As they walked towards the shed, in one of the carriages, Calista watched as men and women alighted from the carriage. Judging from the way they were dressed and the color tone, they reminded her of something; the slaves.

"Are they slaves?" Calista asked directly as she watched these people being led to where they were.

Diana nodded as she looked at the incoming group and replied, "Um. These are people I bought with my parents’ help. They are all professionals with knowledge regarding the project that you are doing!" providing more details on the issue.

When Calista heard that, she was tongue-tied for a moment. She wasn’t expecting to hear something like that at all. To even think that Diana would go out of the way to find people for her was unexpected.

At the same time, she couldn’t help but wonder what her motives were for doing this. After all, there was no such thing as free meals.

She had learnt that the hard way.

"Are they here to give a hand?"

Diana chuckled as she looked at Calista, finding her question very cute. "Not really. They are yours. Their slave contracts are yours. They were bought in your name. With them, you can manage the projects easily and not have to worry about finding people who can betray you for some small benefits!" she answered Calista, explaining the reason why she did all this.

When she informed her parents about what Calista was doing and where she was living. Her parents were also worried about her. For her to make these projects work, she would need to hire people. And people nowadays aren’t faithful and loyal.

For some benefits or threats, they were willing to betray the person who changed their lives and gave them a livelihood.

Slaves, however, were different. Because their lives were in the hands of their masters, they wouldn’t dare cross the line.

The risk was simply too great, so they did everything moderately or worked hard to earn their master’s recognition.

There were many cases of slaves gaining their freedom. And that only happens when the slave gets in the good graces of the master and that is achieved by working hard.

There were eight of them. Three men and five women in total.

It even went further to them, knowing how to make shoes and other items. In other words, as long as she has a design, these two men could give her what she wants.

As for why they were slaves, that was something that she didn’t have time for. As long as they work well and faithfully for her, Calista wouldn’t treat them badly.

In the future, she might even grant them their freedom. Every slave craves freedom, a chance to have a family that isn’t constrained and restricted by the caste system. There were many drawbacks to being restricted by that system. It was horrible.

As someone who once suffered because of the caste system, she also wanted to let everyone live freely.

And she just hoped that they wouldn’t let her down.

The last man knew how to make sugar and the good thing was, he was also knowledgeable about beet sugar making as well.

And this man, in her eyes, happens to become a treasure. One she was willing to not lose.

This man would deal with all the stressful sugar-making procedures. Of course, their procedures might be different, but with a professional at hand, she believed that he would find the perfect method of achieving their goal without wasting too many resources.

As for the women, two of them were chefs from affluent families before. They were good in the kitchen, which means that they would be useful in the food factory.

In that factory, she wanted people who could cook good food. Even if the food gets dried, it should still taste nice. Only when food is delicious can people think of buying again.

So having professional cooks would save her the trouble of entering the factory and helping with cooking.

When it comes to food, Calista knew that she was good. No one could compare to her. She was that confident. But she couldn’t confine herself to the kitchen. She was too lazy to cook every day for many people.

So, having talented people helping with the job, she didn’t mind at all. So, it made it easier for her once again now that she has these talented chefs. In the future, she would leave all the troublesome recipes to them.

Let them teach the others and provide her with something good at the end of the day.
