Chapter 116: COMPANY
Chapter 116: Chapter 116: COMPANY
Her meeting with Diana was unexpected. However, thanks to it, Calista’s company grew.
Diana abandoned the idea of speeding back home and decided to remain and accompany Calista. After all, this was the first time in years that she agreed to talk to her on such friendly terms.
Her friends didn’t oppose, after all, they were curious to know more about Calista. She was the first person who made Diana act reasonably like that. They wanted to dig more.
Calista didn’t mind that and let them accompany her. After all, it wasn’t every day that she got to be with people who resonated well with her.
Back in the village, she needed to explain herself for a long time, just portraying and conveying one thing. Without giving greater details as to why and how she wanted this done, she won’t be able to get anywhere.
However, Diana and her friends were different. So, she enjoyed the next few days leisurely.
On the day of departure, Calista sighed helplessly as she looked at the number of carriages lining up.
"You agreed. Don’t even think about it!" suddenly Diana frantically yelled, her tone anxious as she approached Calista, who was thinking about how troublesome this setup was.
Upon hearing Diana, who was like a tapeworm in her belly, her shoulders drooped lower as she started regretting her impulsiveness.
Yesterday, feeling a bit too jovial after a full meal, Diana coaxingly asked if she could tag along to her home village.
Calista wanted to refuse but when Diana said, "sister, we can help you teach your villagers. We are quite knowledgeable, so you won’t have to do a lot by yourself!"
How could she not be tempted?
Thinking about how she didn’t end up finding teachers to go back with her but just books. And how she was planning on teaching them the best she could, Diana’s tempting offer came at the right time. So she agreed.
However, her agreeing and seeing this situation in person made her regret a bit.
Just how many people were Diana bringing along for the carriage lineup to be that long?
"Did I say otherwise?" Calista getting a headache at counting the carriage, scoffed before trotting towards Mammy Lena, who was stifling her laughter while watching the drama between the two of them.
Diana beamed and didn’t retort and happily watched as Calista was helped to board the low-key carriage, which she was certain was luxurious inside.
After watching her board, she turned to look at the string of carriages belonging to her people and smiled satisfyingly.
Meanwhile, inside the carriage, Mammy Lena was massaging Calista’s head as she continued to spill out regretful sighs.
"Miss, it’s already too late to regret now!" Mammy Lena reminded, as a smile playfully hung on her lips.
Feeling frustrated at the truth of that statement, Calista responded, "That’s why I regret it. If I had known that her company wasn’t just three carriages but more than ten, I wouldn’t have been tempted!"
Mammy Lena helplessly shook her head as she found Calista’s temper to be more and more similar to her mistress. They were both hilarious, easy to give in and then regret it a moment later for silly reasons.
"But Miss, we are still gaining in this matter if you look at it positively!" Mammy Lena shook her thoughts away and tried to reason with Calista.
However, how couldn’t Calista see that as well?
"At most, if it was ten people, I would be fine, but how many people do I have to accommodate? Where the heck am I going to place them?" this was the main reason why she was having a headache.
She didn’t mind feeding them. She never lacks food at all. That was probably the reason why she had been receiving free money for over a decade. At least it can be used in such a case. But what about accommodation?
She couldn’t accommodate anyone in her treehouse at all. The restaurant was out of bounds. Maybe the clinic, but she was planning on letting the young woman and her mother stay there. The slaves she bought, can sleep in the treehouse, but these nobles, where can she put them?
Upon hearing her Miss’s worry, Mammy Lena finally found out why she was acting like that and realized that her eyes light up. "Miss, have you forgotten that the dorms should be ready by the time we return? Wasn’t that the reason why we purchased some of the furniture and had some of it made when we left?"
Surely upon hearing that, Calista’s downcast expression vanished, replaced by a bright one. "Damn! You should have reminded me about that before!" her words completely baffled Mammy Lena.
’How will I know if you don’t say it out loud?’ unfortunately, Mammy Lena could only think like this but not dare say it out loud.
Pregnant women were one of the most unreasonable people in the world. So, she could only keep her mouth shut and continued to massage.
If she answered and then her mind settled, who knows what drama she would be drawn into then?
With Diana’s fifteen carriages and Calista’s five, the twenty carriages went on the move, attracting too much attention as they moved.
However, seeing the red spider insignia, those with thoughts quickly doused them and pretended to never have thought of such crazy ideas and let the carriages go.
Calista’s carriages were filled with the big items which she bought in Liresa city this time, while the other things which weren’t that attention-seeking were stashed in the storage ring. Two of the carriages were carrying passengers and little luggage.
One was for her and Mammy Lena and the other carried the five slaves she had bought in Liresa. The remaining three carried the luggage.
As for Diana’s carriages, she didn’t know, and she didn’t want to ask. However, since Diana was a merchant, she probably was carrying goods to sell. She couldn’t help but be curious again.
The journey back home was interesting and entertaining. They weren’t in a hurry and took their time. Since Calista was pregnant, taking adequate rest was encouraged, though the other people had no clue as to why Calista was so insistent.
However, since Calista was the guest, no one dared cause trouble and simply went with the flow.
When they were resting, Calista would sit down with Diana and her friends and talk about a lot of things before resuming the journey. And this happened frequently until they reached Silverbroke town.
With home being only a few hours away, Calista wanted to take a rest in town, but which inn could accommodate so many people at once?
In the end, after seeing Faith for an hour and giving her the presents she bought for her, the journey continued. Besides, she received good news when she was buying some food at a street stall.
She happened to meet one of the masons working on the dorms and he told her that the dorms were completed, so the accommodation issue she was having trouble with was settled.
She would just have to work with these people tirelessly for a while. Since they want a place to sleep, then they would have to work even if they didn’t want to.
Who would want to sleep outside for weeks?
