Chapter 54: ON A SILVER PLATTER
Chapter 54: Chapter 54: ON A SILVER PLATTER
The next morning, Calista obsessively looked at her husband who reminded her of sleeping beauty, a story she chanced upon in a certain world she went to do a task.
How wonderful it would be if he were like a sleeping beauty. At least she didn’t have to worry about a lot of things. Let him sleep for a long time until her heart was calm.
Unfortunately, he wasn’t a sleeping beauty, and she didn’t dare turn him into one. So, she could only curb her madness and reluctantly sat on the bed.
It was morning, and the rooster had crowed two times already. Although she didn’t want to wake up, she didn’t have a choice. It was one of those days when she needed to move her limbs and work hard.
After not visiting the river for a long time, the laundry had piled up, and it was an item to wash it.
Susan would be dropping in a while to bring her to the river.
Although she didn’t want to leave her husband’s warm embrace, she was still a woman and, as a woman; she needed to work.
So after reluctantly waking up, she put on the sandals that were by the bedside and left the bedroom silently, without making a lot of noise.
Unknowingly, as soon as she left, a smile crept on Orson’s face before he found a comfortable position and returned to sleep.
Calista went to the bathroom, where she washed her face and brushed her teeth before returning to the bedroom. In the bedroom, she opened her wardrobe and picked a fresh black outfit which she wore before leaving the bedroom once again.
As it was early in the morning, her reason for waking up apart from doing laundry was to make food. Since she would be spending a while at the river, she wanted to leave her husband with food to keep him for the day.
She didn’t want him getting tempted by any hussy’s food just because she was too lazy to do so.
So that early morning, she handled the pots and in less than two hours, she not only packed two meal boxes for him but two for herself as well as some for Whitey.
After dishing everything, she washed the plates and cleaned briefly the kitchen. As for the main house, she would leave that to Orson. He was pretty good at cleaning.
Calista took a nice bath and let the warm water wash away all the chilliness that seeped into her bones because of waking up early. Winter was truly approaching, and she could feel it.
After bathing, Calista picked a brown dress, another uniform of hers whenever she was doing laundry.
By the time Orson woke up naturally and properly, Calista was busy checking the medicine bottles with a frown on her face.
"Wifey, good morning!" he greeted cheerfully as soon as he saw her.
Without panicking, Calista turned her head around and looked at her husband, who looked so handsome even when waking up. If it wasn’t for the damn scar she recklessly put there, he would be perfect.
"Morning, hubby. Did you sleep well?" she asked smilingly, her gaze on him, not shying from looking at him.
Being used to being stared at like that, Orson didn’t feel any discomfort, but he was rather happy.
"I slept exceptionally well. Are you going somewhere?"
"Um, I am going to the river with Susan today. It’s laundry day!"
"Oh! Can I go with you?"
"Not today. I have other things for you to do!" she rejected straight away.
Hearing that firm answer, he only chuckled, loving how she was a jug of vinegar. Her jealousy knows no bounds.
"I will stay at home or maybe go and see if I can find a prey or two outside!"
"Then be careful. Anyway, before I leave, I want you to have this. It’s medicine. You dab it on your scar. Don’t use too much but use moderately. It will heal your scar!" Calista suddenly said as she looked at him affectionately.
Orson froze as he looked at the medicine bottle that Calista was handing over to him.
"Are ... you .... Are you sure you want to give me something that precious?" he stuttered as he looked at her, disbelief and shock written all over his face.
Calista, seeing that, couldn’t help but chuckle heartedly as she walked towards him.
"You are my husband and since I decided to trust you, then this is how I apologize. You have a handsome face, so you should walk out there proud. Get rid of the scar and only when it’s not there will I show the world that you are mine!" she said shamelessly as if she wasn’t the one who caused the scar in the first place.
Hearing such domineering words, how could Orson, who had been itching to get his hands on this medicine, not accept such a gift?
"This ... then I will accept it. But if I take it, what about you?"
"Haha, don’t worry about me. There is more from where that came from. You can keep this bottle and use some to make a concoction and drink it occasionally. It has great healing qualities and can heal internal wounds. So, make sure you keep it safe and don’t lose it!" Calista explained further as she placed the bottle in his hands.
Orson grasped the bottle as if he had been gifted a pardon to the king. Seeing how much the bottle seemed to mean a lot to Orson, Calista became happy. At least she had given him something that he liked and was useful to him.
It would be sad if she didn’t manage to give him what he wanted. Of course, there was one thing she didn’t dare tell him. What she had given him was a diluted version of the original.
What this medicine could do, the original could do better. Unfortunately, no matter how much she trusts a person, it wouldn’t be to the extent of revealing some hidden cards she received after completing her world-hopping tasks.
"Thank you, I will use it wisely!" Orson, after a while, expressed his gratitude, oozing with sincerity.
Calista freely waved her hands, and said smilingly, "Don’t say that. We are family!"
And before Orson could respond and say touching words which would make her reluctant to leave, Calista bade her husband farewell and even forgot to tell him about the food she had left for him in the kitchen.
Leaving the hill as if running for her life, Calista descended with a big basket full of dirty clothes and linen, and a food basket which contained her two meal boxes.
Whitey escorted her until she was at the bottom hill before a slithering sound sounded in the nearby grass.
Whitey, hearing the sound, immediately zoomed away, leaving just a mirage that he was once been there, disappearing into the grass as well.
’Seeing your sibling and you forget your mother. What an unfilial child!’ she cursed inwardly as she shook her head, looking in the direction those two were playing.
