Chapter 217: HAVING ANOTHER TALK
Chapter 217: Chapter 217: HAVING ANOTHER TALK
The news of the girls waking up quickly spread throughout the village and it became the talk of the moment.
Calista didn’t mind people talking about that matter. After all, the girls weren’t going to be cooped in the house the whole time they would be staying with her.
She was still waiting for the things she asked from him and so far; she hadn’t heard a single thing.
With the girls awake, Calista left them to Ma Susan, who came to check on them daily, and the girls were very clingy and liked hanging around her all the time.
They would be calling her mother this and that, and she ended up just answering them, even in public.
With her good relationship with the girls, people started speculating that she and Orson were getting back together. Honestly, when she heard that, she nearly exploded angrily.
She was at the snack shop, watching merrily as the snacks continued to be picked when she overheard some women passing by the road talking about it.
"Will we be getting another banquet?"
"Hehe, you are just too gluttonous, aren’t you? Thinking about food again!"
"How can I not? Maybe Madam Solace might get remarried to the master now that he is back."
"That’s true. The girls are already shadowing her like she is their mother."
"She is really lucky, you know!"
"It’s not all about luck, but hard work. Didn’t you see her tiring for all this to happen?"
As for the good things that they talked about later, Calista just wanted to lift Orson by the collar and ask him what the heck was everyone talking about.
With that fury inside her, she left the snack shop accompanied by Hayes, who she had noticed that despite his age, his love for drama was on another level.
However, she didn’t blame him. Who didn’t like drama?
She loved it as well.
Calista and Hayes returned to the manor where Orson and his daughters were.
When she arrived, the girls were so happy that they ran towards her.
Unable to reject them, knowing how much they liked her, she hugged them with a smile as she asked playfully, "Did you have fun with your father?"
The girls nodded with sparks in their eyes. "Yes, we did, but we missed you, Mother. Are you done with your chores?"
Calista flicked the girls’ foreheads playfully, seeing how sweet-tongued they were becoming with each passing day.
No wonder why they were his daughters. Father and children were from the same mold. His sweet words also fooled her that she forgot that he was lying to her, and when she woke up, he wasn’t returning anymore.
"Good. I missed you too, but for now, this mother of yours has something to talk to your father about," she softly said as she rubbed the girls’ small heads.
The girls, upon hearing that, smiled at first before their expression became worried.
Everyone knew about the bad blood between the two. Whenever their father was around, their mother would vanish and go elsewhere. The last time they sat together for a short time, they witnessed their father getting scolded left and right. They didn’t even know how that fight started.
But they all knew that their father would always lose. Even if he was strong, could he fight a pregnant woman?
As a result, not only did he lose against his mother, but against his grandmother and uncle Hayes again.
Now hearing that mother wanted to talk to father, they were worried that another fight was going to break out and their hopes dashed. However, as children, they didn’t dare interfere in adults’ issues. Just like what grandmother Dickens said, adults would solve their problems their own way.
They just needed to be given time.
Thinking about that, the worry on their faces disappeared.
Gemma held Calista’s hand playfully as she said, "Then we will leave you to it."
Calista smiled as she looked at the girls who had matured quite early.
"Sure. You can go and play with Whitey. He should be sleeping in the gazebo!’
When the girls heard that, they quickly bid their father and mother goodbye before dashing outside.
The girls, despite knowing that Whitey and Blackey weren’t what they looked like, as children, really loved these two very much.
Besides, with them in the gazebo, it meant that their father was safe from being suppressed.
So, they were very happy to leave those two alone.
Calista chuckled lightly as she looked at the fleeing kids. How can kids wear their emotions on their sleeves nowadays?
Thinking of that, her gaze suddenly turned cold as she looked at the person who might have made the girls mature a bit too early.
"What kind of father are you?" she snapped angrily as she walked towards the girls’ bed.
Orson, upon getting attacked for no reason, was used to it already.
He even ignored Hayes, who was giving him that familiar smug expression, seeking attention and trouble by the looks of it as he asked calmly, "What did I do again? I don’t remember doing anything bad recently."
He might be irresponsible, but he had been doing his best to make up for it.
Compared to the early days when he returned, now whenever he saw her, he would greet her and ask about her welfare. He didn’t forget the child in her belly as well. He was even helping out when he wasn’t with the girls, so why was he being scolded?
Calista harrumphed as she looked at him, filtering her answer as she sat down.
Indeed, he hadn’t done anything wrong lately. The people’s gossip was getting to her and since she couldn’t vent out to them, Orson became her target, but did that even matter?
Since he was there for her to vent out, then she was going to do it.
"I don’t care what you did wrong or did right. Right now, let’s talk about something serious!"
Orson’s eyes narrowed when he heard that. What kind of serious talk were they going to talk about? He looked at Hayes, wondering if he knew something, but upon seeing the curiosity in his eyes, he knew that only she knew what was going on.
"What do you want to talk about? Let’s talk!" and since the only way to know was by talking it out, there was no need to run away from the matter but just face it head-on like a man.
