Chapter 118: Chapter 118: STOP WHINING!

"Ahhhh! Friend, don’t go anywhere ever again! You don’t know how much I suffered!"

"Can you believe these people? Sniffle .... Sniffle .... If you hadn’t arrived today, I was going to close the restaurant."

Calista rubbed her ears as Susan’s lamentation, cries and complaints kept on pouring into her ears.

She hadn’t seen the other in like three weeks, and yet she had become so whiny like this. Was it really that stressful?

Looking at Susan who looked as if she would cry tears of blood at any time if she didn’t say a word, Calista held the other’s hands tightly forcing Susan to stop for a while, sniffing like a wronged child, making Calista feel speechless.

Since when was Susan so scheming like this?

Feeling a headache coming, Calista took a deep breath as she chanted a mantra in her head for a moment before saying, "I am back now. So, stop whining!" her tone was a bit overbearing.

Susan rolled her eyes at Calista as her expression changed at a fast rate that one would have thought that they had seen wrongly a moment ago.

Seeing that face changing faster than a chameleon changes its colors, Calista glared at Susan accusatorily. How dare she fool her like this?

Susan’s lips curled upward into a smirk upon seeing that accusatory glare from Calista.

Humph! Who made it so hard for her in these past weeks?

She was stressed every single moment she saw the barrels emptying and yet no news from Calista. And when she thought of the next few days, her hair nearly turned white with worry.

How could she just let Calista worry-free when she was like that?

"You ....." speechless at Susan’s antics, Calista said this word for a long time and yet didn’t manage to utter another word again.

Susan was truly ..... learning bad things.

And she liked it.

The reunion between friends was unique. It made Mammy Lena’s temples throb with pain with all the laughter she was forced to stifle.

Fortunately, Calista and Susan were very close and their bond was very strong. It didn’t take long before the two moved on and were busy chatting happily about other things.

"It’s good to see you back, honestly. I was about to go nuts because you weren’t here!" as they walked to the hill, with the carriages following, Susan said earnestly.

For the first time in a long time, she felt like she could breathe and that the heavy yoke which had unexpectedly landed on her shoulders was nowhere to be found.

Calista beamed at hearing that; she couldn’t help but turn her head to look at Susan. The more she looked at the other, the more she felt like spoiling her.

Susan had truly done the impossible and did a lot of wonderful things in her absence, which made her trust in the other soar.

It wasn’t an easy thing to leave a business to someone, even if that person was a friend she had known for more than five years.

When people mix business and pleasure, and then hire close friends and relatives to help with business, the outcome is usually obvious.

It was barely good.

However, she did exactly that. In this world, if she couldn’t at least trust Susan, who else could she trust?

Nevertheless, people do have reserves and tend to think much. In her case, she didn’t dare trust fully.

To her, as long as the restaurant is open and money is made, she would be grateful, sincerely. She wasn’t expecting anything more than what she had already achieved to happen when she was gone.

It was already a blessing to maintain what was already there. So, she didn’t have much hope for Susan and that was the truth that Susan would never get to know.

But who would have guessed that Susan would slap her big time in the face like that?

Not only did she manage to secure the previous customers, but pulled more in the process.

To think that the customers weren’t only from Silverbroke town, but there were others from another town, seven hours away from Cropville village.

It was a town which Calista barely visited. After all, she has more friends in Silverbroke town than the other. Why waste seven hours to go to a town when she could save two by going to Silverbroke?

And since Susan had done such a great job, Calista didn’t become stingy with her words and earnestly praised Susan.

When people do good, it is a must, to reward them. Only when people are rewarded, have their hard work acknowledged and have some verification to show their accomplishment can they be motivated to continue working hard.

That was another reason people were paid their salaries in the first place. Without the mention of salary, no one would be motivated to do any work. Even slaves still work hard just to have a meal at the end of the day.

That was their way of motivation as well.

Grabbing the swaying hand of Susan was an unexpected action which made Susan stiffen since she wasn’t expecting such a move from Calista. Calista ignored Susan’s reaction and said earnestly, "Thank you friend for holding onto the fort for long!" sincerity oozing from her eyes. "This wouldn’t have been impossible if it weren’t for you."

Hearing such words from Calista, Susan cringed. It was rare for Calista to say sweet words like that. After getting used to her sharp mouth, it just felt surreal that she was getting complimented and it made her heart thump wildly, her cheeks reddening, feeling shy with the whole thing.

Shying her gaze away from Calista, Susan whispered, "I was only doing my job!"

And hearing the other speaking quietly like that, Calista’s lips arched upwards, and she suddenly felt pretty good.

She managed to return a score to Susan. Who knew that the other could be this shy?

Nonetheless, Calista didn’t continue to tease Susan but simply changed the topic while continuing to hold the other’s hand.
