Chapter 50: Chapter 50: DON’T EVEN THINK OF RUNNING AWAY

"I will leave you to finish. When you are done, come outside. Me and you need to talk!" Calista noticing that if she continues to chat with him, the house might not get cleaned, said to Orson before leaving once again.

Seeing her leaving without causing a fuss, Orson patted his chest. For a moment there, he was scared that she might have caught up to something. Fortunately, that wasn’t the case.

With his wife waiting for him, Orson’s pace increased and after a while, the whole house was sparkling clean.

When he went outside, to the outside kitchen to be precise, from a distance he overheard Calista talking to Whitey again. After living with her, he knew some of her weird habits and the greatest was how she loved talking to the kitten as if it was human.

Unfortunately, the kitten wasn’t human, rendering it useless to have two-way communication. Nevertheless, it was a good method as well which helped a lonely woman to not go crazy. Living alone at times could mess up the mind.

"Mommy is starving. I can’t eat porridge this morning, so we are having lots of meat. I was so generous yesterday and let Susan’s family take all the leftovers. Now I have to cook from scratch."

"But don’t worry, I am cooking pork today and a pot of hot pap. As for lunch, I will think of something simple or maybe eat snacks and prepare a heavy dinner. We can t eat veggies on such special days, can we?"

Hearing the monologue, Orson shook his head helplessly, a doting smile he didn’t even know he had on his face as he entered the kitchen.

Crouching by the fire was Calista, who was busy stirring the pork in the fire. When she saw him, she smiled slightly at him before she closed the pot with the lid.

After checking the pot, Calista wiped her hands with a drying cloth before she walked over to where Orson was now seated on the bench.

"You are done already?" she asked as she stretched her hands towards Whitey, who nimbly jumped into her arms.

Admiring the trust between mother and son, Orson responded with a smile, "Um. I am done. Is there anything I can help with?" asking with sparkling eyes.

Calista chuckled softly, loving how eager her husband was to seek chores to do.

"No, you don’t have to do any chores for now. All I want for you to do now is to sit there as I tell you something. Can you do that for me?" Calista’s gaze was piercing as she looked at Orson, her gaze that of no negotiation.

Being looked at like that, Orson was helpless for a second. If she didn’t want any opposition, why bother asking?

However, his Calista was like that, so there was nothing he could do about it.

"Um, I will listen and always will. So just take your time!" he responded, talking to her in a soothing tone which didn’t seem hurried or lacking care.

Upon getting his response, Calista smiled as she knew that the fish had taken the bait, and now all she had to do was confess, or rather let him become aware of her past.

Why should she feel guilty for things she did not a whim but did out of love? Rather than letting him hear from others about her past, she might as well just let him know personally.

It wasn’t like there was anything that he could do about it.

Orson had an inkling that she was going to talk about the issue that had happened earlier. When he arrived, he was very surprised to hear such accusations against her and for a moment; he thought that the accusations were true.

However, the more he saw how confident she was, he was relieved knowing that she wasn’t that heartless.

From the time they met, she had been ruthless to him only a few times. However, that didn’t mean that she was like that to others.

She didn’t seem to be the kind of person who would harm a child, no matter how bad she was.

Unfortunately, his guesses were off the mark, as what Calista said next left him dumbfounded.

"I don’t want you to hear this from other people in the future, so I might as well let you know beforehand. I might be hosting a banquet anytime soon. I told everyone that I was married, so people would be talking. It’s not a crime to be curious after all."

"Anyway, that’s not the point, the point here is that I was once married five years ago. Me ....."

If he was looking at something, then everything would have been blurred. He didn’t know how he did it, but all he knew was that at some point later, he was looking at a not-so-smiling Calista who was once again issuing more threats as if she didn’t just drop a bomb on him.

"I know I should have told you before, but what changes does it make? I don’t know your past, either. You might be married with a family, as we speak. So don’t be sour. You actually bagged it big. If it wasn’t for me, you would have died back then. So, consider this as your payment fee."

"However, I should let you know that I am serious about this marriage and I will not let anyone, even yourself, dear mess this one for me. My first husband is dead and gone and there is nothing that I can do about it. I am not focusing on the future and my future right now, it’s you."

"I might not have the right affections I should have for a husband, but I want you to know that I really like you, otherwise I wouldn’t have scammed you into marrying me. So never question yourself or my intention towards you. I don’t mean any harm to you, and I hope that you will bear that in mind always."

"Lastly, don’t even think of running away. The very second you remained here and went through that ceremony with me, dear, you became tied to me. I will not force you to do anything anymore. If you still want to live harmoniously and move on with me, then tonight come to the main bedroom. But if you are still sulking because I didn’t tell you this in advance, then you can sleep in the guest room. However, I need to tell you that if you sleep in that room for two days without coming to mine, then be ready to face consequences."

"If you can’t bear to be with me, then there is no point in keeping you here with me. You can leave my house and go wherever you want, but this place is not a place where one can come and go as they please. Don’t say I didn’t warn you!"
