Chapter 181: Chapter 181: GETTING BUSY AGAIN 2
The next day, Calista was busy assigning the lucky thirty villagers to their respective workshops.
And to do so, she first asked them a set of questions.
She wanted these people to be in an industry or line of work which they felt a passion for. When a person is passionate about something, that person will give his or her all to get the job done.
It was different from someone who was doing a job for the sake of it.
With that in mind, when the thirty villagers gathered, with thirteen being men and seventeen women, she started with the questions, but before that; she gave the villagers a brief detail of what they were going to face. This way, they would know where to learn when they start answering her questions later.
"The factory is divided into four as you will see when you get inside. However, there will be a minimum of five workshops with more to come in the future depending on the situation. There is the most important workshop, the sugar-making workshop, which will be in charge of making sugar.
We all understand the importance of sugar and how expensive it is even for us to buy it in town. Because of how expensive sugar is, we can’t even have sweet food, which I find a pity. So for this workshop, I will need strong people, very dedicated and people who aren’t afraid of fire.
In other words, not trying to be discriminative in this case, I will need a lot of men though women are very important too. But to be fair, I would prefer the majority of people working in this workshop to be men.
The same goes for the leather-making workshop. Playing with animal hides has been something that men love. So, I hope to see more men in this workshop.
The other three workshops are more inclined towards the ladies. We all know how to sew clothes in our own ways. It’s something ingrained in us women. Something that we are taught from a young age, and I believe that you ladies can show your talents in this workshop.
The next workshop is the food workshop. The ladies, I expect you to be very good at cooking when you are part of this workshop. If you aren’t, then at least be eager to learn and be very hygienic. When dealing with food, I would strangle anyone I see as very dirty and hygienic. A lot can happen when people play with their hygiene. There are so many illnesses that are caused by lack of hygiene and I would dare do something outrageous if I found such a person in my workshop.
So, if you know that .... No, no matter which part of the factory you work in, if you are someone who doesn’t like bathing and taking care of yourself, I will fire you without mercy.
I will not tolerate dirty people in my workshop. This is not just for me, but for yourselves as well. Let us learn to love water on our skin like fish. Only when people are clean, can they not frequently fall sick all the time and die early.
Anyway, that’s something that can be discussed with everyone. Let us move on to the other workshop, the handcraft workshop. For this one, I will need very quick-witted people who are imaginative and can think out of the box.
People in this workshop can learn basketry and other types of handcrafts I will introduce in the future. There will be a lot for you to do. In this workshop, you can learn a set of skills that other people don’t have. However, it might be tiring as you won’t be sure what is expected of you.
So, when you think hard ladies and gents, make sure that you pick something that you think you can do. And don’t try to do much that you can’t do. You can dig a pit for yourself by being too greedy!"
Calista addressed the thirty with a serious expression on her face.
This was no longer a joke. If these people toy with her projects, she would be the one suffering a major loss. She hated losses a lot. She loathed and dreaded them so much. She was the kind that would smile on the outside and still curse inwardly and hold a grudge.
She wouldn’t want to curse the whole village every second because of them causing her a loss just because they wanted to take or do what they couldn’t do.
After explaining herself, the questions followed.
"What are you good at?"
"Have you ever hunted?"
"Are you confident with learning how to ....?"
"Can you work under pressure?"
"Which factory are you interested in?"
The questions were just basics, and by receiving the answers, she was able to tell which workshops these villagers were interested in.
When all the questions were done and answers received, Calista also assigned the villagers to the workshops, which they would be working in for the days to come.
With the five workshops ready to open on any day, the thirty villagers were split into the following.
Food workshop – 8 women
Clothes workshop – 6 women
Leathermaking workshops – 5 men
Sugar-making factory – 8 men
Handicraft’s workshop – 3 women
And these figures were pitifully little. For now, she wanted at least twenty for each workshop. Others can work in the factory, while others run around collecting materials and running errands.
It wasn’t like the modern era where there were telephones and the internet. People can just make a call or place an order online and have everything delivered to their doors.
In this era, one needed to travel to where the needed material or resource was in order to buy it. Once purchased, then bring it to where you need it.
With how many days a person can travel to get to places in this era, won’t the business shut down in the process?
So having more people on the job would help with this problem.
Not everyone would work in the factory itself.
That’s where those who barely passed would come in once the second round of interviews starts.
