Chapter 60: WALKING THE WALK
Chapter 60: Chapter 60: WALKING THE WALK
"Oh, my goddess! That’s your husband? He is a handsome lad!"
"Is he a scholar?"
The more she listened to these villagers praising her husband, the prouder she became.
’It was a good thing I had him take the medicine!’ she sighed, relievedly thinking of how her last-minute decision brought good results.
At least with Orson showing his handsome face, those who loved talking behind other people’s backs wouldn’t have many bad things to say.
With such a handsome face, how could they dare talk nonsense?
"Hehe, thank you. I do have a good choice, don’t I?"
"Your choice is impeccable!" the granny, who had asked before, praised her wholeheartedly.
"Haha, thank you very much, everyone!"
Watching as Calista stopped now and then as she boastfully introduced him to the villagers, he cooperated well and by the time they arrived at the village chief’s house, the old man was already tired of waiting.
"Were you not planning on arriving?" and as soon as they arrived, the old man began to scold.
Hearing the old man doing that, Orson was curious to hear her response, but when he did, he looked apologetically at the old man. However, Ma Susan simply dragged him away.
"Those two, alas, they will never finish. Just let them be. I have already prepared some refreshments. They will need it after they are done!" looking relaxed as she left her husband and his wife glaring at each other like two roosters, Ma Susan said.
"This, Aunty, is it okay to leave them like that?" Orson asked worriedly as he looked at the old man who was now shaking, probably with anger with whatever Calista had said.
"Hehe, he will not die. Just consider this his exercise. With Calista around, the old man will not die easily!" after all, where can he find someone who knows how to train his muscles that well?
With her around, the old man would get angered, calm down and force him to exercise his muscles as well as the mind.
Orson, hearing that, wondered if that was the correct way to do things. He was very knowledgeable when it came to medicine, and yet this method was unheard of. What if the old man dies of being angered too much? Wouldn’t that be deadly?
Unfortunately, he didn’t dare say anything.
Moments later, Orson’s ears perked as he drank the tea that he had been given. For a moment there, he felt as if his ears were failing him, but when the voices came near; he realized that he had been worried for nothing.
"Uncle, you should have agreed from the beginning. Must you suffer a loss first before you acquiesce?"
"You .... One day I will have the upper hand"
"Haha, I am looking forward to that day!" Calista laughed mercilessly as she entered the room with her hands held behind her back, not very ladylike.
Orson seeing her like that. The first thing he did was to look at the two elders, however, seeing them not minding it, he relaxed. Just how close were these people for them to act like that? Weren’t they afraid of what other people would say if they saw that?
However, as he listened to them talking later, he realized that he had been overthinking again. These people would never change, and he would only stress himself if he continued.
"Uncle, you must not forget. I need that wasteland cleared as soon as possible. And find me a reliable mason and one who can make a brick house. I will be building brick buildings."
"What about the other land on the roadside? What are you planning to do with it?"
"Oh, if you hadn’t mentioned it, I would have forgotten. Have the land cleared as well? I want to build some shops there. Our village is a hot spot with so many people passing to Silverbroke and vice versa. I want to start a market there. There won’t be a problem, right?"
"No, the land belongs to our village. Besides, you will only be rewarded if you start something like that."
"Then that’s good. Just have them clear the land first. When I return from Silverbroke, I will come with more instructions. However, find me a mason or two. Money is not a problem!"
"I will call for a meeting and inform the villagers. The job will be done before you return!" the village chief assured, making Calista smile happily.
"I will leave everything in your hands then," she beamed.
Ba Susan smiled as well. Seeing that Calista was owning up to her promise and that a lot of villagers would be gaining from what she would be doing, he was happy. As a village chief, his duties were towards his village.
He also wanted to see his village prosper. Unfortunately, all these years, nothing was happening, but now that Calista was willing to do that for him and everyone, how could he be lazy?
"And another thing, find a suitable place to build the clinic, Uncle. I will use my funds for that. However, we will have to find a doctor. As long as we have a clinic, we might draw a lot of people to the village. Don’t you think so?" when everyone thought that Calista was done, she suddenly dropped another bomb, startling the Dickens couple.
"You .... What did you say?" clutching his chest, Ba Susan panted heavily as he exclaimed shockingly looking at her.
Even Orson, who wasn’t expecting Calista to say that, looked at her with a surprised expression, wondering what she was up to this time.
’Did I say it at the wrong time?’ she wondered as she scratched the back of her head.
"I am saying that I want to build a clinic for the village unless you don’t want me to do so?"
"You .... Don’t you know how to discuss serious matters like that? How can you just announce it unexpectedly like that?" Ma Susan chided Calista, who nearly gave them a heart attack.
Calista smiled sheepishly, finally getting what the elders were hinting at. Rubbing her nose embarrassingly, she said, "I was too excited. I found myself just saying. Please, forgive me!"
"Are you sure you want to do this for us?"
"I don’t joke, uncle. I will do my part as I promised!" she said solemnly, her eyes showing great determination, similar to the kind she showed when she scammed Orson into marrying her.
Orson seeing that, a smile blossomed on his face. ’She is kind in her ways. How very generous of her!’
