Chapter 148: Chapter 148: HIS WORRIES

When Calista finished treating the patient, she came out of the room and left the welfare of this person to Mammy Lena.

As for her, she still needed to talk with Ba Susan, so she didn’t have time to take care of the other.

Ba Susan was waiting outside in the gazebo having some tea as he looked at the masons who were building the guesthouses.

Looking at the nearby guesthouse, it looked like it would be completed any time soon. He couldn’t help but marvel at how money can drive people to work that fast and provide quality at the same time.

With money, you are the king. He was starting to realize this.

After waiting for a long time, Calista finally appeared. Seeing the other, he smiled dotingly.

The child he had raised in some ways was all grown up. She was even becoming a mother and, thanks to her; the village was uplifted.

Surely, doing good things and having a good heart pays off pretty well.

If he hadn’t treated her well and just discarded her like what the villagers wanted, would this chance of improving everyone fall on them?

Even now, he was someone the councilor regarded highly. Could he have achieved all this without Calista?

No, he wouldn’t.

At moments like this, he couldn’t help but praise his daughter’s wisdom to stick with Calista despite her worrisome character.

If they weren’t close, who knows what might happen?

Calista shortly reached Ba Susan and took a seat in the comfortable rocking chair already set for her.

"Cali, is the woman doing fine?" he asked as soon as Calista was settled.

Calista, without responding to him, uncorked the water bottle she was holding, took a sip of the warm milk, and licked her lips to savor the sweet taste of the milk before answering, "Um. Her life isn’t in danger. At most, she can wake up tomorrow or the day after."

Upon hearing that, Ba Susan heaved with relief. "As long as she is fine, then it’s okay!" patting his chest. "So, what do you plan to deal with her?"

"Let’s wait for her to wake up. We can only know what’s going on then."

"But ..... you see that she was all bloody. What if she ....?" He didn’t need to finish his sentences as Calista somehow understood what he was trying to say.

"I know you have worries, but let us just wait. Besides, with me here, no one would mess around. If bandits or bad people are lingering around, I will deal with them. So be at ease!" as if she was bragging and boasting, Calista said.

Ba Susan, upon hearing that, chuckled helplessly, not believing a single word that she said but somehow felt relieved at hearing such reassuring words.

There have never been cases of bandits all these years. At least after the demise of John, Calista’s deceased husband. So, bandits might not be the case.

If they hurriedly conclude and raise a false alarm, the consequences might be dire.

At least for now, waiting for the lady to wake up and explain what was going on was the only choice.

"Okay, I will leave this to you."

"Um. I will take care of it," she acknowledged.

If she didn’t take care of it, how would she understand what that damn sorceress wanted from her?

Seeing that she accepted the mission without fussing, Ba Susan was relieved inwardly and finally at ease.

"It’s a good thing that you call me. I was about to come to your house earlier!" and he changed the topic, beaming as he said that.

Calista’s curiosity and interest were piqued upon seeing the man smiling. Whenever he smiled, something good would always follow. So, she was curious to know what good news the man might have brought her this time.

"Tell me. Is there something good going on that I don’t know?"

Ba Susan beamed further upon hearing that, his eyes squinting into slits as he does so.

"It’s the councilor. Since you can’t go to meet him because of your condition, he is planning to come over. What do you think?" Ba Susan told Calista with a chuckle, over the moon with the fact that the councilor was willing to grace his village.

Calista didn’t have any qualms with this man. He had helped her greatly to get the annulment, so hosting him wouldn’t be a problem.

"Sure, I can host him. You can pass the message that the day after tomorrow is fine. I will prepare him a banquet!" Calista replied, Ba Susan.

The man nodded, acknowledging Calista. "I will pass the message tomorrow. This way, he can be prepared."

Calista didn’t know what the other person wanted from her. She could only learn once they sat together and talked. Besides, having an official backing her up wasn’t actually a bad thing.

As long as the other doesn’t reach into her coffers and use her, then she can work with the other without any issues.

After getting what he wanted, Ba Susan repeatedly told Calista to be careful. After all, despite her reassurance that everything would be fine, his heart wasn’t at ease.

With all that said and done, he left Calista’s home.

Later that evening, Ian, who finished his evening class, came to find Calista. He had heard about the news about the wounded lady, so he was worried.

It was only after seeing that Calista was doing fine that he was at ease.

With how shaken he was, he felt too shy to linger for long, so after a brief chat, he flew for his life, making Calista chuckle helplessly.

’How cute!’

It was unfortunate that her heart had turned a bit cold after everything.

Besides, even if it wasn’t cold. If she were to mess with another man, would she become a legend?

She didn’t dare risk her reputation for another man.

The main reason why she got married in the first place was to sire an offspring. Now that she has one, why should she be tied to a marriage?
