Chapter 296: Chapter 296: HER ORIGINS 3

"That .... Isn’t that my mother?" Calista’s voice trembled as she looked at the woman wearing hemp clothing appearing in view, and didn’t look good.

Calista could tell that the woman had suffered a lot, and her face was so pale. It was a miracle that she was alive.

There was blood on her dress and she didn’t need to be told what the woman had gone through.

Calista felt pity for the mother who brought her out of the cave but couldn’t help but want to stop her from taking her. She still remembers what her mother had said before she left. She was going to look for food and return. So how could she just watch herself getting stolen?

Unfortunately, she didn’t exist and whatever she did couldn’t be seen or heard by others.

So, she helplessly watched with clenched fists as the mother who raised her for a few years before succumbing to death entered the cave. Her eyes were gloomy and she could tell that the woman wanted to end everything. However, her eyes suddenly light up upon seeing the small child.

Seeing that, Calista felt conflicted once again. That kind of joy that warms a person. Was she also such a child?

Her eyes became teary as she watched how her mother’s demeanor changed in just a short moment after finding her. She picked up the small child and embraced her with so much love.

Seeing that, Calista’s hatred for the woman diminished a bit. She saw how conflicted she looked as she probably thought things through.

In her head, she was probably going like, ’I shouldn’t take her. She is not my child,’ while the other was like, ’She has been abandoned. Take her and raise her well.’

In the end, the latter won and the small Calista was taken away from the cave just like that.

Everything just happened in a few minutes. Calista knew that she couldn’t change the past, but seeing it unfolding with her eyes felt unreal.

She wanted to follow them and see what happens along the way, but she couldn’t move. Calista’s heart ached, and she felt suffocated as she saw that. She couldn’t do anything except be stuck in one position like a fool.

As she waited there, tears streaming down her cheeks, feeling helpless, there was rustling of the shrubs and she found herself positioning herself in an attack mode. Unfortunately, that was useless as the guests who arrived couldn’t see her.

Calista felt her back drenching in a cold sweat when she saw what just found the cave. There were three wolves, and they looked ferocious.

If these had found the small child a while ago, she would have ended up in the bellies of the wolves.

Seeing that the danger was avoided and all thanks to the mother who raised her, Calista’s remnant resentment for her disappeared for good.

Although her mother stole her from her biological mother, or rather in this case, picked her up without consent, she still saved her life. After all, seeing how she was all big and with children meant that she survived that ordeal. The wolves didn’t pursue the fake mother and child, thus saving lives.

After the wolves left, Calista was still worried about many things but couldn’t move. Her biological mother finally found her way back, and she came carrying a lot of things. Moreover, that smile on her face made Calista’s heart ache as she thought of how her biological mother would be distraught once she found out that she was gone.

Surely when she entered the cave but failed to see her, Calista saw the basket falling to the ground and the food foraged falling all over the place. There were several big fish, a bottle of milk, and it smelt like goat’s milk. The woman had indeed left to search for food.

Since she was that capable, why didn’t she just bring the child with her than leave her?

Calista found herself being sent onto one roller coaster after another. Her heart bled when she saw the woman howling and shedding tears while blood oozed from her palm. Apparently, she had dug her nails into her palms, thus hurting herself.

Calista wanted to comfort her biological mother and tell her that she was well and doing fine, but there was a barrier. It made everything useless.

The woman cried for a long time before she got back to her senses and started looking for clues, which were in this case several footprints left by wolves. The wolves had stomped on her mother’s trail, so her biological mother failed to see that there were two sets of culprits.

Calista feared for her biological mother’s life after seeing how she looked, determined to follow the wolves and deal with them.

"No! Don’t go!" she wanted to warn her. Unfortunately, nothing could be said. In the end, she watched helplessly on her knees as her biological mother left the cave.

She couldn’t follow her again as she was frozen on the spot.

Blackey’s ability limited the range, and it was taxable on him as well.

After watching the woman leaving, the illusion suddenly vanished and Calista found herself standing in front of the cave with tears streaming down her cheeks.

That wasn’t really an illusion or something that Blackey created to make her happy. But it showed the true events of what transpired to her back then, and the truth was agonizing.

With what she had seen, she was certain of one thing: she wasn’t the child Mammy Lena was looking for. She was someone else’s daughter and her biological mother might have been eaten by wolves.

She was an orphan and would always remain one. That upset her so much, she regretted being greedy and wanting to see that.

If only she hadn’t seen it, then she wouldn’t have the image of her mothers in her head. Now she would be forced to live the rest of her life with that knowledge.

Why did she do it?

Regrettably, it was too late to unsee everything. She could now just live with that for the rest of her life.

But with all the anger and regret deep inside of her, wouldn’t it be nice to find elsewhere to vent that anger?

Calista’s thoughts turned out for the worst and she raised her head, a sinister smile on her face.

It shocked the figure who was watching from a distance to the fullest.

’I need to intervene!’ that’s what he figures thought before leaving as if I was never there.
