Chapter 74: Chapter 74: AS IF NOTHING EVER HAPPENED
Later that evening, Calista and Orson left the building site, walking hand in hand as if nothing had happened earlier.
When she returned from venting her anger, which had accumulated over the years, she found everyone blacked out, including Orson.
After administering spiritual energy combined with amnesiac energy, by the time everyone came to be, they had forgotten what had happened.
In fact, it was more of not knowing that something had happened, but they had forgotten it. it was as if time had frozen and only Calista and that family were moving.
So, for the remainder of the day, Calista watched with interest at how the masons were bringing her dreams to life, and at the same time, clung to Orson for no particular reason.
"Have you thought of what you will use the factories for once it’s done?" Orson asked curiously as he caressed the soft hand in his hand, walking on the dirt road with his interesting wife on their way home.
"Um, I thought about it. Since I have partitioned the factory into four, I will have the following departments. A clothing department, leatherwork department, sugar department and lastly food department!" Calista enthusiastically informed Orson of what she had come up with after thinking hard.
Although it had taken her too long to come up with ideas, the ones she picked were relatively safer than the other ideas she had in mind.
Being a person who transmigrated in several worlds, saw what was not in her world and knew what happens to a tall that stands taller than others, she knew how to be lowkey.
Although in the village, her lifestyle was nowhere near lowkey, for people in major towns and cities, she was nothing compared to them.
If she had brought ideas such as papermaking, rubber making, glassmaking and other sorts of ideas that weren’t yet famous, she would attract a lot of unwanted attention. As much as she wanted to help the villagers, it wasn’t to the extent of exposing herself.
By picking ideas which others had already chosen and done, she was just like a rich lady who wanted to earn money and spread the techniques already there.
She was very grateful to whoever produced sugar. Sugar-making processes weren’t that secretive anymore. Although the majority of the public didn’t know, several merchants, families, and kingdoms were making sugar.
So even if she started a sugar factory, no one would raise their eyebrows. Besides, the district she lived in was well known for its sugar cane, beet and sweet reeds. However, what villagers mostly do is consume these and sometimes sell them. She wanted to monopolize all of it and make something wonderful with it.
Rather than making outsiders rich, why not support their own?
The next department was leatherwork. In places like hers, there were still hunters. Even when they aren’t hunters, there are still livestock with skin which can be used to make shoes, bags and other items.
People in villages were struggling and buying a single bag in town was very costly, so why not do it themselves? But before that, learn how to use the leather they either use as mats or sell cheaply to those black-bellied merchants.
The third department was for clothes. Every person needs clothes. Is it warm, airy or anything? People can’t go anywhere without clothes. People in villages, something that always bugger her, was how they loved using coarse clothing which was cheaper to buy but rough to the skin. Why did they have to wear such clothes just because they were peasants?
She wanted to change the villager’s life, and if she could get access to cheap and yet good fabrics, she wanted to let her fellow villagers wear nice clothes as well. The factory didn’t need to be too profitable. As long as she manages to improve the villagers’ lives, she will be content.
The food department would be the last department in the factory and this department would be in charge of processing foods which can be sold to other villagers, passersby or merchants. There was food such as dried, smoked or roasted which can last longer than fresh food. If they manage to make those, wouldn’t it be easier to sell them and earn more money?
So those four made up the big factory she was building.
Orson acknowledged with a nod as he listened to her rambling about the factory cheerfully.
"It sounds good, and I am certain that things will work well."
"I hope so. Before starting, I will have to find teachers to teach the villagers and anyone interested in working at the factory. Only when they are knowledgeable can they work efficiently. I might have to hold some classes for them. They need to learn how to read and write, at least the basics."
"Um, that’s true. Without knowing a few, how can they learn efficiently?"
"It’s going to be hard work, but one I am willing to endure."
"I will keep on rooting for you!"
"Hehehe, I will hold you on to that!"
The couple chatted relaxedly, discussing the future of the projects and Orson found the conversation very entertaining.
He was used to giving orders and not discussing business matters. Whatever he wanted goes, and yet here he was discussing with her, although she wasn’t basically asking for permission.
The fact that she was willing to share with him about her plans without hiding made him look at her fondly.
The couple soon ascended the hill and were welcomed by Whitey, who kept on meowing as he rubbed his small head in Calista’s arms.
All he could see was Calista laughing as she massaged Whitey, as if she was coaxing the little thing. Looking at the interaction between the two, he wondered if he could warn her about his suspicions regarding the cat.
But when he saw the eerie glare from the kitten as if it could read his thoughts, he looked away as if nothing had happened.
’It seems I have to bid for time!’
