Chapter 157: Chapter 157: TAKE IT HOME!
With an agreement reached, the dessert finally arrived, and it was the cakes she had baked in the morning.
When the cakes came, the two men once again found themselves in a dilemma, wondering what was going on, but Calista was very enthusiastic and explained what was going on once again.
"These are called cakes. I made an orange and apple cake!"
And upon hearing that, Sir Henrich’s eyes lit up. He had heard so much about cakes from his wife. But never once did he manage to eat it. Cakes were expensive and luxurious. As a small official, he couldn’t afford such luxury all the time.
So, learning that he was going to eat cakes, he couldn’t help but look at Madam Solace as if she was a goddess.
"You ..... you can bake cakes too?" Sir Henrich asked, his voice trembling in shock, and the excitement in his eyes visible for all to see.
Calista nodded with a prideful smile. ’Um. I can bake them and trust me; they are that good!"
Upon hearing that, Sir Henrich felt like he had met his lucky star.
If these cakes were to be sold, did she even know how much money she could make by selling them?
The town and the street market can become so popular with just a cake alone. And with the many possibilities of what might happen, Sir Henrich felt excited all over.
Calista, seeing the man’s excitement, knew that she was about to hit it large, so she urged the two men to taste the cakes.
The men didn’t dilly dally any longer and picked the slices of cakes and took several bites.
"The cakes are soft and fluffy. With each bite I take, I can taste the fruits within. They are completely different from the bread I have eaten before!" Sir Henrich commented as he tasted the two cakes.
Ba Susan nodded in acknowledgement. He had never eaten a cake before but he had eaten bread. And the difference between the two was so enormous, he didn’t even need to compare.
"If I were to sell these, do you think that I would make it?" Calista asked with a playful smile tugging on her lips as she looked at the councilor.
The man nodded immediately, without hesitation. He had already imagined what it would be like and honestly, this kind of business would soar. Especially if there are means of preserving the cakes so that they may last for longer.
When Calista heard that, she inwardly celebrated. Another money-making idea has been added to the list. How can she not be like this?
"Hehe, then I guess when the shops are built, I will add cakes to the menu as well!" she couldn’t help but say that out loud.
Sir Henrich nodded, looking forward to that happening.
"I have kept aside a few slices for you. You can take them home. Your wife might like them!" Calista, in a good mood, couldn’t help but say that to Sir Henrich.
Upon hearing that, the man beamed, happy to have something to bring home. With this, his wife might not throw a tantrum and have her imagination go wild.
The feast went well and so did the talks.
The time was ticking and if he continued getting relaxed in the village by the time he returned home, it would be too late.
Calista was happy to send the man off. Having an official with her for long was simply too tiring. The man was cunning and full of ideas. She just wanted him gone. Especially after getting what she wanted.
She didn’t forget to give him some parting gifts; meal boxes for those who were left at home. She had cooked a lot of food and didn’t mind sharing a bit with him.
At least this way, he can continue having a good impression of her.
Surely, when he left, Sir Henrich was all smiles and couldn’t stop praising Madam Solace to the village chief.
Ba Susan could only smile, applauding Calista for corrupting another person to look at her kindly. She was simply too good at this and this time; he didn’t oppose this method at all.
Having an official looking kindly at his village it didn’t sound bad at all.
With the guest gone, the remaining food was shared among Calista’s people, with several portions sent to Ian and the other sent to the Dickens family.
Since Ma Susan and Susan didn’t get to taste the new foods she cooked, she wanted them to have a taste as well.
And it was Susan who took her family’s portion later that evening when she was done preparing for tomorrow’s menu ingredients.
With the sun setting and welcoming dusk, the smoke once again started rising, as the villagers started preparing for dinner. And the manor was the same as everyone else’s.
Although three courses had been eaten, that food wasn’t much enough for everyone to sleep peacefully without dreaming of food. So, a simple dinner was going to be made to fill up the belly a bit.
Calista was in her bedroom, with the lamp on and jotting down that day’s events. As someone who had gotten used to writing a journal, she found joy in sharing her daily activities. Even if she was the only person who could read it.
"My lady! My lady!" suddenly as Calista was in the middle of a sentence, Mammy Lena’s excited and nervous call sounded in her ear as she sensed the other hurriedly making her way towards the bedroom.
’What is it again? Could it be there is another visitor at this time of the day?’ Calista complained inwardly as she looked towards the door where she was certain Mammy Lena would appear any second.
Surely, it didn’t take long before the other appeared; her face flushed. Whatever was happening, it was probably serious.
Calista sighed inwardly, cursing whoever made the Mammy this way as she closed her book and set it aside.
"Mammy, this better be something good! Or else, trust me, I will make you regret disturbing me!" with gritted teeth, Calista growled frustratedly at Mammy Lena, showing her displeasure at being disturbed.
Mammy Lena rubbed her nose guiltily, realizing what she had done, but it couldn’t be helped anymore. She had already offended the other, so she might as well continue and pray that the other would feel differently when she was done.
"I am sorry for disrupting you, but this couldn’t be helped!" she apologized with a slight bow first before continuing, "It’s that lady we rescued. She just woke up!" reporting the reason why she was acting like this.
