Chapter 332: EXTRA 6: CALISTA’S BIRTH SECRET

As I looked at the naughty new version of Calista bawling her eyes out and those people calling for help to drag her out of the river, I couldn’t help but recall a certain secret I hid from her until the very end.

I was afraid that if I told her about it. Calista might never be able to take it. In fact, that would be a lie. I was afraid that the good child, or rather, the less evil child I painstakingly raised, would turn evil and all the effort I put in would be wasted.

I knew that she had seen what transpired in that cave and on that day. But what she didn’t know was what happened before and after that very moment.

Thinking about that moment, I couldn’t help but look at Calista, who was babbling nonsense as those villagers gently held her with smiles on their faces.

I knew that they were going to love her and pamper her in ways that she could never imagine. Since she wanted pampering, I was going to give her that. It wasn’t anything difficult. Besides, I wanted to give her something she seemed to be craving in any world: familial love and money.

Having the whole village as her family, wouldn’t that be nice?

Although I couldn’t give her parents and let her feel what it was like being raised by them, something that I wouldn’t do even if she goes on other missions in the future, I will do my best to give her as much love as she can.

Some people’s destinies were written in the stone already and couldn’t be changed. Besides, she was the kind of person who would thrive well without the energy of her parents. Their energy in any lifetime clashes, so it was better this way.

Of course, I will never tell her either about that lest she go crazy and cause damage I would never be able to take care of.

Going back to the matter of her birth secret, what she didn’t know was that before that mother she saw in the forest who left her in the cave to find food went there. She had been on the run for a very long time.

I couldn’t tell Calista that the woman she thought was her mother wasn’t her mother, but a child trafficker. I couldn’t tell her that she was born into a noble family and her biological parents. Although she had never seen them before, she met her siblings a few times.

Calista was born into the royal family but because she was born a girl and her concubine mother needed a boy child, secretly got rid of the child and replaced her with a boy child she stole from the outside.

A maid left the palace with Calista and was supposed to strangle her to death and bury her, but her heart wavered.

Instead of killing the child, she thought of going very far away and raising the child there. After all, she didn’t see herself getting married in this lifetime.

But she didn’t expect to come across a female human trafficker who took advantage of her. The trafficker killed the maid and stole the baby before fleeing. And that human trafficker was none other than the woman Calista thought to be her biological mother.

That human trafficker left the baby in order to get some food, but didn’t think that by the time she returned, the baby would be gone.

By the time she returned, there were wolf prints everywhere, she who feared nothing, went after them and the battle was fierce, but she still survived.

What Calista still thought until now was that if that woman indeed followed the wolves, she might have died. That was probably why she didn’t bother to look for her, even when she knew about how she looked.

That woman fought and conquered, but she couldn’t find the child and that made her restless.

She had sent a message to her client that she found a girl and without one now, how could she answer for the mistake?

So, she went in search of another and in the process, came across a woman who had just given birth, hiding in a cave. Upon seeing that woman, she didn’t bother to kill her, but stole the child and fled away, never to be seen again.

And that child was none other than Lisa, who appeared at Calista’s through my wormholes. That was their connection.

And the woman who got her child stolen was the mistress of Mammy Lena. Their relationships were interwoven and would take patience to understand. Thankfully, none of them truly bothered to understand why all that happened.

If Calista were to know that she was from the royal family, how would her reaction be? If she knew that Lisa was separated from her mother because the trafficker lost her, how would she react?

All those questions caused me a headache; I didn’t dare let her know the truth. It was better to keep it hidden, for only when it was hidden would peace reign.

Besides, Calista had always emphasized how she wanted peace. If she joined the royal family, wouldn’t that be shattered?

So, I never bothered to reveal the truth and just let it rot in my belly, but who knew that Calista would still find herself connecting with her family again?

Thankfully, they only met a few times and didn’t get too close. Otherwise, I would have been forced to take drastic measures again.

I couldn’t help but sigh at how destiny makes people fools but looking at Calista who was now giggling as she was held in the hands of the village priestess with a glamorous ahead of her. I couldn’t help myself but smile sincerely.

I didn’t know how Calista was going to play in her new life, but I was certain about one thing; she was going to live it glamorously.

Confident about the future and the completion of the mission in decades to come, I knew that it was time for me to leave.

My mistress was waiting for me and should be eager to receive her soul food.

Thinking about her, I couldn’t help but wonder about what more schemes she was doing to get enough soul food to free herself.

But whatever schemes they were, as long as she could be free. I wouldn’t mind turning into a devil.

After all, for her, any soul food, regardless of being good or evil, was still food.

And I have prepared a lot for her.

When I thought about that unfortunate Thomas family, I clicked my tongue in annoyance. Such a selfish woman. What kind of rebirth did she expect?

As my mistress’s soul food, she should be grateful and thank the heavens that she met me.

With such a character, where would she be needed?

Thinking about that ruthless old lady, I felt frustrated and decided to leave as soon as possible.

As for when I would be seeing Calista, I guess, that will be a long way to go.

With one last glimpse of her, I stepped into the wormhole.

’Home, here I come!’
