Lady Iris flushed at seeing how Calista was looking at her and shyly responded, "Hehe, how could you say that? Aren’t you fortunate as well?"

Calista shook her head as she let out a dejected sigh and replied, "What’s the point of having money and everything that I have when I have never seen my parents?" she couldn’t help but feel sour at that thought.

Who was her father and why didn’t she hear anything about him when growing up?

Could it be another bastard of the Thomas’s forced her mother, and she ended up conceiving her?

But if that was the case, why did she end up being framed by Lady Iris back then?

Until now, she still didn’t understand why she had to die. She understood that the frame-up was more of the masters to provide a legitimate reason for killing her. The real reason for her death involved Shadow and the reason why he was there at the manor that night.

It was truly unfortunate, that on that night, she only overheard a few things before running away. She didn’t even have any time to share what she had heard before she was dragged out of the shared room, got gagged, tied and then beaten while her crimes were being exposed.

However, thinking about the rumors Nayeli would be spreading in a few days, she suddenly felt better.

Meanwhile, Calista was thinking about such horrors, Lady Iris was filled with sympathy as she looked at Calista. She didn’t expect that the other would be so pitiful like that. She didn’t know what to say.

Thankfully, the carriage arrived at the manor, giving her relief from saying things that could make her friend awkward or upset.

"Madam Solace, we are here!" Lady Iris cheerfully said bringing Calista out of her thoughts.

Calista looked at Lady Iris and smiled faintly as she acknowledged her words.

The two of them alighted from the carriage, and several maids were waiting for them.

Calista picked the hem of the skirt and followed Lady Iris as she looked closely at the manor, she had never really bothered to look at it closely because of her ever-busy schedule.

The gates were huge and looking at those lion statues outside, she only thought of smashing them to nothingness. The same feeling was there when she looked at the gate as well. In fact, she just felt like smashing the whole manor.

The manor wasn’t a place which contained any good memories for her and she hated it with passion.

Meanwhile, Lady Iris not knowing what Calista was thinking, continued to introduce this and that to her with a smiling face and Calista plastered a fake smile on her face as she nodded along.

Calista couldn’t help but notice that the Thomas hadn’t stopped buying and employing slaves to work for them. There were so many of them, running there and there all wearing the familiar colors which she couldn’t help but like and hate at the same time.

The slaves in this family wore two colors; brown and grey despite being men or women. To think that once upon a time, she was once a person who only wore these two dull colors and looked the same as the rest of the slaves that she didn’t even have a name, Calista felt like a joke.

Thankfully, they killed her and gave her a chance to live like a human being. But that won’t stop her from dealing with them now that their paths have crossed. If they want someone to blame, then find Orson and deal with him.

Waiting for Lady Iris was Lady Thomas whose hair was white showing how much she had aged. She sat in the welcoming hall with snacks and tea already served.

She was with her daughters-in-law who were eager to see their sister-in-law as well as the new friend that they had heard being talked about.

The maids were standing orderly and ready to save at any time.

As they were sitting there, an old mammy walked into the room with her head lowered and greeted the ladies in the room before mentioning why she was in the room.

"Madam, Lady Iris and her friend have just arrived!"

When Lady Thomas heard that, a smile appeared on her face and those wrinkles deepened.

The daughters-in-law felt sour seeing that. They all knew how much their sister-in-law was loved and pampered despite being married for years.

Her place in the madam’s place was very solid and stable. Their children couldn’t even compare. How could they not feel sour?

"Escort them in. It’s a bit hot. Don’t let them get sunburnt!" the old lady urged the mammy who bowed before leaving the room.

After the mammy left, the old lady looked at the daughters-in-law and suddenly spoke in a warning tone, "If you dare play any games today. I will make sure that you copy the family rules one hundred times. Since you are here, then behave and don’t mess things up for me!"

The daughters-in-law could only respond in agreement. It wasn’t like they were so bold to go against their mother-in-law.

The old lady seeing the daughters-in-law getting in line, a mocking glint flashed across her eyes before she smiled with satisfaction.

Having people, she couldn’t control wasn’t something that she was used to. If she couldn’t tame it, then either not take it or deal with it.

It was either her way or the highway.

Moments later, a cheerful voice rang inside the hall and everyone knew that the favorite lady was in the house.

"Mother, have you missed me?"

When the old lady heard that, a smile blossomed on her face as she looked at her only daughter who was entering the house looking as dignified as she could be.

Her daughter was her greatest creation and molded in her image. Her sons were very good of course, and had carved their paths and were faring well in court. However, her daughter, who looked like her and followed in her steps from a young age, still remained her favorite.

So, what if a girl can’t be invested in? She invested in her and now she was reaping the bountiful harvest. How could she not like her?
