Chapter 292: Chapter 292: A STRANGE QUESTION

It was only then that the old lady understood what Calista was doing. She couldn’t help but observe her body closely and the undergarments were all light. She didn’t see any weapons or bottles on her body, and that brought relief to her.

Calista put on her clothes and after doing so, looked at the old lady and asked once again, "Do you want to give me what I want now or should I kill you?" a teasing smile on her face as if she was talking about flowers or tea.

The old lady shuddered as she cursed herself inwardly for being too blind and unable to see that she had brought a wolf into her home. If she had known that the favor, she was doing only helped Calista to break into her home and now threatening her. She would have sent men to kill her first instead of trailing her.

Wait, a minute. If she was here, then did it mean that she knew that she was being trailed all the time?

The old lady suddenly looked at Calista with a fearful expression. It was already a miracle that those people still had their limbs intact. If she didn’t give Calista a satisfactory answer, the old lady was certain that her life might be lost tonight. And she didn’t want that.

"What do you want? I will give it to you as long as I have it!" the old lady gave in and Calista beamed brightly.

"Good. that’s the answer that I was looking for!" she clapped her hands happily like a child before asking, "Tell me, old lady. If you were to find yourself in a situation where you could only watch helplessly the people you care about in pain and yet you can’t do anything. What will you do?" her head tilting to the side, curiosity written all over her face.

That question quite took aback lady Thomas. What kind of question was that?

She didn’t even need to ponder about it for a long time. She was someone who always knew what she wanted. Besides, that curious expression on the face of the girl who pushed aside killing her just to hear the answer, she couldn’t help but want to preach to her.

"I just make sure that I never find myself in such a situation. And if it ever happens, I will find any means to make sure that those people don’t have to feel that kind of pain. As a mother and a matriarch, I must do everything I can to protect the family. That’s what separates me from others.

In fact, I must not even let myself see that kind of situation. After all, wouldn’t that show that I am useless and couldn’t do even a single job?"

"Then why are we in this position? Are you telling me that you haven’t prepared for cases like these before? What if I was here to kill you?" Calista couldn’t help but ask.

The old lady chuckled lightly when she heard that.

"Indeed, there are cases like today, but do I look scared to you? When you have eaten as much salt as I have, you will understand. Besides, I know that you are a good child. I haven’t wronged you, so there is no need for you to kill me," Lady Thomas lightly said as she looked at Calista with a kind smile on her face.

She wasn’t saying it just because she was afraid of Calista, but meant it. If she was that bad, her people would be long dead by now if she had noticed them.

Also, she wouldn’t be wasting time talking to her like that.

Calista smiled widely when she was given a good child card and nodded as if agreeing to that.

"Indeed, I am a good child. I don’t do such evil. Since you have answered me well. Then I will go. Just like you said, we didn’t wrong each other. So, there is no need for me to kill you. Just take this as my way of retaliating after you sent those people to follow me.

I hate being followed and controlled the most. It irks me. So please, Auntie, don’t do it again. If I get angry after experiencing that, who knows what I might do?" with clasped hands, she said with blinking eyes.

She would have looked pretty cute if the words weren’t the ones she said. Nonetheless, Lady Thomas was relieved when she heard that.

’I knew it!’ if it wasn’t for the trailing, then perhaps Calista wouldn’t be here that night.

"I am sorry about that. I will not do it again," the old lady apologized. Calista didn’t know if she meant it or not, but she was happy hearing that.

She should be one of the few who received an apology from Lady Thomas. Since she lowered herself, though reluctantly, she was going to show mercy.

"I forgive you. Have a great night. I still have errands to do tomorrow. Goodbye!" Calista bided the old lady farewell and without giving her time to respond, she left swiftly from the room.

Lady Thomas, seeing that, sighed with relief and hurriedly climbed down from the bed before making her way outside to check where her maids were. However, when she found them, she couldn’t help but freeze on the spot.

The maid was standing by the wall yawning and yet she looked as if she was frozen in time.

Badum. Badum. Badum.

Her heart started thumping loudly while fear overwhelmed her. She didn’t dare touch this maid, afraid that if she did so, something would happen.

Lady Thomas ran around the courtyard and found her people in the same position. She rushed to her eldest son’s courtyard and retched upon seeing her son in a very indecent pose, raising a whip, and the person receiving was all bloody and holding her hands together as if pleading. The cruel smile on her son’s face made her tremble with fear.

She hurriedly left the courtyard and returned to her courtyard. She paced up and down, wondering what had happened and who had caused that.

As she wondered fearfully about that, a voice she didn’t expect to hear again after this long rang in her ears and she shuddered with fear as it all dawned on her; it was her.

"You, did it?" Lady Thomas pointed accusatorily at Calista, who had appeared again.
