Chapter 256: Chapter 256: UNTITLED

The next day, Calista woke up early with a smile on her face.

It was another beautiful day, one where she got rewarded with a gold coin. Giving birth to children was truly a blessing.

Her monetary rewards now ranged from silver to gold. She wasn’t getting anything below a silver coin. Even the deities understood how expensive it was to raise a child, let alone two. She could only be grateful.

Calista climbed down from the bed and walked lightly towards her sleeping twins. She looked at them as they slept soundly on their tummies, looking so cute she wanted to drown them in her smooches. However, when she thought of how hard it would be to coax them to sleep, she decided against it.

In the end, she tidied up her bed and put on some warm clothes to bundle herself up. Ever since giving birth to the twins, her spiritual energy wasn’t as abundant as it was before. So, taking care of herself was a must.

She checked again that the twins wouldn’t be waking up anytime soon before she left the bedroom, heading to the other side of the house.

It was the day that her guests were leaving except for Orson, who still owed her.

From the way things ended yesterday, she could see his answer already.

Was she sad?

She was, actually.

Did she go overboard with her demands?

She did. That was a fact, but she couldn’t help herself.

She had always been second, always a second choice in her marriages. So why couldn’t she be selfish for once?

It wasn’t like without him, it would be the end of the world.

Since he wasn’t willing to offer himself wholly to her, then he might as well just not try to do anything. She didn’t want to be an evil stepmother or a woman filled with resentment. She knew herself pretty much.

Whenever she looks at Gemma and Emma, and then thinks about how Orson teats her and the twins, she is reminded of his dead wife.

She didn’t know what kind of woman she was, but the fact that because of her, who had been dead a very long time, she couldn’t get the attention of the man she loved. Those kids wouldn’t fare well with her.

She loves kids, and she didn’t want to be forced to become someone she wasn’t simply because of a man.

If she can’t have him now, then she might as well just focus on raising her twins. Life isn’t all about men, anyway.

So, her mood was much better after thinking that out.

Besides, the future was still long. Who knows if he might change his mind because she doubted if she would change hers?

The serenity of the village was much to her liking than the bursting cities. That’s why when she picked her surname, she chose Solace. In this second life of hers, she wanted peace.

And if the surrounding people couldn’t give her that, she would seek it elsewhere.

Around the same time, outside the manor, there were several carriages lined up with servants moving up and down, loading things on the carriages.

On the other side, the masters and mistresses were arranging the last details, getting ready for their departure as well.

"There you are!" Calista called out as she approached the group of ladies who were huddled together talking about something, probably.

Upon seeing her, the ladies’ eyes shone, since they weren’t expecting to see her coming out so early to send them off.

However, just because they were happy didn’t mean that they were okay seeing her out of her room at a time like this, and that was more so for Madam Fischer.

"Darling, what are you doing out of your room this early?" she asked sternly, though worry was laced in her tone.

Calista wanted to roll her eyes at the old lady for being a wary wart. However, she held herself back and smiled faintly at the other, responding, "Godmother, I am here to send you off. You can’t expect me to lie indoors without at least knowing that you ...." She didn’t finish as she saw the glare Madam Fischer was looking at her with and hurriedly changed her words, "Once you board the carriages, I will obediently return inside."

Madam Fischer’s gaze withdrew once she heard that, and Calista sighed with relief.

This lady was truly from a military family. She was fierce when she felt like it.

Seeing Calista getting defeated so early in the morning, the others laughed at Calista, feeling avenged for all the unfairness they experienced because of her.

Calista harrumphed at these friends, making the moment even much funnier.

With everyone gathered, it didn’t take long before all that should be loaded was loaded.

Calista didn’t linger around the ladies much but found herself with Hayes, who she was reluctant to part with. When she was heavily pregnant, he had become a great pillar of support. He was truly there for her and watching him leave made her heart ache.

Madam Fischer watched as the two god siblings whispered to each other. She had no idea what they were talking about, but she could tell that they were both reluctant.

Leeshay spotted Madam Fischer watching the two and couldn’t help but ask, "Are you feeling nostalgic already?"

Madam Fischer sighed as she shook her head, saying, "Not really. I am just amazed at how two people of the opposite sex can be this close!" it was still a wonder.

If she hadn’t checked how these two felt for each other before, she would have thought that they were having some secret affair.

Leeshay smiled as she listened to that. She couldn’t help but think to herself, ’They would have made a good match. They click and know each other well. Unfortunately, they don’t have that kind of destiny.’

She could only grimace, but that was life.

Some people were fated, and some weren’t.

Just like how they didn’t like Orson that much. After all, they could tell that despite what his actions are, that bond with Calista seems to be lacking.

When he left abruptly yesterday, he didn’t look well. He might have gotten into an argument with Calista. Seeing how bad it was, it would be a miracle if they patch things up.

At the same time, when she thought of how Calista vowed that she wouldn’t take him back, they all found her with him shortly after he returned.

Maybe Orson and Calista were a fated pair and were going through all this because that was their destiny.

After all, With Calista’s qualifications, she could get any man she wanted and yet she kept going in circles with Orson.
