Chapter 155: Chapter 155: THICK-SKINNED

When the two men settled down, the three of them started engaging in small conversations, warming up to each other.

And as that conversation built up, food was served, and it came at the right moment. There was lots of food on the table. Sir Hendrich finally understood what the chief meant by a feast.

However, this feast was unlike any other.

Staling the many meal courses from the other worlds she transmigrated to previously, Calista started with the entrée. She didn’t know how long they were going to talk, but she didn’t want food to be wasted by having it all on the table at once.

So, it was divided into three parts. The entrée, main and dessert. This way they can talk as much as they want, fill their bellies with food and be happy throughout.

Looking at the food at the table, Sir Henrich couldn’t wait to eat it. However, before the host said otherwise, it would be rude to start. So, he could only wait.

Calista looked at the food at the table and felt very satisfied just looking at it.

She raised her head and looked at the two men joining her in the meal and smilingly said, "What we have here is the first course of the meal. I have prepared three courses for us. So, I hope that you will enjoy it!" reporting the first dish to them.

Upon hearing that, the two men looked at her in surprise.

This was just one course of the meal and there were two more to go? Just how much food were they going to eat?

They both couldn’t help but be stunned.

For the first meal course, Calista prepared tacos, at least in the simplest version she could manage with what was available to her. What mattered to her was that it should taste good. Besides, these people wouldn’t even know what she was talking about, anyway.

The toppings for the tacos were ground beef, cabbages, tomatoes, onions and chilli. On the side, she even provided several pieces of ham. Who didn’t like having more meat?

There was tea for everyone. Since she can’t drink wine, then no one else will. She will never dare touch her wine cellar for any guests at this moment unless she is selling.

"Thank you for the food!" the two men said in unison after listening to the detailed report of what they were eating.

They were clueless about this kind of dish, so their eagerness to know what it tasted like was high.

And so did they, started eating, following Calista’s lead.

While eating, no one said a word. Everyone was simply too busy enjoying the meal.

Nom. Nom. Nom.

Only sounds of eating resonated throughout the room and Calista, seeing everyone enjoying their food like that, felt the happiest.

In the future, she might consider adding tacos to the menu as well.

When the first course ended, the plates were taken away, and the men felt regretful to know that they had to swipe the dishes clean, but at the same time felt quite happy to have come across such a dish. It looked pretty simple, and something that any woman can cook out there.

Maybe when they go home, explain to their wives and maybe they can pick up from there and discern how to do it.

With the first meal out of the way, Sir Henrich decided that it was time to engage in serious business. If the courses were this many, by the time they were done eating, he might not have finished talking. So, using this moment when everyone was digesting to engage in serious talk sounded reasonable.

And to Calista, she found it acceptable as well.

"I have seen what you have done for your village. Honestly, I just want to comment and applaud you. This .... What you have done, not everyone can do it without achieving something!"

Calista smiled bashfully, getting the praise. No matter how many times she heard these kinds of praises, she couldn’t help but be bashful. Her intentions were never pure when she suggested all of this and yet the way people look at her because of all this made her feel slightly guilty.

However, her skin was very thick, and since she had done something good already, she could only be bashful but not ashamed.

"Thank you for your praise. Since I have the money, why not use it to benefit everyone?"

"That’s true. Which is why people like you are rare!"

"Hahaha, I guess that you can say that!" she chuckled heartily, unable to refute the man’s words.

Sir Henrich, seeing her like that, didn’t know how to respond to it. She was truly a thick-skinned person. Not shy at all at accepting praises or being humble about it.

As for Ba Susan, he was pretending as if he wasn’t there. Who made the man praise her to the nines like that?

When it comes to accepting praises, Calista was the most shameless about it. The one praising is the one who will end up shy and not her. You learn the hard way from her.

Thankfully, Calista changed the topic, making it easier for Sir Henrich as well.

"I just wanted to thank you in person for helping me annul my marriage. Thank you for what you did," Calista earnestly thanked the councilor for his help.

If he didn’t put a hand, she didn’t even want to imagine how long it might have taken her to get what she wanted. So, knowing that he helped, she liked him a bit.

"Haha, it’s nothing. Just giving a hand!"

"Um, for that, thank you. Anyway, there should be a reason why you wanted to meet me, right? How about we delve into that as we wait for the main course to arrive?" with all pleasantries out of the way, Calista strikes the nail on its head, without going in circles.

Sir Henrich wasn’t expecting her to be so direct. When he heard her suggestion, he was taken aback for a moment. He was speechless.

Was this how she talked all the time?

He couldn’t help but sweat. Conversing with direct people at times was truly a scary thing.

Ba Susan simply looked up to the roof, admiring the wonderful techniques of the masons, pretending once again that he wasn’t seeing what was going on.

"Um, there is indeed a reason I wanted to see you. You see ....." and with Calista opening the conversation, Sir Henrich found the rest much easier.
