Chapter 128: Chapter 128: I WILL HELP YOU

He felt uncomfortable. Very that he cursed these young ones baldly in his mind.

However, as he looked at the relaxed Calista, the child he had somehow watched growing up. After all, Calista was around the same age as Susan, despite being in her second marriage.

He still saw her as a daughter, a naughty one who had always loved causing trouble for him. Something that would never change.

Even now, she was still troubling him.

Ganging up on him with her friends, to force him to help her annul the marriage.

He understood as well why she was like this, but there had never been a case like this before.

How will people look at her?

It took over five years for people to stop pointing fingers at her because of her marriage to John, from Nicosa village, next door.

She suffered so much from people’s scorn despite grieving herself. So, when he heard that she was getting remarried, although she was shocked, he was still happy for her.

At least, she now has family and someone who will always be by her side.

The news which had been spreading, slandering her name, died down a bit and people were more concerned with her husband.

But that man didn’t linger around for two months before he vanished.

He also thought that he was going to return, although he had an inkling that it might not be the case. But he hoped and kept his fingers crossed.

Unfortunately, that prayer didn’t work at all. As Orson indeed left Calista.

If Calista were to remain married to Orson, that would be unfair. He didn’t want his child to be tied to such an irresponsible man who just packed up and left his spouse as if it was a normal thing to do.

At least, he should have divorced her if he didn’t love her. Leaving her while tied to a marriage, that was cruel and forcing her to never move on in life. How could he accept that?

At the same time, having Calista annul the marriage was very unexpected and something too bold, that none of the villagers had ever attempted it.

It’s not like it didn’t exist and none of the women or men had tried it before. It’s just that no one had such thick skin to request it. Because once you request it, you will be forced to air your family’s laundry. How could they agree to that?

However, Calista aired her dirty laundry to the whole village that night. That alone showed how determined she was about the whole situation.

Still, his heart ached, and he feared how people would look at her in the future. He didn’t want to see her suffering again.

But now, if he doesn’t help her, he might trigger Calista’s greatest rebellion stage. The kind that will affect everyone’s livelihood in the village. He couldn’t let that happen.

Stuck in a dilemma of preserving her name and the village, as a village chief, he finally made a choice and looked at Calista and exhaled a deep breath. "I will help you. You don’t have to do anything. I will make sure that you get your name untangled with his as soon as possible. I promise you!" his tone was very firm as he promised this.

Calista, hearing the words she had been itching to hear, beamed at the man she had caused too much trouble for but still couldn’t help but cause more and said, "Thank you, Uncle. I will surely reward you greatly for this!" very sincere with her words.

Ba Susan waved his hands in response. He felt too tired and just wanted a rest.

Rewards from Calista were at times too shocking. He didn’t dare look forward to what an angry pregnant woman might give him.

The others, seeing that Ba Susan had given in, all smiled gratefully at him, making the man’s temples throb.

Since it was late and the matter was discussed, all guests finally left Calista’s manor, leaving Calista and Mammy Lena.

With the guests gone, Mammy Lena escorted Calista who was very capable of walking on her two feet to her room where hot water had been prepared for her night bath.

Calista thanked Mammy Lena and took a quick warm bath and got rid of the day’s sweat and filth.

After getting out of the rub, the water was drained out through the special tube she had installed. The water would then be taken to a barrel buried underground. This barrel would be used to supply water to the orchard at the house shortly through an underground irrigation system she had been using at the treehouse.

Mammy Lena was there to help with the wet floor, something that Calista was getting used to seeing. Mammy Lena was very attentive and hard-working. She never complained, and some of the things she did were unheard of and yet very helpful.

So, every time the woman was by her side, she felt very grateful and a bit upset, thinking of the time when she would leave her one day.

Mammy Lena had written to her family when they were in Liresa City. It wasn’t certain when the reply would return.

She couldn’t help but be worried.

Fortunately, with a good night’s sleep, all worries for yesterday remained to that day as a new day started.

Feeling rejuvenated with most secrets out, at least those that can come out shortly and cause trouble, Calista was ready to get down to serious business.

The clinic was in order; the restaurant was doing pretty well and now what needed to be done was start the workshop as she informed the villagers.

Calista planned to start on this day. As soon as it starts, the sooner the villagers can learn something.

So, after having breakfast, she carried Whitey in her arms and stroked him as Mammy Lena glared at the feral cat hatefully and wished to remove it from her clutches.

Mammy Lena was afraid that Whitey’s fur might cause Calista harm, which was she was against Calista hugging or playing with Whitey.

But how could Calista listen to her on this matter? Anything might harm her, but Whitey and Blackey, those two would never do that ever.

Their lives were connected to hers. If she dies, they die as well.

With their connection and ties like that, how could such a thing happen between them?

So, she ignored Mammy Lena and happily played with her second son.

Just because she was going to have a human child didn’t mean that she should neglect her other children.

She advocates harmony in the family all the time.

Only when there is harmony in the family can peace reign.
