Chapter 164: Chapter 164: SCARY!
When Calista heard the list of what Lisa knew, couldn’t help but look at the other fondly.
What she lacked were people who knew their crafts and such crafts, which were very rare like this. So far, she found those jewelers and a sculptor. However, they haven’t started any mass production lately since everyone was just starting.
The other crafts were common knowledge, and she was forced to learn this and that to bring it to life. But having a knowledgeable person like Lisa who can actually help with such recipes, Calista found the other more likeable the more she looked at her.
"That’s awesome. If you don’t mind, why don’t you sell to me some recipes you know? As you know, I am running a business and want to have a few local specialties to draw people here!" instead of shamelessly asking for the recipes for free, Calista decided to be a person and maybe get them using the right channel.
"Huh!" Lisa’s mouth went wide open when she heard that. She wasn’t expecting the madam to want to buy the recipes from her.
How was that necessary?
She wasn’t that thick-skinned to sell such recipes and everyone knew where she came from to the person who was taking care of her. She didn’t have such guts to play like that.
Scared of offending the madam, she hurriedly shook her hands as she refused. "No, madam. I will not sell it to you!" her words caught Calista by surprise.
"Huh!" she exclaimed in surprise, baffled by what she just heard.
Lisa, seeing that she had spouted that without finishing, hurriedly stood on her feet, feeling a bit choked as if she would cry at any second.
Calista, seeing the other on her feet, narrowed her eyes as she wondered what the other wanted to do again.
"No, I don’t mean it like that. I don’t want to sell it to you, but give it to you for free. I don’t know how to repay you for everything that you have done for me. If you want it, then you can have it!" Lisa hurriedly explained herself, and Calista sighed with relief upon hearing that.
For a moment there, she nearly cursed Lisa and unleashed Blackey to deal with her when she wasn’t looking.
How dare she say no to her?
Thankfully, the other was very tactful and gave it to a silver platter. Wasn’t this what she was looking for when she asked that question earlier?
Calista suddenly beamed at Lisa, motioning for the other to take a seat. "Don’t panic, I was just startled for a bit."
’Sigh!’ she sighed inwardly as she took her seat. She was scared for a moment there when she saw how angry the madam looked when she was rejected.
Never underestimate smiling people, Lisa warned herself.
’This was a test. Definitely one. Thank the deities I didn’t dare sell it to her. Who knows how unfortunate I would have been if I did that!’ Lisa wasn’t an idiot to not understand some unspoken rules.
She worked at a brothel for years and saw the matron dealing with many sly foxes, and yet for a moment there, she nearly let her guard down.
This madam was more dangerous than the people she had seen. In just a few seconds, she nearly suffocated from the pressure and yet the next second, the other, was all smiles, as if that murderous vibe wasn’t from her.
Lisa and Calista chatted a bit more, with Lisa doing more of the talking as she described the methods used when brewing wine, and making scented pouches and the soaps.
Calista loves hearing stories and accumulating knowledge. So, she was a good student and listened very attentively, making Lisa enjoy the moment as well.
It was rare to have such rich madams taking other people seriously like that. Even the fear she had accumulated for the madam a while ago vanished. If she were to ignore the deadly aura, Lisa found the madam very cute and a bit too straightforward.
She was a good person, at least to people who didn’t offend her. As for those who do, she didn’t even want to imagine how unfortunate they would be.
When the day ended, Calista in her bedroom held her diary as she jotted down the events of the day.
She didn’t forget to add the new ideas which she had come up with or rather the confirmation of the old ideas she had thought of before but had been procrastinating on making a move on.
With Lisa’s knowledge of brewing wine, Calista felt that she had found a gem. She was knowledgeable in making juice but not wine.
So having Lisa know this craft, she felt that she had stumbled upon a messenger of wealth.
Wine was one of the products which generated money for a lot of people. Even the poor still drank wine, which means that it was sought after.
Having Lisa brew fruit wine was a bit different from the wine that people on this side were used to. Since the wine she had seen in her district was restricted to rice wine, or beer brewed using millet, which was very strong and a cup could knock a person out. Selling fruit wine would open a niche market for her.
There weren’t a lot of fruit wines for sale around this area, and she just happened to have a small orchard of fruit trees, and she was planning on planting fruit trees as well. As long as the villagers agreed, then the orchard was set for life.
She would start a business which would draw all the merchants and alcoholics to her village, thereby promoting the village, something that she had always wanted.
On top of that, being able to make soap, whether normal or scented soaps, the lives of the people would be improved once again. Being hygienic was a must. People tend to bathe fake, by splashing water all over their bodies without cleansing thoroughly. That can be changed by having soap nearby which is easily affordable.
And having scented pouches was a bonus. Who didn’t want to smell nice?
Thinking about these three products in the future, Calista could finally see those extra buildings she added in the street market having use.
Open a wine shop, and a toiletry shop to sell the amenities.
How wonderful that would be!
