Chapter 172: Chapter 172: HE IS LEAVING TOO!

"Sister, you know .... This .... I know that this may be a bad time to say this but there is nothing that I can do about this situation!" suddenly Ian started speaking, stuttering as he found it difficult to express what he wanted to say.

Calista, hearing this, and seeing the confident scholar speaking in such a manner, knew that things were about to get bad. And honestly, she didn’t like the sound of it at all, but so what if she didn’t like it?

Would she be able to stop him from saying whatever he came here for?

She wasn’t an authoritarian person. And she didn’t own the man, so whatever he wanted to do, she could only nod her head to everything.

Calista calmed her thoughts, and with a faint smile on her face, without revealing her dissatisfaction with whatever was about to happen, she asked, "What is it that you want to talk about? Feel free. You know I don’t bite!" her tone was very mild and not revealing her current mood.

Ian looked at Calista, who had a faint smile on her face and sighed with relief inwardly. She didn’t seem to suspect anything much and on top of that, she didn’t erupt in anger. So, everything was good, he surmised.

"I .... You know that I have been here for a while now!"

Calista nodded when she heard that. Ian had been in the village for several months and she was grateful for everything that he did for her and the village.

Seeing that they were moving on the same path, he continued, "I haven’t been home for a long time and I came here to tell you that I will be leaving!" finally revealing the reason why he came to see her.

"Oh!" Calista exclaimed with surprise, her eyes widening upon hearing that.

Of all the things she was expecting to hear, this one didn’t run across her mind at all.

He was leaving?

That’s all she could think about as she digested his words.

Just like Mammy Lena and Lisa, he too was leaving. Why was everyone leaving?

She couldn’t help but feel sour the more she thought about it.

Ian, watching her changing expression, suddenly felt guilty and at the same time felt happier.

He didn’t think that his words would make her have such an expression.

Since she could show such emotions towards his departure, it meant that she had him in her heart. Maybe she was just too conservative and trying to not be in the spotlight, which was why she kept her distance from him.

Calista had no clue that Ian was spinning a tale and misunderstood her reaction. She was simply pissed off inwardly by what was happening.

If Ian leaves, who is going to teach the villagers?

The more she thought about it, the more solemn she became.

Nonetheless, she still needed to give the man an answer, a proper one. After all, he came to bid her farewell.

"I can’t stop you from leaving. As children, we need to show filial piety to our parents and see them often!" with a sigh, Calista said to Ian, agreeing to his request.

Although she would be suffering a loss with his departure, having him go and see his family, that was an honorable thing. She didn’t want to be so selfish as to deny a free man from seeing his family.

That wasn’t how she rolled.

Ian smiled at her as she said that.

"Thank you!" he said as soon as she was done.

"No problem. I should be thanking you instead!" she waved her hand with a smile, looking at the other sincerely and with gratitude.

If it wasn’t for Ian, who was very patient with the villagers, they wouldn’t have achieved what they had in these few months.

She was patient at times, but not to the extent of being patient daily and teaching the adults. If they didn’t listen and understand, Calista was certain that she would have blown up several times already and given up.

She wasn’t the kind of person qualified to become a teacher. Hell will definitely break loose if she does.

Ian found his heart warming up when she started saying those sweet words. He couldn’t help but find his decision the best. If he hadn’t done this, would he have heard this from her?

The two started chatting more and more about the studies of the students, their progress, and what Calista must do when he was gone.

"You don’t have to worry. I will hire a teacher in your absence. When you return one day, you will find the students doing well!" when all was said and done, Calista said this.

Ian, knowing that Calista would find a teacher, felt a bit upset. Her words were so direct and to his ears sounded more like, you are replaceable. It kind of hurts just listening to it.

But what else could she do when he was leaving?

"When are you leaving?" Calista asked, curious about his itinerary.

"I will round up their studies in the next few days. So roughly in four days. I will leave then!" he responded after a quick mental calculation.

Calista flicked her fingers as her mind geared pretty fast, doing her own mental calculation before she responded, "Okay. There are still days ahead. It’s enough!"

’Enough! Enough for what?’ he couldn’t help but wonder.

Curious about what she was talking about, shortly he found himself knowing the reason why.

Calista wanted someone to help Mammy Lena and Lisa on the road, and with Ian leaving, he would become the perfect person to help with this issue.

Ian was happy to help. As long as he earns enough brownie points and has her keep him in her heart, he might have a chance in the future.

Who cares about the child?

It wasn’t like there weren’t any men out there raising other men’s children.

He would just find a way to convince his parents and family about the situation in the future.

For now, he was going to do his best to make her remember him.

Whether it works or not, he would wait to see it.

When the talk was done, Calista reluctantly gave Ian some of her scones and watched him leave.

When the man was gone, Calista sat dejectedly in the gazebo, lost of appetite and her mind working on what she could do to give the best send away to these three who had done so much for her.

Just thinking about it, though, gave her a headache and made her want to hit someone.

Why was it happening all at once?

If they were related and friendly to each other, she would have suspected that they all planned this together.

Unfortunately, she was the trouble causer, the one who influenced Mammy Lena and Lisa to go on that journey.

So, she could only blame herself.

What else could she do?
