’We are finally here!’ he thought to himself as he looked at the city. He had been so eager to reach for a while now.

After traveling nonstop, they were finally in Liresa City.

’Is she still here?’ he pondered as the carriages continued to move.

Ever since he heard that she was in Liresa City, he just wanted to rush to her. Meet her when she is still in this place and settle their differences.

If he failed to meet her here, then he would have to travel to her, to her home ground, and things might not turn out well. He was a bit scared and at the same time, looking forward to seeing her.

It’s been months, after all.

Upon arrival, Pierce had everyone settle down to rest, while he waited for the rider whose responsibility was to find news about his target, Calista. He was waiting for him right now.

If she was still in the city, he just needed to know where she was and find a chance to meet with her. But if she wasn’t, then he needed to move fast. Time wasn’t on his side. His daughters’ health kept on deteriorating with each passing day.

It was starting to get worrisome.

Resting at the inn, he and Vaani, alongside a few of them, headed for the streets, checking the place out.

Vaani was very curious about everything. It was her first time traveling all the way to such a place. She had been to the capital city before, but in such remote places, like these, it was a first.

Her curiosity was piqued, and everything in her eyes looked very entertaining.

As a bandit, what she didn’t lack was money. So, whenever she came across something that she liked, she would buy it.

After walking for a while, Pierce had everyone gather at this restaurant and being hungry, Vaani just followed suit and joined the others.

Meanwhile, in Pierce’s mind, there was a reason why he picked that restaurant among many. From the reports he had received, this restaurant was connected to Calista.

Calista’s best friend, a friend he didn’t even know about before, happened to be the wonder of the restaurant and the one who had been hosting Calista whenever she was in the city.

If he is lucky, he might get a chance to run into Calista here. He hoped.

Food was ordered, and they started eating. As they ate, Pierce’s sensitive ears couldn’t help but overhear a certain ongoing conversation.

"I wonder how she is doing right now?"

"Who?"

"That ignorant friend of mine. She is too relaxed for her condition, you know!"

"Why are you worried? It’s not like she doesn’t have people who care for her by her side?"

"But still, I can’t help but worry."

"Isn’t that young master accompanying her?"

"So, what if he is accompanying her? All men are the same!"

"Hehe, why are you including him just because you are angry at that cowardly husband of your friend?"

"Hah, don’t even bring that bastard here! I can imagine if one day they meet again."

"What schemes are you planning?"

"Hehe, nothing much. But the Calista I know; she would definitely do something crazy!"

"Will it be that serious?"

"Anyway, I just hope that she will continue being happy. Many choices surround her. She can have any man she wants and all of them will be better than that bastard!"

"That’s true. Do you know that I received messages from those three a few days ago? They are wondering if she is on the market!"

"Humph. What can they give her? She is richer than them. Aren’t they just salivating for her money?"

"Who knows? Anyway, I just told them that if they are interested, they should ask her directly. Haha, they all shivered with fear."

"Humph! They are all cowards and afraid of her fury, but still want her?"

"That’s how they are. We can’t change it."

The rest of what these ladies talked about; Pierce could no longer hear anything.

In his mind, all that kept ringing was how there were so many men who wanted her. How she was surrounded by caring men and, above all, how she was currently with a man.

Who was that person?

Pierce’s fists clenched as a murderous glint flashed across his eyes. The change in his mood made him involuntarily release his pressure, startling the people who were with him.

’Who offended him?’ they wondered nervously, knowing how much pissed off he was right now.

Vaani, on the other hand, gritted her teeth as her nails dug into her palms drawing blood. Unlike the others who were concentrating on food, she had been eavesdropping on what the ladies were talking about.

And somehow, she continued to hear the name of the woman who was once married to the doctor and she didn’t like what she heard.

If she didn’t like it, then what about Pierce?

Was he wavering?

Was he acting jealous and bothered right now?

Did he perhaps love her?

Just what was going on in his mind?

The more she thought about it, the more pissed off she became.

’I want to see what kind of woman you are. What makes you so special is for him to be in a daze and show so many emotions he never even showed when that woman was alive! Just who are you, Calista?’

Unfortunately, the answer to this question could only be received from the person in question.

Pierce was no longer in the mood to eat. With him in such a state, it also meant that those who came with him would suffer as well.

As a result, the whole group left without even eating most of the food they ordered.

On the way back to the inn, Pierce was emitting a dangerous vibe which made his subordinates stay away from him.

After getting what he wanted, he just left without saying a word, leaving the madam who loved him so much waiting like a fool.

He should have at least written a letter or confessed about the other family.

The madam was nice, and he didn’t think that she would object. She was, after all, someone who once married a man much older than her when she was young and became a stepmother at a young age.

Since she was able to do that before, why would accepting two more daughters be a trouble?

If he cared, it meant that he was going to put more effort into making the madam his.

After all, there was no way that she was going to just take out medicine and give him just because he said so.
