A Love Reborn: Finding Romance Twice In One Lifetime -
Chapter 52: HAPPY
Chapter 52: Chapter 52: HAPPY
Orson carried the two rabbits and pheasants he just caught when he was at the mountain earlier.
Thinking about his newly wedded wife, he couldn’t help but smile. He couldn’t help but wonder what was currently running in her mind right now.
He had noticed that she tends to overthink and when she was in that state, her possessiveness would be on another level.
In the past three days, he felt like a prisoner, something that he hadn’t felt like in a very long time. However, the more she acted like that, rather than being disgusted, he felt wonderful.
For a man like him, who had seen a lot of treachery, schemes, deceit and betrayal, to see a woman like Calista whom he knew was way more powerful, maybe even more than him, act that way towards him. If it wasn’t because he was in her heart, would she act like that?
She was someone who could have anyone she wanted, and yet she just had to pick him among the masses.
She could have used any of those mysterious medicines to deal with him, maybe turn him into a puppet, and yet she didn’t do such things. Rather, she used her wits to scam him beautifully in a marriage. Of course, if he didn’t agree to it, there wouldn’t be any marriage. However, everything about her, the mystery that shrouded her, her confidence and brazenness, made him think otherwise.
Just how powerful was she to be able to maintain that array which shielded the house loosely like that? It could be triggered at any time and he had realized that sometimes, even when they were together, the array could be triggered. However, he hadn’t seen her doing anything.
Just who gave her that array or who taught her?
In fact, just who was she?
Did she perhaps come from those mysterious, hidden families he had heard so much about?
He didn’t come across a full family, but during his adventures around the globe; he came across some individuals from those kinds of families. And those people were monsters. It was a good thing that none of them were truly interested in taking over or ruling the mundane world, otherwise where would people like him flourish?
If she was from such a kind of family, it would all make sense. Otherwise, how could appearing from nowhere make sense?
How was it possible for her to have all of this? Things that would drive his elders insane and make them turn against each other. There was so much treasure lying around on the hill, and yet she didn’t seem to care much.
Gathering all those, Orson became more certain that his wife held a huge secret. And convincing himself of that, he shuddered with fear.
It seemed that he needed to tread carefully. He needed that medicine desperately, but if he provoked such an entity, wouldn’t he put everything that he loved at risk because of rashness?
So, as he saw the hill coming into view, he made a final choice. Since the medicine wasn’t needed desperately at the moment, he was going to bide his time until she trusted him enough. But before that, he was going to pretend as if he wasn’t aiming for her medicine.
However, as he approached the array which had been taken down who knows when, he couldn’t help but frown again as he recalled a person who reminded him of Calista.
’It’s impossible. That can’t be her!’ he shook his head convincingly as he continued to stride forward.
As soon as he stepped onto the hill, a familiar white flurry ball zoomed in front of him before crouching in front of him, a few paces away from him.
Orson stopped in his tracks and looked at his wife’s son, Whitey, who was now licking his paws cutely, looking very docile. If it wasn’t for his speed, he would have believed that it was a normal kitten. But after seeing the kitten zooming speedily like that in the last three days, Orson could only accept his fate.
Mysterious entities surrounded Calista. Just which breed was this cat?
"Meow!" Whitey, seeing the person in front of him not responding, meowed softly to attract his attention.
Seeing the kitten getting impatient, Orson chuckled lightly and asked, "Whitey, is your mother at home?"
"Meow!" Whitey meowed in response before getting on his four and just like that, it cat walked, sashaying its small body as it moved towards the outside kitchen.
Seeing the kitten going there, he didn’t need to be told or get Whitey’s words translated.
Calista was in the kitchen, and that’s where he needed to go.
Following Whitey, Orson walked towards the kitchen and when he arrived at the plate rack, Calista walked out of the kitchen holding Whitey in her hands and her face bright, smiling.
"You are back!" she stated the obvious with a smile.
Returning the smile to her, he responded as he approached her, "Um and I managed to catch these four!" presenting his bounty to her.
Orson looked at Calista, gauging how she would react, and when he saw that smile widening, he knew that he had made the right choice.
Calista loved eating meat. It didn’t have to be fresh meat; it could be dried but what mattered was that it should be there. She doesn’t like repeating eating the same thing in the week, so she always makes sure that she has a variety.
He had seen the icehouse, and that place was holding a lot of meat for two people, and yet she continued to add more. Was she hoarding for winter?
"Thank you. I love these!" her eyes sparkled as her gaze shifted from the rabbits to him.
Orson was relieved to see that.
"I will skin the rabbits for you!" he volunteered. No matter what, he didn’t feel at ease to leave that job to Calista.
Calista, fortunately, wasn’t someone who loved making life hard for others when it came to chores. As long as he volunteers, she would be so fast at giving him the floor.
After being with her for a while, he knew pretty well how she doesn’t like working and yet at the same time, didn’t seem to hate doing it.
As long as there is an opportunity to not do something, she will take it with both hands. That’s what she was like.
Calista placed Whitey on the ground before accepting the two pheasants from him.
"There is boiling water in the kitchen. Let me bring it out! I guess tonight we can have some fried pheasant!" she said happily as she walked towards the rack where she placed the pheasants.
Seeing her so happy like that, he was at ease. At least he no longer needed to walk on thin ice, afraid of what she might do.
