Chapter 64: Chapter 64: LIFE OF A HARMONIOUS COUPLE

In her hand, she was holding on to 2 silver coins, which was quite a gain since lately after the wedding she had been getting copper coins. At least after gathering the copper coins, they would still amount to a big number, which can be used resourcefully.

Calista added the silver coins to the other silver before closing the drawer. She left the bedroom and headed for the bathroom, where she brushed her teeth and washed her face.

Done with the grooming, she returned to the bedroom and found a black dress to wear after taking off her nightwear.

Changed into working clothes, Calista took the lamp with her and headed downstairs.

Downstairs, she picked a few items from the kitchen before going outside.

"Meow!" as soon as she stepped outside, a wave of cold air blew right in her face making her shiver however it wasn’t that alone as Whitey greeted her cutely as he lay in his lair, hollowed from a very strong tree keeping the tree house in position.

"Good morning to you too!" she greeted back as she shrunk her neck in the cotton-padded jacket before dashing towards the kitchen.

Early that morning, before the sun rose, Calista busied herself with preparations. She would be going to Silverbroke that day, so she had to prepare a lot.

Every time she went to town, she would bring a few things to sell, and this time it was the same. Earning a few more bucks wasn’t something that she was against, especially now that she had several projects that were waiting for her.

That morning, Calista roasted fish, and pheasant until everything was golden crispy. Done with that, she deep-fried potatoes and sweet potatoes to make chips and set them aside.

She prepared some mashed potatoes and other assorted meals for sale and personal consumption.

By the time she was done, four hours had passed, which was quite reasonable considering the number of meal baskets that were in front of her.

After finishing cooking, Calista had the cauldron of water over the fire so that once the water had boiled, they would take turns to bathe.

While waiting for the water to boil, Calista gave Whitey a piece of fish before returning to the treehouse where she found Orson awake and busy spreading the bed.

"Good morning, dear!" Calista greeted Orson cheerfully as soon as she saw him.

Orson smiled at her as he returned her greeting. "A good morning to you too? Are you tired?"

Hearing concern in his voice, she gave the man a bright smile as she replied, "Nope. I might be lazy at doing other things but cooking, I never get tired from doing it!" being sincere about it.

Orson smiled relievedly upon hearing that. "That’s good then. I will give you a massage later!"

"Sure!" and she beamed at hearing that.

Calista then shifted her focus from Orson to the huge wardrobe in front of her. Since she was going on a trip, she needed clothes, not just for her, but also for her husband.

So, on the side, as he tidied the room, Orson watched as Calista mumbled something to herself as she picked this and that, and many clothes looking very confused.

And picking and packing clothes lasted for a very long time, as by the time that he saw her leaving the treehouse, an hour should have passed.

And when he saw the bags, she had packed, he couldn’t help but shake his head helplessly. All that time was wasted on a few outfits. Just how worrisome was it to find clothes?

Unfortunately, being a man, how could he understand the nature of women when it comes to their fashion sense?

The wife and husband helped each other with the chores, and when it came to bathing time, Orson suggested bathing together, which was something that Calista would never say no to. And thanks to that, the two of them saved water and time and she also got her well-needed massage.

An hour later, they were both dressed, fully fed, and ready to go.

Calista checked everything thoroughly for the umpteenth time before she was satisfied. Fortunately, Frank, who was sending them to Silverbroke, was busy carrying some of the baskets with Orson down the hill, so there wasn’t much for her to do.

Seeing that those two still had a long way to go, she looked towards the back of the hill where Whitey was chasing after a butterfly and said to no one in particular.

"Take care of the house when I am gone. If you siblings fight, I swear to you that I will halve your feed. And keep trespassers away and don’t get found out!" she said threateningly, though a doting smile could be seen on her face.

Whitey stopped what he was doing and meowed at her before resuming to play the chasing game with the butterfly.

A while later, Orson returned by himself, and she joined him with the rest of the remaining baskets.

Walking together like a celestial couple descending an immortal mountain, Calista felt that life was pretty good this time around.

She didn’t have any stress, no pressure from other people, and no co-wife to compete with. What more could she ask for this time?

A lot probably!

When had it become easy for a person to be satisfied?

Frank felt envious as he looked at the couple descending the hill, looking carefree, as if they were the only people in the world.

The way they interacted freely without any worries and just seemed to resonate well with each other. He envied that.

Not that his wife was bad, but just like the many people he knew, all of them seemed to be restrained by something which made them not reveal their true feelings even when they were outside. And yet, these two were very different.

It didn’t matter where they were. As long as they felt like it, they would always show it. If they were pretending, then they were definitely great actors and could surpass those actors he saw at the theatre several years ago.

With all the luggage brought to the oxcart, the journey finally started.
