Chapter 135: Chapter 135: TALENT ALL OVER 2

After exchanging pleasantries, Calista who hated beating around the bush and wasting time, decided to go straight at it.

"Thank you, everyone, for coming on such short notice!" she first thanked everyone who came, after all, just like they needed her to earn money, she needed them to get what she wanted.

"I called everyone here to discuss a few matters related to your professions. Due to a lack of manpower from the artisans that I am working with at the moment, I am seeking help from some of you!" without hiding the truth, Calista kindly informed them.

She didn’t want these people to think that wasn’t satisfied with her local carpenters, which was why she was giving them jobs.

The artisans, on the other hand, were simply excited, as hearing that from her gave them affirmation that some of them might end up leaving here with a job to do and help the family tidy up some troubles in the future.

"I mostly want carpenters. I have a lot of work that needs to be done in a short period, hence all of you coming in great numbers."

The local carpenter was currently working on the dorms’ furniture. Which was actually a lot of work for him.

There were two dorms, each dorm had two floors, and each floor had ten big rooms.

Each room could accommodate eight people, and that meant that eight sets of furniture were needed per room. If she let one local carpenter work on that, how long was it going to take?

Her local carpenters had earned a lot in this period, so having others eat a portion wouldn’t be too much.

At the moment, the local carpenter was still furnishing one floor and wasn’t done with it yet. So, progress was required.

If Diana gets what she wants early, that also means that the factory would have to be opened once that happens. If the dorms weren’t fully furnished by then, she would be doomed. And she didn’t want to see such a thing happening.

So, on this day, after tallying up the carpenters who she recognized their works or had Ba Susan vouch for them, she managed to get ten of them, which was a great number.

In total, the number of rooms she wanted to be dealt with was thirty, which meant two hundred and forty sets of furniture.

This meant that for each carpenter, she gave a deal of twenty-four sets of furniture. That was the bed and the cabinet to store clothes.

She gave them the draft of what she wanted. Since she wanted everything to be uniform, she didn’t want any carpenter to have a creative imagination, which would lead to everything becoming different.

That wasn’t all, as she also gave these carpenters other work as well. She wanted barrels, tables, chairs and other kind of furniture. She divided the numbers between the ten. Making every carpenter the same without favoring one over the other.

Of course, her local carpenter’s job was lucrative, as his rooms were still plenty. But a man can’t choose what he wants. So, they were quite happy with what they got.

Since they agreed, Calista signed an agreement with them, with their fingerprints and Calista’s stamp on the contracts. This way, if anything happens in the future, she would sue or be sued, and whoever does wrong first would suffer.

She also paid a deposit to them before turning to the other artisans she had invited.

With the lack of artisans such as potters and blacksmiths in her village, Calista was happy to see a few of them amongst the group.

After listening to them what they were good at, Calista signed another deal with them. From the blacksmiths, she wanted spoons, knives, and pots.

For the pots, she wanted the big ones, the cauldron types if they can make them. Since the dorms there will be many people, bigger pots were needed. Of course, other sizes were good as well, but the cauldron type was at the top of the list.

If their job satisfies her, she is going to see if she can make them make cans for making tinned stuff in the future.

With the potters, she wanted plates, cups, bowls, and clay pots. It wasn’t just ordinary earthenware, as she specifically pointed out what she wanted.

She wanted everything that was going to be used in her name to be different and to have markers. However, to be safe, she was going to look for an engraver. This way she could have at least one person to make that logo for her businesses.

By the time she was done with these artisans, Calista had to leave for a moment for her lunch break before returning.

In the third round, Calista found out that a majority of the women who didn’t fall under the pottery section were the handicraft masters who might play a huge role in the future.

At the moment, rather than saying that she was in urgent need of them, she would say that she needed them to make something for her.

Since she made the last workshop as handcrafts, having these ladies would save her a great deal.

So, after listing down what they could do, Calista didn’t hesitate to tell them what she wanted them to make for her now.

For basketry weavers, Calista wanted them to make small baskets, be they round or square. They should be neat and suitable to put at least a few things inside.

Of course, in this era, people barely used such small baskets. They weren’t practical and were a waste of time. But what did people know about aesthetics?

Besides, even if these ladies were reluctant, with the price she tagged for each basket, they hurriedly signed the contracts. They should bring at least twenty baskets when they come to collect their money. There was no deposit for them.

For those who could embroider, Calista made them make handkerchiefs for her with different designs for the first round. And since these embroiders were five, getting ten from each person wasn’t a big deal.
