Chapter 223: Chapter 223: FISCHER FAMILY ARRIVES

On the road and sitting in the carriage, a mature woman donning a black dress and silver hair ornaments was peeping through the carriage window, doubt in her eyes as she looked at the row of buildings coming into view

"Mother, do you see something?" a male voice sounded, bringing the woman’s attention back to the carriage.

She closed the window before looking at the son who was sitting with her in the carriage accompanying her.

"Um, there are buildings there. They should be the ones Hayes wrote about."

Upon hearing that, the young man’s brows arched, surprise showing on his face.

"So, he wasn’t lying?"

The woman snickered at the thought of her youngest lying. "If he lies, won’t he get his legs broken?"

The brother’s lips twitched at hearing that from the mother. ’Mother was still the vicious one!’

"Indeed, he won’t dare."

The woman smiled affectionately, as if she wasn’t the one speaking viciously a moment ago and said, "I just wonder if that woman is truly the one who saved three back then!"

"Mother, you know that three have always been a clever person. There is no way that he would recognize the wrong person."

The woman wryly smiled as she said, "I hope so. I guess we have to observe her closely when we meet. At least with what we have brought, we can cancel the debt between us. If she is a bad person, then let us forget that there is someone like that and move on."

Coming from a prominent family, she understood how other people might use that to their advantage. With how desperate her youngest son had been to find the young woman who saved him years back if someone took advantage of that, then her son and the family would suffer big time.

When she received the letter about how he found his savior, how she was pregnant and needed a lot of personnel, the first thing that came to mind was how this woman had used her son and demanded so much from him.

However, when she talked to the messenger and learnt of the events, she was baffled.

To think that her son suffered so much before getting recognized, this woman wasn’t simple. It was as if her son was the one begging the other to stay and not the other way round.

She was curious about the kind of woman who wasn’t interested in her son.

Her interest was further piqued when she learnt that her son decided to take the other as a god sister. Just what happened in such a short time for the relationship to go that way?

At least, he didn’t send a message saying how he wanted to marry a woman who was pregnant with another man’s child. She would have broken his legs and taught him a lesson.

A person can be playful, but not to the extent of tarnishing the family’s name.

Lost in thoughts, the woman was jolted back to reality when the maids outside called excitedly.

"Madam, we can see the young master!"

When the woman heard that, her eyes lit up, happiness coursing through her body as she hurriedly opened the window to check for herself.

Surely, she didn’t need to look any further as she spotted her willful son being so gentle to a heavily pregnant young woman crossing the road.

Was that really her son?

She looks dumbfoundedly at the scene unfolding in her eyes.

The son, seeing his mother not saying a word, couldn’t help but ask, "Mother, is something wrong?"

The woman closed the window and looked at her son with a conflicted expression on her face.

The son didn’t know what to say at this point. He didn’t know what his mother saw for her to be like that, but it seemed to be related to his younger brother. Could it be that he was being naughty again, despite knowing that they were arriving?

However, when his mother asked, "Son, do you think that there is a possibility of anyone getting possessed in this world?" his worry further increased.

There was indeed something wrong with his brother. He needed to see what was happening.

"Mother, you ... that’s superstition. How is that possible?"

The mother wryly smiled as she thought of the version of her son she had never seen before and shook her head. "I hope that’s true."

It would be truly astounding if ghost possession was really true. If that wasn’t the case, then her son was truly capable of shocking people to the fullest.

Meanwhile, on Calista’s side, she safely crossed the road with Hayes’s help and found nothing wrong with it.

She was taken to the gazebo where she sat down waiting for the arrival of Hayes’s family, who were, according to him, they were the ones in the approaching carriages.

Seeing the carriages approaching, Hayes excused himself to welcome his family, leaving her with Orson.

There was a distance until the carriages could reach where she was, which meant that there was a lot of time for her and Orson to talk a lot.

"Do you like Hayes?" Orson suddenly asked, catching her by surprise.

Calista turned her head to look at Orson with her brows arched, cursing inwardly at what this man had in his mind.

Didn’t he think of anything different except affairs?

She sniggered at him while rolling her eyes, her response very obvious.

Getting scolded suddenly, Orson rubbed his nose, knowing that he had poked her and might be in for a wild ride later.

"Stop thinking nonsense and make sure that my payment arrives early. This lady is itching to use those things for something good!" Calista didn’t answer his question but rather touched on his sore point.

She had been waiting for her payment for a long time and there was no sign of anything arriving.

Could it be that he was planning on staying with her forever?

Hell no! She wasn’t going to accept that.

He would hinder her in her ways.

Orson’s lips twitched when he was attacked suddenly like that. He couldn’t help but defend himself. "They are on the way. Trust me!" he had sent a letter and that subordinate of his wasn’t someone who would take things lightly.

He was certain that in two months at most, the things would be arriving.

Upon hearing that, Calista looked suspiciously at him, her actions leaving Orson at a loss.

"Am I that untrustworthy?" he couldn’t help but ask helplessly before regretting it once he had said it out loud.

Calista, upon hearing that, burst into a peal of laughter, finding that question hilarious.

She didn’t even need to answer, but her response was very loud and clear.

Orson could only smile wryly, vowing inwardly to work hard on making her trust him again.
