Chapter 176: A FAREWELL BANQUET

Chapter 176: Chapter 176: A FAREWELL BANQUET

CROPVILLE VILLAGE

Days quickly flew by and before everyone knew it, it was the day where Calista was going to host another banquet again.

This time, it was a farewell banquet hosted for her nanny, the mysterious lady who arrived over a month ago and the teacher who had done his best to teach every villager and made them walk with their heads tall.

In the village, except for the toddlers and those who were too old to move, almost everyone now knew how to write their names and read the basics.

Their village had become one of the most respectable villages, with the highest number of semi-literate people all over.

With the forced compulsory education Calista enforced, which was accompanied by threats, how could the villagers dare not go to school and learn?

It was a pity that the teacher was returning. But what could they do when the teacher also has his own family?

The only thing that they could do was show their gratitude in the best way that they now know; contribute towards the banquet.

They didn’t have much to give to their teacher, but they had food.

So, on this day, several baskets were sent to Calista’s manor and Calista accepted everything that came to her.

These people had been eating her food, taking her medicine and many other things. If she doesn’t suck them dry when they came willingly to her like this, then when else would she be able to do so?

So, she took everything that was sent and happily organized it, into what could be used on that day and what could be used later.

After doing so, the twenty-four-week pregnant lady left for the river, eager to catch some fish personally.

Although the kids she hired to do the fishing for her were still there, they wouldn’t be able to catch the kind of fish that she wanted.

Besides, the kids only fish for two days every week. And this time, she planned on moving further away from the usual spots.

So, when she left for fishing this time, she took the carriage and left with an entourage.

The fishing spot she picked was over an hour away from the village. They had to alight from the carriage first and then walk for a while to where the river was.

Calista took the lead alongside the ever-worrying Ma Susan who came to keep an eye on her alongside Mammy Lena, Diana and the maids.

Some men tagged along. Frank, Tim from the Dickens family, and Diana’s bodyguards.

Who knows if they would be bandits?

So, Diana brought guards with weapons on this fishing journey.

When the river came into view, everyone was thrilled, as they couldn’t wait to see what miracles Calista would do this time.

Calista instructed others from a distance since she wasn’t allowed to go anywhere near the water. That’s the major reason these women accompanied her to the river in the first place.

This time, Calista to save time, increased the dose, so when the fishing baskets were put into the water, it didn’t take long before the fish started swimming crazily towards the bait.

In under an hour, all the barrels brought were full, and the fish was enough for the banquet, leaving even extra fish for the days to come.

When the fish was taken back to the manor, Calista watched as the maids took care of the fish and meticulously prepared it.

When that was done, when the cooking started, the fish was also included.

This farewell banquet wasn’t for everyone, but just a few people she invited. So, the amount of food prepared wasn’t as much as the one she had prepared during the previous banquet.

With all hands-on deck, the food was prepared and the aroma of the food drove the villagers crazy that whole day.

Fortunately, night arrived, and those who were invited found themselves seated outside with tables full of food in front of them.

The number of people invited to the banquet didn’t reach thirty, so it wasn’t as crowded as it was before.

This farewell banquet was for Mammy Lena, Lisa and Ian. The three were leaving the next day and as for when they would be able to see them again, that was something that they didn’t know.

Since the future was unknown, why not make use of the current moment to create wonderful memories that would last forever?

Calista thought to herself before and because of that, she planned the banquet.

No matter what happens in the future, everyone will always remember this night and have a smile on their faces.

Before everyone started digging into the food, Calista rose to her feet to make a toast. And of course, worried gazes were fixated on her just in case things go awry.

Holding a cup of juice in hand, she couldn’t drink beer or alcohol and could only resort to juice or tea.

When she stood up, all the chatter quieted down as they all wanted to hear what the host had to say.

Calista raised her cup towards Mammy Lena, Lisa and Ian as she said, "I just want to say thank you to you three for everything that you have done for me in the few months that we have been together.

Mammy, you arrived at a time when I needed someone close to me and your arrival truly made it easy for me to live and do everything that I wanted. You took care of everything and made sure that I ate, was warm and was comfortable. For that, I want to say thank you," she sincerely thanked as she looked at the mammy who came into her life unexpectedly and managed to shake her heart and dig her way through it.

Mammy Lena raised her cup as she looked at the other with teary and red eyes.

Thinking about how she came all the way to this place and became so close to her lady, she couldn’t help but feel nostalgic.

Calista briefly smiled at the mammy who was about to choke into tears and quickly calmed herself.

She must not cry! She cheered herself as she turned to Lisa.
