Chapter 183: Chapter 183: SETTING SOME GROUND RULES

"Without wasting too much of your time, I will start with something very serious. Something that I will not change no matter what, and something that you must be used to as long as you continue working with me here!" with a mysterious smile on her face, she continued with her address.

"I built these dorms for all of you to have a place to stay when you are working. This way, you will not tirelessly travel to and from your places. And these dorms are for free. You can stay and live here as long as you are working for me for free. However, this is only eligible for you who are working for me and not your families.

Your family members can visit you for a day or so, but you will have to seek permission from the management before doing so. And this can also only be allowed when there are still rooms to accommodate them during that time.

This leads me to what I wanted to talk about in the first place, the issue of food. As you have seen, I have purchased food for you and it’s enough to last everyone a week, as long as you cook moderately without being too greedy.

We have two communal kitchens which will be used to cater for each dormitory. So, remember to gauge your rations in this coming week, as well as the time to come in the future. When it comes to food, all of you will be responsible. You are required to contribute. As your employer, I will add this and that there, but without your contributions, you won’t have enough to eat.

I will not spoil you guys in this manner and provide food on top of the job and free accommodation. The wages I am giving you are so much compared to many workplaces out there, so don’t dare give me the excuse that you don’t have money. In fact, to make things easier. The money for food will be taken from your wages weekly and everyone will ...."

Calista had been thinking hard about this issue in the past three weeks and it nearly gave her a headache.

She thought of the worlds she once transmigrated to and how they treated their staff and found their methods to be feasible and more convenient for her.

In the worlds she had been to, in most cases, the employers only provide the employees with their salaries. And if they are fortunate and if the company is big, they would be provided with some benefits such as life insurance, year-end bonuses, etc.

Some of them only get a measly wage and yet must pay for transport, rent and other utilities. It won’t be much, but they would still have to work it out until it works.

Returning to her era and the current situation in the workforce field, all the people who go to work didn’t receive the kind of benefits that she was giving the staff right now.

For her employees, apart from the salary itself, there were bonuses tied to their performances and free accommodation.

If she were to give them free food on top of that, then what kind of business was she running? There were also the free uniforms she handed to all the staff meticulously sewn by the embroidery ladies whom she hired a long time ago.

Each person got one set, and in the future, they would be getting another one. If they want more, they would have to buy it.

By providing uniforms, she hoped that these people who didn’t dare buy fabrics or clothes just to save for food and other expenses, would save their clothes and tire the uniforms in the process.

Returning the issue to food, before paying everyone their wages, Calista would take the calculated money from each person to put into food. If someone can’t accept that, then the person would be forced to leave.

There was no person allowed to prepare a single meal in the kitchen. There wasn’t time for such acts in her dorm. That would waste a lot of time, and she didn’t want to see something like that.

After expressing herself, more of a statement rather than a discussion, everyone nodded their heads in agreement. If they didn’t agree with her, then it meant that their jobs would be forfeit. There were so many people out there still vying for a job at Calista’s factory.

They didn’t have the luxury to stress themselves for something small like this.

Calista also talked about hygiene for the umpteenth time and greatly emphasized the importance of these women and men using the designated toilets she had built for their issues.

There was a nearby river if they wanted to feel the flowing water over their bodies and a well in place for them to fetch water all the time. She didn’t want to see anyone stinking or being dirty, no matter what time it was.

This topic lasted for a long time and those who listened could tell how important this was to Calista. She even threatened to fire them if they ever got caught being dirty.

After this disturbing topic, Calista moved on to the topic of obedience and insubordination.

"I know that some of you think that no one is below you and you know it all. But I can say that in here, what I say is the law. If I instruct you to do this, then I want to see you doing it. If you don’t agree to it, then make sure that your reason is well concocted and senseful enough for me to not be angry.

Several men and women are your managers, and I give these people authority. I expect you, regardless of their status, in your eyes to follow their order to the letter. Learn from them and follow their instructions. When you don’t understand, then ask and learn earnestly.

Of course, to the managers, it doesn’t mean that just because these people answer to you means that you can abuse your powers. If such cases happen, then you, as the subordinates, come and report to me. As long as your case is clear, respective rewards and punishments would be dished out."
