Chapter 275: Chapter 275: ENEMIES MEETING ON A NARROW PATH
Calista looked at the person calling out to her and after recognizing her, she suddenly smiled lightly, making her face shine.
When the other party saw her, she couldn’t help but blush and said, "I am sorry for making you wait, but if you don’t mind, can you join our table?" volunteering to provide a seat for her.
When Calista heard that, she raised her brows puzzlingly as if wondering why the other party was being generous and the other party seemed to have noticed.
"You don’t have to think much about it. I just want to make friends. I hope that you don’t mind," the other woman said hurriedly, explaining herself.
When Calista heard that, a smile blossomed on her face as she squinted.
’Knock and the doors shall open! Is that what they meant? But I didn’t even knock, but either way, this looks good. Will save me the trouble of finding them myself!’ she thought amusingly to herself as she nodded to the other party.
When the woman saw that Calista had agreed, she sighed with relief before looking at her female friends she was sitting with.
"Thank you for the invite. I truly appreciate it!" Calista sincerely said as she started walking towards the woman’s table as she observed the women at the table.
The woman waved her hand nonchalantly and shyly responded, "It’s fine. Sharing isn’t that bad!"
"Indeed, it isn’t!" Calista smiled at the other as she neared the table.
Calista looked at the three women who were obviously rich young madams. If she wasn’t mistaken, they were in their late twenties or early thirties. She judged that according to what she knew about the woman who called her.
As someone she had seen for years, how could she not know how old the other party was?
Calista sat down on the empty chair and joined the group of women who were quite eager to invite her.
Once she was seated, Calista didn’t forget her manners. She looked at the three and introduced herself. "Thank you for inviting me. You can call me Madam Solace," not willing to reveal her name at all.
When the other three heard her directly adding the madam title in her name, they knew instantly that she was married. Only married women called themselves madams. But wasn’t she too young to be married?
That was some thoughts of others who had no idea that the person they were talking to was already twenty-eight years old.
"It’s nice meeting you, madam Solace. You can call me Lady Iris!" the woman that Calista was interested in introduced herself first.
’Oh! It seems that she got married and changed her last name!’ Calista concluded upon hearing a different last name being said.
The other two women introduced themselves and they got acquainted with each other well. Shortly after that, Calista who hadn’t ordered her food, found herself joining the ladies who had ordered quite a lot of food.
Since there was no reason to fear being poisoned, Calista accepted the generosity and started eating the dishes. They were still hot, so they were very good.
During the meal, lady Iris was more of a conversation starter and was very curious about where Calista came from and what she was doing in the city.
Calista, who was eager to know more about Lady Iris’s family, didn’t mind answering questions. Besides, even if she lied, it wasn’t like she would know what was what.
"I am passing by but currently waiting for relatives in this city. Once they arrive, I will join them to return home."
"Oh! You actually traveled by yourself?"
Calista chuckled shyly upon hearing that and answered, "Sometimes women need some space, you know? I can’t always be restrained. I decided to give myself a few weeks off and enjoy myself. It’s tough being a wife and a mother simultaneously."
Lady Iris and her friends who had never thought of something that serious found Calista’s thoughts very interesting and shocking at the same time.
The best that they could do was visit establishments like the restaurant and eat to their fill. At times, they would visit the opera houses and listen to music or watch some plays.
When things get serious, they host banquets or flower appreciation events. That way they would gather together as women and share gossip.
It was the first time that they heard that a woman actually needed time off from her husband and children.
"You ..... how do you do that? Doesn’t your husband or his family say anything?" Lady Iris asked curiously, though her voice was lowered.
What if people overhear her asking such a question?
Calista smiled mysteriously as she looked at the ladies and answered, "When a woman knows her worth, then anything is possible. Before you are a wife, a daughter-in-law, or a mother, do you still remember who you are?"
When the three heard that, they all became silent, pondering over that matter earnestly. They weren’t the only ones as the people sitting at the nearby tables were eavesdropping and Calista, whose skin was very thick, didn’t mind having people point their fingers at her.
It wasn’t like she lived for them. Besides, after dealing with the matter she came for, they would never see her again. So, why bother?
"This .... Madam Solace, you must not say something like this in public. They say a married woman is spilt milk. You listen to your husband’s family and be a virtuous wife!"
When Calista heard that she couldn’t help but burst into a hearty chuckle and retorted, "I am not trying to say that you shouldn’t do it like that, but please think for yourself. Aren’t you a human being as well? If that family tells you to go and kill yourself, would you do it?
Anyway, this is my own opinion. I am myself, a human being who has a life and deserves to be happy. I didn’t get married or have kids to be pressured or stressed. Although it’s not common, everyone wishes to marry a person that they love. Even if they don’t love each other, at least live together harmoniously until they grow old.
I just don’t want to forget that I exist and solely live my life for others. Besides, it’s not like I am running away. After the vacation, I will still go back home. So, no worries there!" Calista elaborated on her reasoning.
She didn’t care whether these people would accept what she was saying. She just didn’t like being forced to accept what she didn’t like.
Of course, her words didn’t sit well with some of the people who were eavesdropping, especially men. Which man would let his wife go rampant like that? If such things happen repeatedly, then who would be wearing the plants?
Would it be her or him?
However, they still agreed on the other point she stated. Although there isn’t love, living harmoniously is better. Who wanted to live in a house full of drama?
No one.
