Chapter 269: THE BURIAL GROUND

Chapter 269: Chapter 269: THE BURIAL GROUND

On Calista’s side, since she wasn’t sleepy, she didn’t sleep, to be honest. Somewhere in the wee hours of the morning, she breastfed the babies for the last time and put them to sleep.

Once that was done, she took a shower and changed into a black outfit. There was food prepared for her in the kitchen, but she didn’t eat it but stored it in her storage ring.

After doing so, she bade the mammies farewell and Whitey before leaving the manor and heading into the forest close by.

She was going to use the stone that the sorceress gave Shadow. After witnessing the kind of damage that stone was capable of, she didn’t dare wear her fancy clothes. She also didn’t dare open any portal in her house. What if that portal damages the house she spent so much on?

The forest became the safer bet.

Once she was in the forest and Blackey had confirmed that there was no one in the vicinity, she took out the mysterious stone from her storage ring.

She held it in her hand and closed her eyes as she thought to herself what she wanted. From what she had heard so far, the stone opened a portal to the place where she could get what she wanted.

What she wanted right now was something very simple: find her burial ground. It’s been ages since she saw that place.

When she was reborn, she came back with the same face, and the same age just like when she died. As for what happened to the bones of her previous body, she didn’t know. They were still buried in that place unless they were taken out.

She had never returned there as that would fuel her hatred and lead her on the path of vengeance which she didn’t want back then.

However, now, without visiting there just once, how could she fuel her anger?

Besides, only by going there could she recall things clearly about what truly transpired that night. Maybe she might find out some missing details.

Of course, she planned to find the other slaves of that household, especially those that she knew. She wasn’t planning on shedding some blood, but interest would be taken. She died because of someone and if that someone is still alive; she was going to make that person pay.

No one messes with her like this and continues to live peacefully.

Another reason for choosing the burial ground was because of the unexpected appearance of herself. She didn’t know if she would be badly injured like everyone who had used the portal. So, appearing in a forest might reduce the risks of attracting too much attention.

If she got hurt, she would just heal herself with the medicine and appear in the city once she was okay. It was as simple as that.

With that well thought out, she thought of what she wanted and something magical happened.

Unlike the expected portal she had seen, and those who had used the stone had seen it before, it didn’t happen like that.

Rather, a strange ball of light appeared on top of her head and quickly enveloped her. Before Blackey could make any move, the light had completely enveloped them and with a poof; they were gone. The place that Calista was standing, didn’t look as if anything had happened at all.

When Calista opened her eyes to check for the portal, she stood there frozen, dumbfounded by the strange scene she was seeing.

"Darling, what the heck just happened?" she asked as she looked around, confusingly.

Blacky hissed inside her sleeves as he flicked his tongue.

"Hiss. Hiss. Hiss."

And when she heard what he was saying, her eyes narrowed as she became tense and wary of her surroundings.

After observing and seeing that everything was fine, she finally let go of her wariness and started cursing.

"Damn that vixen! Is she playing with everyone like a toy?"

When she thought about how other people suffered because of this kind of stone and yet when it came to her, she was just transported without warning. She wished for a one-on-one confrontation.

If the sorceress was here, she would have told her that she was innocent. Unfortunately, the other was currently out of the realm and busy with another mission target somewhere else while she waited for the drama to unfold on Calista’s side.

Seeing that she was in the burial ground, she started looking around as she asked Blackey, "Can you sense where I am buried?"

There were simply too many bones buried in the ground. She just didn’t understand who was who.

Blackey slithered away from her wrist and landed on the ground. After that, she watched as Blackey slithered several metres from where she was standing before stopping.

"Hiss. Hiss. Hiss."

Calista’s expression darkened as she looked at the place where Blackey was.

"Dig the place out and take them. I shall bring them home," she sullenly ordered as she clenched her fists, the memories she had dearly wished all these years to keep locked away flashing in her mind.

Blackey didn’t linger longer as after the order was given, started performing.

Calista watched coldly as the soil was unearthed. After a short dig, a weary skeleton, or rather scattered bones, came to the surface. With how short the grave was, she was surprised how these bones were never washed away in the first place.

She counted the bones one by one as they were taken out of that grave. From the biology knowledge she acquired in one of the worlds she transmigrated to, a human skeleton has between 206 and 213 bones in adulthood.

She could be considered an adult around the age she was killed. She at least expected to see many bones, but that dream didn’t seem anywhere close to being fulfilled.

She only found around one hundred something and some of the skull bones were missing as well.

Looking at the skeleton which used to belong to the former her, Calista’s emotions were in turmoil.

The more she looked at them, the more the memories which seemed to have been foggy surfaced. And the more she saw what truly transpired on that night, the colder she became.

Calista’s eyes narrowed murderously as she flicked her fingers and a ball of fire emerged at the tips of her fingers.

With a single wave, the fire flew to the bones.

She coldly watched as the bones got incinerated until they were a small heap of ashes. She gathered the ashes and stored them in a bottle she had prepared beforehand.

Once that was done, she stored the bottle in her storage ring.

She beckoned Blackey back to her wrist, and without covering the grave, Blackey came to her.

She didn’t know if Shadow would find this place or not, but it would be quite interesting if he did.

Let them see the empty grave and let them panic.

As for her, she was going to settle down first.

She had some people to monitor and interrogate once she had enough information.
