Chapter 287: Chapter 287: HER ANGER 2

Calista was so angry. She didn’t think that the old lady’s vigilance was that great. In such a short time, she was suspicious and even sent so many people to spy on her. Wasn’t she afraid of being found out?

’Since you dare offend me, I will teach you a lesson. Just wait and see!’

When was the last time she was spied on like that?

Filled with determination to bring chaos and cause trouble, Calista left the tower while beaming.

"What did she buy?" the courtesan who was busy haggling asked curiously as she looked at Calista, who was leaving.

The server who was used to the courtesan answered without hesitation, "Judging by the package she is holding. She should have been on the VIP floor," revealing the answer that she wanted to know.

The courtesan exclaimed sourly upon hearing that and ruefully said, "I envy her. She can afford those while I have to haggle for a hairpin. I suddenly don’t feel like buying!" and showed a bit of temper.

The server rolled his eyes, already used to the courtesan, and didn’t bother to keep her in the shop at all.

She wasn’t the only one leaving the tower, but other people as well.

Calista scoffed as she sat on the carriage returning to the inn. She couldn’t help but wonder when the old lady had suspicions about her. Was it when she rejected her lucrative offer?

Or she had been testing her from the beginning?

The more she thought about it, the more her temples throbbed.

Fortunately, it didn’t take long before she returned to the inn. She ordered her dinner to be served in the room before she headed upstairs.

A few people who had been keeping an eye on her left the inn and pigeons flew that night.

At the Thomas’s manor, Lady Thomas frowned as she read the strips of papers which had been delivered to her by the maidservant.

’How could there be nothing fishy?’

She didn’t believe so. To think that after leaving the manor, Calista went to the Tulip Tower and only left after buying jewelry. How could that be possible?

Was it so tiring to buy jewelry that a person took time nowadays?

It bothered her. The thought that, of all the places to buy jewelry she picked on Tulip Tower, there must be something there.

So, she instructed her maidservant to have the people keep a closer look. There must be something else happening. Until she gets to the bottom of it, she won’t rest.

At the same time, she planned on inviting Calista to the manor. Keep friends closer but enemies closer.

Without much to work on that night, she went to rest once everything had settled.

As soon as she closed her eyes, in a certain corner of the manor, a figure in black sneaked in and, like a shadow, blended with the night while moving towards the part of the manor where slaves lived.

At that time, in a certain room, an elderly slave was tying the small bundle she had packed a while ago. Her face was dripping with sweat despite not being very hot that night. In fact, it was cool since it’s been raining. However, she was soaked and her body kept on trembling as if she was on drugs.

It was late at night, and by now, everyone should be asleep. For those who were awake, she knew how to avoid them, making it perfect for her to escape.

After seeing that person, she had a bad feeling, especially recalling that sinister smile. She shuddered with fear.

She would rather escape and be chased by authorities than end up in the hands of a ghost. Ghosts were scary. She feared them a lot.

She checked that everything had been settled before picking up her bundle and stashing it in her clothes before moving out with light steps while looking around.

Upon seeing that there was no one outside, she heaved with relief before following the path she had memorized every day for decades.

’Almost there. I will be out of the manor!’ she cheered herself as she looked at that corner of the wall where she planned to sneak out from that night.

However, it wasn’t everything that always goes according to plan.

When she got to that corner of the wall, she checked around and sighed with relief, noticing that there wasn’t anyone who was seeing her. With utmost carefulness, she started prying the bricks from the wall until a hole big enough for her to slip out was formed.

She smiled relievedly and knelt on the ground before groveling to get out. However, when she was halfway, her upper body already facing outside while her lower body was still in the manor, a shadowy figure suddenly fell in front of her, startling her nearly to death.

"Ah~" she screamed panickily as she didn’t expect to find herself in such a precarious situation. However, she found herself in a serious situation that made her shed tears.

She couldn’t hear her voice at all, and it scared the heck out of her. With tears and snot running down her face, she was so scared and understood that running away was impossible. She just wanted to return to the manor, so she crawled back, only to hit something very big and cold.

When she turned her head to look at who she had bumped into, her eyes rolled and she fainted, foam coming out of her mouth.

"Tsk, tsk, tsk. How could she be so cowardly?" the shadowy figure appeared in front of the fainted old slave and crouched to check whether she was still alive or dead.

She thought that the other wouldn’t fall so easily like that. At least, she should have screamed and cried for a while. But to faint and even foam. Now that was new. She was the first.

Feeling the hot breath from her nose, she knew that the other was still alive.

The shadowy figure picked up the fainted woman before looking at what had caused the slave to faint. Looking at the gigantic form on the ground, she clicked her tongue with satisfaction and said, "Blackey, good job!" her tone was very boastful and her eyes sparkling.
