Chapter 45: Chapter 45: AN UNEXPECTED TALE 2
The sudden encouragement took aback the burly man who had not been receiving support at all. However, he didn’t dare rush to respond but sought the woman who spoke to him. Her voice sounded very refreshing, and he had an inkling that she was a beauty.
And when he set his eyes on her, his mind went blank for a second.
Goddess of love, Yara, why was such an angel living in such a backward place? This wasn’t a place that someone like her deserved to stay.
"My lady, you .... Who might you be?" he couldn’t help but ask reverently, afraid of offending this angel as he tidied up his appearance.
The villagers witnessing all that, all became dumbfounded and speechless.
What is going on?
They all couldn’t help but wonder as the drama unfolded.
"I am a passing guess. I couldn’t help but overhear the commotion. Judging from what you were saying, this Calista woman is not a good person. I don’t like sneaky people like that at all!" the woman said with a scrunched expression, showing her total dislike for such people with every single fibre in her body.
Seeing that the woman was on his side, the burly man decided to go all out and probably win the heart of the angel. If he couldn’t have her, maybe become acquainted with her. Everything was still a win for him.
"My lady, you see, all these villagers aren’t playing fair with me. I have spent the last ten years looking for a woman who ran away with my son and assets. I was so fortunate to have come across this woman. At that time, she was just a budding flower, very young, and I saved her from the clutch of bandits."
"I was already merciful when I decided to take her in. After all, a girl defiled by bandits, drowning in the river is already a mercy ending for her. But my love and affection for her was too great. I didn’t care of mind what she had gone through. As long as we become a family, everything was very acceptable to me," the man narrated emotionally.
And seeing the complicated expressions of the villagers surrounding him, he became even more satisfied.
Around that time, the village chief who had been busy going against him before asked with a complicated gaze, "Was she really defiled by the bandits?"
"Of course, she was. When we got married, she wasn’t a maiden at all. However, love is blind, despite all that, I still took care of her. Pampered her with a lot of love and never let her suffer even for a day."
"You must have loved her a lot! Do you have a portrait of her youth?" another villager asked.
"I thought you would never ask!"
"You didn’t mention all these things when we confronted you. If you had narrated from the beginning, we would have listened."
Hearing that, the burly man thought that it made sense, "I guess I was in a hurry to find her."
"Yea, we guess so. So just tell us calmly about her and we will drag her out for you. We can’t keep such a person in our village!"
The burly man seeing that the villagers were getting more on his side, he became so happy that his eyes squinted into slits.
It was working, and it was all thanks to the angel who opened the door for him.
The burly man took out the portrait of the young Calista and the villagers began to show it around.
The more they looked at it, the weirder the whole thing became. However, for the burly man, all he could see was how convinced everyone was becoming.
"What happened next?" the angelic woman asked as she looked at him, urging him to continue.
"Pardon me, my lady," he apologized sheepishly before continuing with a sorrowful expression on his face. "Three months into our marriage, we finally got blessed, and she was pregnant. That was the most beautiful news I have ever heard in my life. I was finally going to become a father; how could I not be emotional?" he asked as his eyes became red and teary.
Anyone who was seeing him could tell and see that the man seemed to be recalling the wonderful moment of over a decade ago, and different expressions appeared on the villagers’ faces once again.
"You must have been happy?" the angelic woman asked her expression that of compassion.
The burly man beamed as a smile blossomed on his face, "I was so happy. You can’t imagine the happiness I felt that day. After getting the news, I took care of her pretty well, until she gave birth. Her birthing process was a bit difficult but luckily, we managed. I still remember the second when the baby cried, and the midwife announced happily that I had a son."
"I celebrated and took out a portion of the money that I had saved to reward the midwife. However, what my wife didn’t know at that time was that before the midwife left, she told me secretly that due to the difficulty of birth and loss of blood during childbirth, my wife’s womb was affected greatly," with a sorrowful gaze, the man narrated.
Upon hearing that, all eyes suddenly shifted from the burly man to the angelic woman who was fanning herself with a black fan, a faint smile on her face.
"So, she could no longer give birth anymore?" ignoring the curious gazes cast on her, the angelic woman asked the burly man.
"Unfortunately, it was like that. However, as a man who loved his wife, I didn’t let that bother me. Why should I divorce her and let her go because of that? I was a faithful husband, so I continue to serve her well."
"You were a good husband!"
"If I say I am number two, no one will dare say he is number one!" the burly man proudly boasted, making the angelic woman smile brightly at the man.
The man seeing that smile, stood frozen for a while before his ears tip went red making those who were watching that lament.
"So, how did she run away with your son when you were so good like this?" someone in the crowd asked curiously, making the other villagers nod their heads in agreement wanting to know as well.
