If it was really that person, then she might not have been sent by his Master’s enemies, which might prove why she had never made a move all this time since she knew him.

If she knew that he was under his master’s orders, he doubted if his master would be there. She wouldn’t have saved his daughters as well, lest giving birth to his children.

In other words, his appearance exposed his master, and now he was in a tricky situation.

From what he had just heard from her, she was a vindictive person. She was going to come at him or even at all of them. Her taunting him should have been a method for her to find out the missing puzzles, and now she might have found them.

What was he supposed to do now that he knew that she couldn’t be left alive?

Unfortunately, before he could even think further, his master arrived.

"What was she talking to you about?" he asked, his tone filled with worry and concern.

And when Shadow heard that, he knew that it would be useless to reveal what he knew to her. Although his master was trying to hide it, his affection for this woman was on another level. And since his thoughts were more inclined to getting rid of her, he would rather not share such news with him.

So, he lied with a straight face, "She was just telling me to protect you on the road lest accidents happen."

Orson chuckled faintly upon hearing that. Was she messing with them?

Could it be that she was planning to do something on the road?

He just couldn’t get it.

"Let’s go, the sooner we leave the sooner we can prepare and investigate," he ended up saying though as he walked away.

Rather than stressing himself about what he didn’t know, he might as well be ahead and take measures.

Shadow didn’t argue with that, as leaving early would surely help. When he finds time on the road, he would find time to deal with the woman, so that she won’t cause unrest to them in the future.

The two returned to the campsite where everyone had gathered, and all carriages were ready to go.

Emma and Gemma were seated in the carriage already, looking very sullen.

When Orson joined them, the girls looked hatefully at him, and he felt guilty.

Because of what he feared, he didn’t let the girls say their farewell to Calista. Although he knew that Calista wasn’t the kind of person to attack children despite her hatred towards him because of his departure the first time, she still treated his girls wholeheartedly.

Even though he might not return to her after leaving and the possibility of them having crossroads in a bad way previously, she still gave him the last medicine to treat his relatives.

All that showed that she wasn’t as bad as Shadow made her seem to be but when he recalled how merciless she was the time when some wild man came to accuse her of slanderous crimes and how she dealt with Vaani, he couldn’t help but wonder what if?

She was someone with children now. What if she wants to hurt him badly and decides to attack the kids?

He couldn’t risk it, so he forbade the girls from going to the manor, and now they were sulking.

They wouldn’t be able to understand now but, in the future, they might.

So, he didn’t bother to explain himself but gave the signal for departure. With that signal given, the carriages started moving.

Sitting in one of the carriages was Vaani. She wore a sly smile on her face as she looked through the carriage window.

Seeing the campsite getting far the more the carriage moved, the more her smile widened.

She didn’t know what happened between Pierce and Calista, but she knew that it wasn’t good.

As long as it wasn’t, then she was happy.

As much as she feared Calista for the power that she possessed, she hated her too much as well. Because of Calista, nightmares still haunted her. She continued to see that white beast lunging at her and tearing her apart.

The feeling of having her face scratched and ripped by those claws was still fresh in her mind. It made her have insomnia. And when she thought of how Pierce stood there watching without doing anything as she got assaulted and humiliated by the beast, she hated him even worse.

To think that the man she loved with all her heart didn’t mind getting humiliated and having her name spoken ill of on the island was ruthless, even to the woman he loved. How could she have fallen for such a man?

He was very prideful, and his ego knew no bounds. When you love someone, why bother to be suspicious and be unclear?

She didn’t regret what she did. At least she was honest with her words. Maybe that’s what made Calista leave her back. Because after that altercation, she had never bothered with her again.

As long as she wanted to make things difficult for her, she would have done so, but she didn’t. However, that didn’t make her a good person again. She was too promiscuous and flirted with every man she saw. If she was serious about Pierce, she shouldn’t have done so.

Both of them weren’t any good and when she thought of that woman’s son holding an important position in the family, she loathed it worse.

Since Pierce didn’t know what he wanted or acted like it, she took advantage of it. Even if they reconciled in the future, there would be cracks, very large cracks that would take ages to repair.

The little trust they had in each other should be gone by now. Even if she suffered retribution for what she did, she still won’t regret it.

Only a self-centered like Pierce wouldn’t see his threat towards the chief, especially after getting another wife.

He was simply too strong and if he couldn’t be controlled, people like him were better off dead as well.

In other words, Pierce should thank her. She helped him avoid such danger.

Without Calista by his side, he wouldn’t be such a huge threat and the family would be harmonious without any internal strife.

The combination of Pierce and Calista would overpower the current chief.

He might be ignorant, but she wasn’t.

Didn’t he see that there were chief’s people even among this group?
