
"You know that I will be waiting for you, right?"
"Um. How can I keep my dear waiting? When I am finished, I will return as fast as I can. I can’t keep you by yourself here!" he responded firmly, his embrace tightening as if he wanted to absorb her body into his.
Feeling that, a smile appeared on her face. At least his actions were sincere. With this, she didn’t have to worry a lot, right?
After all, how could the body lie?
Feeling a bit better after comforting herself, she opened her mouth, saying, "I will wait for you then. Remember to come as soon as possible."
"I will."
"Don’t forget to eat the food I have prepared. The money is more than enough, so don’t slight yourself. I wouldn’t want you to be thin by the time you return. I have fed you well, so don’t make my heart ache when I see you again, okay?"
"I will remember, dear. I won’t slight myself, don’t worry!"
"That’s better!" she sighed with relief after instilling the reminder in his head for a while.
The couple remained like that for a while before Calista patted Orson’s arm, making the man reluctantly let her go.
Calista turned her head and flashed a grin at Orson before leaving the bed and walking towards the cabinet.
Orson sees her going to the cabinet, the one which held the money and medicines. His eyes flashed for a second before returning to normal.
Calista opened the medicine drawer and looked at the bottles, which all looked the same and yet to her looked very different.
If someone else were to touch her cabinet, she wouldn’t be sure whether the person would take out medicine or poison.
After a quick glance, she picked a bottle in the corner. It was full compared to some of the bottles in the cabinet. After taking the bottle, she closed the drawer before returning to the bed.
She climbed onto the bed before sitting across from Orson in a lotus position.
"I don’t know how long it would take for you to return and what dangers you might face. So, bring with you this medicine. Its efficacy is high and can heal fast. It’s more or the same as the one I gave you the last time. Use it moderately and only when something goes wrong!" passing the bottle to Orson, Calista said earnestly, her eyes filled with unknown worry.
Although she believed in doctors, be it godly, ghostly or sham doctors, Calista ever since she got reborn, she didn’t want those people anywhere near her.
She had the medicines for any sickness she could ever want, so why should she waste her money by going to them? Although it was hard to bring back the dead, since she was no deity, it wasn’t that difficult to bring back someone who was on the brink of death.
She didn’t want anything happening to her husband, especially after he finished the medicine she gave him the last time. With a full bottle, he would survive longer if anything happened. If bandits attacked as they did to her deceased husband, Orson would have a saving grace.
Besides, this medicine was something she had in abundance, so it didn’t make her heartache as she gave it to him.
However, if she had known what her husband was thinking at that moment, she wouldn’t have dared to give him a full bottle. Unfortunately, she wasn’t a mind reader.
Orson looked gratefully at Calista, his expression that of someone who had become tongue-tied and unable to utter a word due to the shock.
Seeing him like that, Calista straightened her legs before approaching Orson with a sly smile on her face.
"Since you are grateful., how about you have some fun with this wife of yours?" she teasingly asked her hands on his thighs.
Seeing what she was up to, Orson’s lips curled upwards as his eyes twinkled mischievously. "Then I have to ask my dear wife. How do you want to play?" taking her hands in his and pulling her up so that their bodies were plastered with each other.
Titling her head to the side, the corner of her lips rising, she responded, "The hard way, darling. Are you up for it?"
Licking his bottom lip as he recalled his wife’s favorite hard play, amusement appeared across his face. "Then your wish is your command, mistress! When do we start?" asked teasingly at the end.
Seeing him playing along, Calista’s smile broadened. "Now!" came the answer.
***
Before dawn, Calista reluctantly pulled away from Orson’s embrace at the bottom of the hill.
"Take care of yourself, for me!" she mumbled reluctantly as she looked at the oxcart, which was ready to bring him away.
Orson sighed dejectedly as he looked at Calista’s state. "And you do the same for me. At most, I will be gone for two weeks if I am late. Eat on time and don’t cause trouble!"
"Umph, when have I ever caused trouble?" she harrumphed at the accusation of being a troublemaker.
If people didn’t provoke her, could she cause trouble?
"Yes, yes. My wife never causes trouble. I trust her!" he said with a light chuckle, ruffling her hair, which hadn’t been tied yet.
"Umph, at least you know!" she snorted as she raised her chin at him.
Orson burst into a hearty laughter, lessening the gloomy atmosphere a few moments ago, making the only observer, Frank, sigh with relief and at the same time, make him envious of how those two were sticky to each other.
After exchanging words back and forth, it was time for Orson to leave.
"Have a safe journey! And I love you!" those were the words Calista whispered and got taken by the wind as Orson and Frank disappeared from her view.
Standing on the side of the road, watching him leave, she held herself as she recalled the moment that night a week ago.
"I guess I can only trust that you will return. If you let me down, dear. Hehe, who knows!" with a strange laughter, Calista forced herself to ascend the hill.
Who knows what the future holds?
For the first time in her second life, Calista was looking forward to it.
