Chapter 72: Chapter 72: SHE LED A MESSY LIFE!

"Tsk. Tsk. Pretending to be high and mighty in front of your kids and yet can’t even stand a single confrontation? I warned you years ago, Mary. Raise your children properly and, since you have kicked me out, then let us live our lives without interfering with each other. I have done my part and never once did I set foot in this village. I mourned our husband in my own way and was faithful to him for three good years. I did everything that a wife should do and I never questioned how you did your duties for him."

"However, why do I need to tolerate daily daunting just because your daughter doesn’t like me and is not finding someone to marry her? Why should I tolerate her words? Just because I married your husband. Why does that have to be my fault?" Calista angrily shouted at Mary, who was not saying a word but facing down, looking very guilty from the top of her head to the feet that were hidden beneath that messy skirt.

Benita, seeing her mother being scolded and threatened, how could she tolerate that?

"You ... stop scaring my mother. Was she the one coming to you?"

"You, keep quiet. It’s not your turn when the elders are speaking!" Calista hushed Benita, who still didn’t know how to respect her elders. If she had a daughter like her, she didn’t know how she would straighten her out until she knew all manners.

"You, Mary. Have you forgotten what you did back then? When I married your husband, did you forget everything? I had to live ten good years being insulted for being a vixen, but what about you? Have you forgotten that it was you who agreed to the damn marriage? If I hadn’t caught you with ...."

"Don’t say it, please?" suddenly the scaredy Mary began to plead, her eyes red and fearful.

"Hahaha, I shouldn’t say it? When she was going around calling me a hen that doesn’t lie eggs, why didn’t you stop her? Do you remember why I became such a hen in the first place? However, for your sake and the kids, I kept my mouth shut. But you just don’t know how to control your daughter."

"If it wasn’t for me, all these proud kids of yours, do you think that they would be where they are today? Do you think our dear husband was that lucky to get prey every single time? The mountains are barren already. Where can you find prey all the time?"

"I was the one who fed you, clothed you and made you very plump. The tuition fees, and every single expense this household spent. I fished all that money for five good years. I had to live for five years as a home wrecker, and you were a benevolent wife who was faithful to the end. But ask your conscience, are you really like that? If I am to go and ring the hall bell, what do you think will happen?" she asked mockingly, as she circled Mary in disguise.

Recalling all the things which happened behind the scenes where the society wasn’t looking, she felt disgusted and found herself a fool. However, if she were to do it again, she would still do it. Why? That’s how love damaged her mind whenever she was caught in its web. And back then, she was in John’s web.

If she let him worry all the time, how could he be with her?

Besides, he was getting old, and any stimulation would kill him. And she didn’t want to see that.

"You ... please.... Don’t continue!" Mary begged once again, but was she willing to listen to the plea? This time, Calista wasn’t playing any games at all.

"Mom, what is she talking about?"

"Hehe, even your daughter is quite curious about it, too. Why don’t you tell her? Oh, you can’t. It’s very embarrassing it?" Calista laughed out loud at seeing how Mary was shaking, her eyes still pleading, but did anyone show her mercy when she wanted it?

"You want to know who I am? Hehe, I am someone that you can’t afford to offend. If I want you dead, I will make sure that you are dead, but if I want you to live, then congratulations. That’s how deadly I am!"

"Then if it’s like that, why did you let Dad die? You are the one who killed him?" Benita’s hysteria returned once again.

"Oh! Why don’t you ask your mother about that?" smiling slyly at Benita, Calista directed the question to Mary, who shrunk her neck lower, making her look suspicious.

"Mom, you ....."

"All four of you can have a family meeting when I am gone. Ask your mother anything you are curious about. I am too lazy to respond to you. Besides, why should I?"

"I just came here to give you one last warning. If I ever see any of you causing me trouble again. Trying to cause a rift between me and my husband, it doesn’t matter whether I did it or not. I will make the whole family mourn for you the next day."

"As for you Benita, this wonderful mother of yours made me a hen which can’t lie eggs. I will kindly invite you to a baby shower in a few months. Please be alive by that time. And if you are curious about what I mean, it’s just a celebration of being pregnant."

"As for your friend, I had no idea that she was the person involved. None of you know where I came from, so what makes you think that you can forge my background at will? Do I look like a pushover to you? Your friend got what she deserved and if you know what’s good for you, you better not mingle with such bad eggs like that. I want to know what made her hate me so much to find a person like that to tarnish my name. I will not let her go scot-free. You will all be punished."

"And one last thing, if you dare reveal what I am and what happened today. I will tell the whole village about your real identity. I am curious to find out where the lot of you will go. Haha, in fact, I am looking forward to it!" Calista couldn’t help but laugh out loud as she pictured how hilarious that day would be.

How chaotic the village would be if the truth ever gets revealed.

"You .... You have said enough!"

"We have heard you. Please leave!" suddenly two more people who pretended to be at home when she came earlier emerged and chased her away.

’Tsk. Tsk, tsk. Not even a greeting for your former mother! You heartless children!" she clicked her tongue as she looked at the two grown-up men, one older than her and another around the same age as her.

"Just leave!" the older one growled threateningly at her, making her body shake with laughter. Who was he trying to scare? Did he even know that she had no inkling of how scary she could be when she was angry or threatened?

"Fine, I will go!" she acquiesced after seeing that she had achieved the effect she wanted.

If they had the guts to run amok after this, then they would be looking for trouble.

The four glared hatefully at Calista, who was dusting the non-existent dust off her clothes, praying desperately for her to just leave.

Fortunately, she didn’t let them down as she vanished at the spot, scaring the heck out of them again, as they were not used to seeing such things.

However, as the shield went down, disturbing words suddenly sounded in all of their ears, making them shudder with more fear.

"If you dare expose me, I will dare expose that your mother is the greatest wh*** this whole district had ever seen. So, daring to pass other men’s children as my husband! Very shameful!"
