Chapter 233: ANOTHER BANQUET 7

Chapter 233: Chapter 233: ANOTHER BANQUET 7

The food was served at the table, and as the host, without giving a prayer of thanks or a small speech, how could they all enjoy the delicacy?

Without further ado, remembering that the Henrich couple still needed to travel back to their home in time, she raised a cup of orange juice for a cheer.

The others picked up their cups as well and raised them like her.

Seeing everyone adapting quickly, she smiled at them and started giving a speech. "I want to say thank you for coming on such short notice, especially Sir and Lady Henrich. Your presence here is truly appreciable!" she said and raised her cup at the couple.

The couple cheered to her in return with smiles on their faces and she continued, "Today, we are all gathered here to celebrate a special occasion," looking toward Madam Fischer and her sons. "I have acknowledged Hayes as my godbrother and now I am graced with my godmother and another godbrother. To welcome them, I hosted this mini banquet. Hoping that all of you will celebrate with me in welcoming the Fischer family to be as one with me."

Calista was sincere in acknowledging the Fischer family. To her, it wasn’t about their connections, money, or fame. She just wanted the family as a whole. The people in it. As for money, wasn’t hers already enough?

At first, she didn’t want to have such a relationship with the family. After all, people always talk and she didn’t like it when people say things about her and expect her to remain silent like a mummy.

But when she thought of Lisa and Mammy Lena, she couldn’t help herself. She also thirsted for a family. The only family she grew up knowing were those slaves who didn’t treat her like family.

She never saw her mother and didn’t even know who her father was. What the elderly slave told her when she was growing up was all that she knew. Didn’t that feel like not having a family at all?

After all, it was the same family which administered the flogging and beat her to death. What kind of family was that?

Rather than having such a family, she would rather find one for herself, and it seems that the Fischers were quite willing to add her name to theirs. So why not?

By becoming relatives, her child would have more people to rely on in the future. Though she was certain that she might bury her own children and grandchildren if she wanted.

She cheered for the madam and her sons and passionately talked about becoming a family. The guests present felt quite teary as they listened to her. They couldn’t help but feel touched by her sincerity.

"I don’t know what the future has in store for me, but for now, I will celebrate what I have and hope that we will remain strong together. If anything, ever happens, let’s talk it out and avoid misunderstandings!" after speaking for so long, Calista finally ended her speech.

Clap. Clap. Clap.

As soon as she was done, she received applause, and she shyly looked at the culprit, who started clapping.

Seeing her flushing red like that, everyone burst into laughter, finding her cute.

"To family!" Madam Fischer cheered in an attempt to shift the attention from Calista, and it worked.

Everyone once again raised their cups and cheered with one another.

Madam Fischer, before taking a sip of the fruit wine and not the juice that Calista was having, spoke for a moment.

"A few weeks ago, I had no idea that I would be welcoming a daughter into the family. Life just happens in unexpected ways and I am really glad and grateful that we are having such a moment," she said with a smile while looking at Calista and Hayes. "it was fate which brought us together and just as you said earlier, let us celebrate what we have and what we are now. As for the future, we will deal with it as it comes. I am glad that you have joined our family. Once you have given birth, we shall host a grand ceremony and welcome you into our family."

Madam Fischer had thought about it hard. The more she knew about Calista, the more she wanted to tie the other to her side.

There was so much that Calista was hiding. Not that she was greedy for the secrets. But she simply felt like befriending her wouldn’t be such a bad thing. In fact, in this whole scenario, it would end up with her family earning more benefits than her.

When facing such a deal, who was she to refuse?

Besides, as a woman who bothered three sons and no daughters, how could she reject such an almighty daughter who was bringing a grandchild in tow?

The deal was too lucrative for her to refuse.

She was thrilled to be a godmother.

At least this goddaughter wasn’t befriending her family to suck them dry.

Girls like Calista were rare.

After Madam Fischer gave her speech, Hayes didn’t want to be left out and poured his heart as well.

Listening to everyone contributing and adding flavorful bits to the story, there wasn’t any dull moment during the banquet.

The food was there in abundance; the people were in a jovial mood. They couldn’t stop talking.

It was a banquet filled with laughter, harmony, and love.

It was a successful mini-banquet.

Even when the Henrich couple were leaving sometime later, they were a bit reluctant however, they were parents and had responsibilities. Even if they didn’t feel like going, they didn’t have any choice but to reluctantly go.

As they left, Lady Henrich looked at Madam Fischer with a complicated gaze, recalling the outright confrontation they had earlier disguised as ladies just chatting about society.

She was indeed the fool.

Thankfully, she returned to the right side in time, otherwise who knew what could have happened?

That was quite a close call!
