Chapter 127: ANNULING THE MARRIAGE

Chapter 127: Chapter 127: ANNULING THE MARRIAGE

Calista’s lips rose as Susan’s words clicked to mind.

How could Susan know her pretty well like that?

Seeing her smile, Susan panicked even further.

Her mother, seeing her acting like that, had an inkling that whatever Calista was planning to do was something that either hadn’t been done before, at least in their village and something that would make tongues wag.

What the heck was Calista planning?

Before she could ask, Calista beat her to it.

Looking at Ba Susan, Calista playfully tugged her lips as she asked, "Uncle, I want to annul my marriage. Is it possible?" startling the man that his beard shook in the process.

"You ....."

"Calista, you want to do what?" Ma Susan cried as she stood to her feet, shocked by Calista’s boldness.

Ignoring the over-the-top reactions of the couple, Calista nodded her head as she sat comfortably in her seat responding, "Um. He has been gone all this time. There has been no letter and I understand his intentions pretty well. There is no way I will remain married to a man who abandoned me!" shaking her head with disgust before continuing, "I don’t mind living as a divorcee. I can still get remarried in the future!" a playful smile returning to her face.

The people in the room hearing that all showed different expressions at the same time, despite being baffled by Calista’s outright boldness.

Susan clutched her head as she digested the words her friend had just said.

She should have known that this friend of hers was still crazy in the head. It’s only that she had curbed herself a bit ever since getting married.

Now with Orson gone, she was returning to her normal self and with this happening, it also meant that the future days were going to be noisy.

"I am not playing, Uncle. I am really serious about this. I can pay whatever needs to be paid to get rid of this marriage ahead of time. There is no way my child will carry that man’s child after everything he made me go through!" Calista vowed as she looked solemnly at Ba Susan.

Ba Susan opened his mouth to respond, "You_" but before he could say anything else, someone else cut him off.

"Uncle, since sis insists, then help her get rid of this marriage!" Diana said urgingly, looking imploringly at him.

She was also a woman and understood how painful it was to be tied to someone who doesn’t love you and it was even worse, a man who leaves you when you are pregnant and steals your money as well.

When Ba Susan was about to respond to Diana, one of Diana’s male friends, the quiet one among the four, joined in and said, "Sir. We haven’t known Madam Solace for a long time, but we all can see that she is a good person. A great person who has so much love for the surrounding people. If she didn’t have that kind of heart, all these projects she is doing now wouldn’t be in existence."

Hearing that, Ba Susan nodded, acknowledging the truth in those words.

"Don’t you think that such a kind- and big-hearted person deserves to be loved as well?" the man continued, his gaze shifting between Ba Susan and Calista.

Calista, who had barely talked with Diana’s friends, was in a state of stupor, completely taken aback by this person’s participation.

Among the four male guests, he was the quiet one. The one who didn’t like talking much. It was as if he didn’t exist, so when she heard him talking, she was surprised.

His voice was truly amazing, a bit deep and the kind that would always send waves in one’s heart and mind.

He was articulate when speaking, his manner calm and not rushed. And he made those who were listening to just be at ease when doing so.

Unconsciously, one would even find himself or herself getting convinced for no reason.

While she was thinking about that, another gentleman joined in the pleading game.

"Sir, don’t let customs or fear of stigma keep Madam Solace tied in a prison that would make her sad."

Seeing the topic going astray, Diana smiled slyly as she added a sentence of her own, "Imagine if she isn’t happy and then decides to halt all projects or even leave the village. Imagine how much trouble the village will be in. More or so, you as the village chief. Have you thought about it?" her remarks were very suggestive and provoking.

Surely upon hearing that, Ba Susan panicked that he unknowingly found himself looking at Calista.

On the other hand, Calista applauded Diana for being scheming and too good with words. With that, she managed to instill fear in the man whom she knew that despite everything she had done, he still believed in the old ways.

If she was his daughter, she didn’t dare think what he would have done to her by now. Of course, he loosens up when Susan brought the idea of the son-in-law which wasn’t unusual and out of the norm.

There were plenty of people out there who had married into their wives’ families, so it wasn’t anything special.

On the other hand, there were few cases of women annulling their marriages. They can wait to be divorced or become widows. Either of the two and no third option.

But could Calista wait?

She didn’t even know if Orson’s name was his real name or not.

If it was the modern world, she would probably find him after doing some searching. But this was the ancient era, with no technology and everything was written on hand. The records were even difficult to find. A person just needed to forge documents and move around with a document tag, which can also be forged.

She also did it, so why can’t others do it as well?

"Uncle, Diana’s words somehow match with my mood. Hehe," suddenly she said, supporting Diana’s words with a chuckle. While ignoring Ba Susan’s shocked expression upon hearing her expressing that, she added, "You know I am pregnant as well. And we happen to have moods. If I really get pissed off, trust me, uncle, I can surely stop everything or pack my bags and go!"

"Cali, you ...."

"This is actually not a threat but a fact!" cutting Ba Susan again she declared. "I told myself that I will always live happily. I might trip and fall at times, but that doesn’t mean that I will remain on the ground forever. I will rise once again and stand tall like I have always done. So, Uncle, please, don’t let me .... No, don’t force me to live in a way that I don’t like," she said to him, imploring and her gaze earnest.
