A Love Reborn: Finding Romance Twice In One Lifetime -
Chapter 258: HER GRIEVANCE 2
Chapter 258: Chapter 258: HER GRIEVANCE 2
This was the first time that Hayes had heard this from Calista. He knew of what happened back then, but to hear the story on such an emotional level; he didn’t know how to respond.
On the other side, Jeremy’s eyes narrowed as he looked at Orson with disapproval. The level of shamelessness and heartlessness was simply too high.
Orson, on the other hand, was feeling as if someone was tearing him in pieces. Hearing the agony and hurt in her voice, his heart hurt so badly.
"I have sacrificed so much, and what I have given him isn’t something that anyone could give. I asked for payment and yet I was looked at as if I was a villain. He is a godly doctor, who receives so much in payment for his services. So why shouldn’t I get mine?
People would kill and commit atrocious crimes to get their hands on the medicine I own and yet I gave it to him and treated his daughters. And yet he can’t even do one simple thing for me. I don’t ask for much but for his attention.
Why can’t he love us all the same? At my age and with what I have, should I fight and compete for favor with someone who is long gone?
He isn’t the only person who lost someone he loves. I too was once married to a man I loved so much. I endured all the abuse and persecution from people. He died, I mourned for him and did my duty. I met him, fell for him, and married him. Even if the whole thing was just a sham when it started, didn’t he scam me too?
We are adults; we let this slide. I simply asked him to treat the twins with some love. They are his kids, too. Why can’t he do the same?
Should my children grow up suffering and seeking their father’s attention as if he is the king with a harem of three thousand beauties?
On top of that, I need to compete with the children’s dead mother. Hayes, tell me, do you think that what I did was excessive?" Calista was emotional at this stage, her voice shaky as if she could cry at any moment.
Hayes was unable to respond, as he was feeling complicated and furious at the whole thing, knew what was important. He held her hands in his, as he comforted her, but didn’t say a word. She needed to let everything out first before he could add anything.
"I don’t know where he lives, but it’s obviously not on this continent. How can I be with a man I can see probably once every year? What will be the use of us being together? I don’t want to leave this home I had built for myself to follow a man who isn’t sure about what he wants from me or how he feels.
I don’t want to follow a man just because he is the father of my children. I won’t do such a thing. Just because we have children doesn’t mean that I must be tied or shackled to him for the rest of my life.
In this life, I only seek genuine love, friendship, and companionship. Even if I live in a cave, a treehouse or a mud house. As long as I am happy and we are all happy, I will be fine with everything," Calista added with a wry smile on her face, feeling like a joke.
"If I leave with him today, and all the medicine is gone and my usefulness is gone, do you think that he will continue to look at me the same? After all, when he first came here, it wasn’t for me but for the medicine. With everyone he loves so much more than me being well, would I still have a use?
If I didn’t have Blackey and Whitey, what would happen to me? Honestly, I don’t feel safe at all with him. I feel as if my life will always be hanging by the thread. The feeling of walking on thin ice just because of a so-called family, Hayes. I don’t want to live such a life.
I would rather not have it than suffer in the end," she shook her head, her eyes teary.
Others might not know, but her body was taking a bit long to revitalize itself. She wasn’t as strong as she used to be. Her spiritual pets were still recovering and were currently in a slumber. If anyone was to attack her right now, she might lose miserably.
"If he could abandon me once, what will stop him from doing so again?" her question was like a whisper, but in Orson’s ears, it sounded louder and clearer.
Listening to the matter without confronting the other person, Orson felt like he was understanding the matter as a whole. The two of them lacked communication a lot, and as a result, misunderstanding always results whenever they try to talk deeply.
Jeremy looked at Orson, who was lost in his thoughts and patted his shoulder, saying, "Orson, I don’t know what’s happening between you two, but I do get where she is coming from. If you love her and really want to be with her, then think hard about what she wants. Her words might sound selfish, but who isn’t? With time, just think to yourself how you would feel if she got into another man’s arms. If another man calls her intimately and she does the same? How would you feel if your children, the ones she risked her life to bring into this world, call a strange man, father?"
After saying his piece, he left Orson, not caring about how he would respond.
On Calista’s side, Hayes was still at a loss for words. He knew that she didn’t have an answer, but someone who could listen to her grievance. As a qualified brother, he pulled her in his arms, startling those who were watching. Among them, Orson clenched his fists, his veins popping as he watched this scene with reddened eyes.
The feeling of watching her doing that was heart-wrenching. How could he manage to imagine other things when he couldn’t even stand her with Hayes?
