Chapter 75: SLIGHT MEMORY RECOVERY
Chapter 75: Chapter 75: SLIGHT MEMORY RECOVERY
Two weeks later
So many things happened during the period. The construction of the buildings Calista wanted was showing progress.
Every day these masons could be seen busy and many ox carts traveling up and down the road transporting the bricks to Cropville village.
There was a lot of laughter in the village as nearly everyone had something to do from kids to adults.
With more work to be done, more people were required for the job.
Calista was very generous and never slighted the people who worked for her.
In those two weeks, her relationship with the villagers improved greatly. They started disregarding the scary persona they all witnessed on that day and began to judge her accordingly.
Calista loved children a lot, so at times, she would be seen when she was free teaching them this and that. And that made their mothers especially send some gifts to her, which helped ease the relationship between her and the villagers as well.
As long as you share what you have with the villagers, they tend to look at you in a better light. After all, life was tough for everyone but with someone easing that, how could they remain the same?
At that time, Calista added a new building to the village, which was next to the shed she had the village chief a few years ago. Wanting to host workshops in the future, she felt that having a separate building would do the trick.
She didn’t want to her own buildings if such a situation ever came up.
The first building to finish completion was the clinic, it wasn’t a big building. The clinic had three rooms in total. One for storing medicine, one for the lobby or a waiting hall and lastly for treating patients or disbursing medicine.
With the clinic being so simple, it was reasonable that it became one of the first to be done.
With the completion of the clinic, there were celebrations in the village. Every household contributed except for Calista under the insistence of everyone.
A fancy banquet was held that night, and it was a beautiful night.
Returning home after midnight, walking hand in hand, Calista and Orson were admiring the beautiful night starry night without saying a word.
After being together for more than a month, the two of them had a tacit understanding which left a lot of people in awe.
As they approached the hill, Calista’s ears twitched as she heard the faint slithering a distance away coming towards their way.
Wondering what that kid was doing and at this time as if he didn’t see that Orson was around, Calista suddenly turned to face Orson and said, "Hubby, now that the clinic is done. I was thinking of going to the city to find some medicines. What do you think?" distracting Orson who was about to look in the direction where the sounds were coming from.
Hearing that from Calista, Orson pushed aside the unsettling emotion in his heart as a sudden thought emerged in his mind making his eyes twitch slightly before he answered, "Um, do you think that it is wise? If you go, it will take a while and you still need to oversee the sites?" his tone very worried.
Upon hearing that, a sense of pride filled her. What she liked about her husband was how he understood the family’s hierarchy. She was the head, and he was the tail. Whatever people think about that situation, she didn’t care. She was the one with the capital, so what she does goes.
Of course, she found joy in consulting her husband. After all, one way or the other they were still connected and would be living together for a very long time.
"Then what should I do? I can’t possibly wait for all buildings to be constructed before I look for medicine!" she sounded conflicted as she stated that. "There is no one I can trust to do this for me. No one knows medicine!"
Upon hearing that, a glint of determination flashed through his eyes as his hold on her hand tightened.
"Eh ... dear!" he called out to her after a while, a bit hesitant of whatever he wanted to say.
Calista, hearing her husband’s unusual hesitation, looked at him wondering what he was thinking about again. What did he want to say that he was that hesitant?
Even the way he held her hand went right at all.
"What is it? Just say it!" she said encouragingly, curious as to what her husband wanted to talk about.
Orson suddenly stopped, forcing Calista to stop as well, causing the couple to face each other, their shadows reflected by the moonlight.
"I .... Dear, if perhaps I ... you know if I kept a few things from you, would you be mad at me?" sounding and looking guilty, Orson inquired, his expression a bit bad.
Badum. Badum. badum.
Thump.
Upon hearing that, Calista felt her heart thumping just in her ears so loudly and that inkling that something she didn’t want to happen emerged.
There were so many things with Orson that could go wrong and could make her panic and enter such a state of fear and anxiety.
However, letting her fear and panic visible to Orson would be the greatest mistake she would ever make in her life. So, she curbed her restlessness as she faced Orson calmly as if she wasn’t in turmoil.
"That will depend on how serious they are. But I think that as long as you didn’t cheat on me, then I wouldn’t be mad!" after thinking about it, Calista responded and she was sincere about it.
She was the one in the wrong from the beginning, so anything can happen with Orson. For example, having a family out there and probably leaving her once all his memories had been recovered. Of course, it would be great if he didn’t have a family, as that would keep him tied to her side.
However, she wasn’t ruthless to the extent of keeping him away from his family. If that was the case, she would let him go, though her heart would ache since she had come to like him the more, she stayed with him.
As she waited for his response, she prayed earnestly to any goddess at that moment. Let it not be any memory recovery, she literally begged.
Unfortunately, the deities were offline for her that night as Orson’s words nearly shattered her into pieces, "I .... Think I recovered part of my memories."
