Chapter 70: Chapter 70: PROGRESS

When dusk arrived, Calista was standing in her yard, a smile on her face. There was no good place like home.

As much as going places sounded pretty cool, the security one just felt when home was different from when out there.

Even if there is nothing at home, the fact that you call it home makes it different and very special. A home is a place that makes you feel warm automatically without doing much. It’s a place which is filled with memories, whether bad or good, though she leaned more toward the good side.

There was no way she would call a place that would haunt her in the dreams as home. That place would be a haunted house and definitely not a home.

And having the naughty son of hers in hand, Calista was even more satisfied to have returned home. Only if the other naughty son of hers loved staying at home. But it was good that he was away. Imagine if he was at home. Wouldn’t everyone freak out with how playful he was?

Calista watched as the men finished carrying everything out of the ox-cart. Since the luggage was a lot this time, the ox-cart ascended the hill, which was tiring for the ox.

Thankfully, no person was on the ox-cart, so the ox had it easy as it ascended.

After loads and loads of things were offloaded from the ox-cart, Calista took out a wrapped item from one of the baskets and gave it to Frank.

"It’s beef. Have your wife prepare some nourishing food for you. You have been working hard!" she said to Frank.

Frank didn’t stand on ceremony but accepted the beef with both hands. Why should he reject free meat?

"Thank you!" before he left, he didn’t forget to show his gratitude.

With him gone, Calista ruffled Whitey’s fur before placing the kitten on the ground. In the next few hours, the couple were busy taking what should be taken inside the house there and the meat to the icehouse.

By the time they were done, they were both exhausted, however; they didn’t forget to take their night bath before going to sleep.

The next morning, when the rooster crowed for the second time, Calista opened her eyes groggily as she cursed the loud rooster for spoiling her dream.

Looking at her deceitful husband, something that she didn’t really hate since she wasn’t clean herself, she wondered how nice it would be if that dream manifested in real life.

Thinking about the dream, she found herself placing her small hand on her flat stomach before sighing, "How could it be that fast?"

Getting a reality check, Calista climbed down the bed sullenly and took out her daily rewards under the pillow before a smile appeared on her face.

The bounty this time was enormous. She didn’t know what happy situation the goddess of luck came across, but whatever it was; she prayed for it to happen every day.

It wasn’t every day that she got a banknote.

Calista stopped asking herself some unnecessary questions which required deep thinking. For example, how was it possible to wake up with money under her pillow and so forth? Since she was able to die, transmigrate and get reborn again, what else was impossible?

After picking up the 10-silver bank note, she happily hummed a tune, forgetting that Orson was still sleeping. She placed the note among the other notes before she started with her daily chores.

Around seven in the morning, breakfast was prepared, bath water was on the fire and, most importantly, the house was clean. Orson once again proved how good of a househusband he was.

’At least, even if he pretended to not remember anything. I can still have someone to help me with the chores.’

It wasn’t like she needed him to work that hard. She didn’t get a husband to let him work. She was going to become a version of a woman she once saw; they called her Sugar Mommy. She provides for everything for her man, though what she saw was the man being younger. But in her case, it didn’t matter.

She was going to provide for him and spoil him so badly that even if he wanted to leave and return to his family, he would think twice before trying. Where else would he find someone like her?

Around nine in the morning, Calista and Orson left the hill walking hand in hand.

The first place she went was the roadside, since she couldn’t see it properly or didn’t have much time to look at it when she returned.

The roadside was the first place to get cleared, and it looked too clean. It made her happy.

After seeing that place, they went to the wasteland and when they arrived there, only a small piece remained. Everyone was busy, from the men to the kids, which was quite a scene to see.

Calista met with Ba Susan, who briefed her on what was happening and hearing the progress, she was all smiles.

Most of the bricks had already arrived, and in a day all the land would be cleared, which means that the masons could start building once it was done.

Calista gave Ba Susan the money that she owed. As for the food, she had left enough at their house before she left, so she didn’t have much worries about that aspect.

Later that day, Calista met with the masons and using the sites and the plans she sketched when she was in Silverbroke town, she discussed with them and they all agreed on what needed to be done.

The masons split the jobs into three; the factory, the dorms, and the other taking both the clinic and the first roadside restaurant.

This way, Calista would know which mason to go to if a problem ever arises.

With all the duties assigned to the masons, all she needed to worry about was how to get more bricks, medicine for the clinic and what to cook when the restaurant opened.

There was also what she needed to do with the factory once it was done getting built. However, the majority of the matters were all cast to the side.

She had one great job to do in the meantime and she was going to work extremely hard for it and strive to not cause any problems.

But at times, what people wish for doesn’t usually come true.

That was another truth which slapped Calista in the face on a certain day as she monitored the foundation of the restaurant taking form.

"You who***!"
