Chapter 216: GEMMA AND EMMA
Chapter 216: Chapter 216: GEMMA AND EMMA
Although the girl didn’t do anything except to be unconscious, if she wasn’t persistent in living, her body might have refused any treatment.
When a person doesn’t need salvation or to live, it won’t matter if you use a divine medicine, that person would still succumb to his or her fate. So, when it comes to certain illnesses, having a positive mind, being optimistic and preserving, would save lives.
Emma beamed brightly at Calista, feeling happy to get that kind of confirmation.
She threw herself into Calista’s arms, which was quite unexpected, however, Calista reacted in time, so the shock was small.
"Thank you, mother!" Emma sincerely thanked me for this time.
The knowledge of living well in the future after the horrible years she had lived because of this family illness made her feel ecstatic. She wasn’t the only one feeling like that, as Gemma felt the same too.
This time, she thought that she wasn’t going to wake up, but she did. Despite being unconscious, she could hear every single thing that those around her were saying.
What kept her going was the knowledge that they were going to meet that person who was going to save them. As long as they continue to hold on, they would be saved, and surely that became the case.
Looking at Calista, despite of how she and her father got together, for the first time in many years ever since her mother passed away, she felt glad that it was Lady Solace who ended up with her father.
If it was another woman, wouldn’t that woman be so happy to see them dying?
Thank the deities. Her father found someone with a heart.
Calista beamed as she felt the girl’s sincere gratitude. As a mother-to-be, being surrounded by such a clean child who happened to be liked by her own child, she patted her small back as she responded, "Just live well from now on. Can you do that?"
Emma hurriedly nodded her head as her eyes sparkled while looking at her father, who seemed to be holding his tears.
With a reassuring smile on her face, she responded, "I will live well. Just watch me!’
"Hehe, don’t worry, I will be keeping an eye on you," Calista playfully promised.
Emma giggled as she separated from the embrace, her liking for the new mother on another level.
Calista sent the girl back before calling Gemma. She checked the eldest and, just like Emma, everything was going perfectly.
With the girls getting better, she looked at their father and said, "The girls are getting better and it will take a month or so, depending on how it goes for them to be fully healed," informing him of their conditions.
When he heard that, Orson looked at Calista with gratitude and said, "Thank you for everything," very sincere about it.
Calista chuckled faintly at his words before responding, "It’s nothing. Just doing the best that I can," while inwardly she was saying, ’I am getting paid as well, so why do a bad job at it?’ her lips curling upwards into a smirk.
Orson pretended to not have seen that smirk at the end, fully aware that she might be cursing him right now. But as long as she didn’t do it in front of the kids or say it out loud, then she didn’t say it.
Calista told Orson a few more things that the girls should be wary of and once she was done, she excused herself.
It was time for a meal and then napping. She had played for far too long.
Orson didn’t keep her with them but kindly escorted her to the door before she chased him away.
He stood by the door as he watched her slowly make way to the other side of the house. The belly had gotten too big and from what he was seeing, in a few weeks, she would be in labor.
Thinking about the horrors women face at this time, his blood went cold as fear crept up on him.
’She would be fine, right?’ he couldn’t help but ask himself worriedly, his gaze fixated on her as she vanished from his sight.
Not knowing what the future would be like, Orson suddenly found himself beating himself, being eaten by guilt.
He was a bad person. Not that he didn’t know, but for the first time he felt that he wasn’t good.
Even after everything that happened today, he didn’t even get to say thank you to her, nor did he ask about her welfare.
It seemed that every time he was with his girls; he didn’t have eyes on others at all. At the rate this was going, would he and she even reconcile and become friends at least?
He doubted.
After watching her leave, he returned inside the room only to find the girls looking at him with that familiar gaze. ’What did you do?’
Orson looked at the girls with raised brows, wondering what had gotten into them as soon as they woke up.
He and the girls were very close, despite his cold character everyone was used to. When it came to them, he was the warmest father he could ever be. He had done his best to spend time with them and be honest with them in most cases. As children who were born in a bandit clan, there were certain facts they needed to face early.
That was why when they woke up and saw that they were doing much better than they had done ever since they were diagnosed with that genetic disease on their maternal side. A strange illness that had killed their mother and first wife.
It also killed the previous chief, the father of his deceased wife and his adopted father. Now his daughters, his brother-in-law and his children were afflicted with the same illness.
With the girls getting better, it meant that those like them would also be treated. There was hope.
However, that hope only depends on whether the person who has the medicine would be willing to part with it.
Treating the girls was something that she did, maybe because she was a mother as well. But treating the others, Orson doubted that she would agree.
Anyway, that was another problem for another day. So, he concentrated on the complicated relationship between him and Calista.
He came clean to his daughters. Since they mattered to her more than anything else, he desperately wanted them to know. Or maybe get their blessings.
Although he kept on messing up things, he still has feelings for Calista and with them sharing a child, it would be nice to be a family again. Of course, that can only happen if the girls are in the same boat. Without their support, he didn’t think that he could be with her.
A part of him would always be guilty.
And he didn’t want to live such a kind of life.
Above all, he didn’t want to hurt her again. He had done a lot of damage already.
If he dared to try it a second time ...... just thinking about the deadly consequences, Orson confessed everything to his daughters.
