Chapter 113: AN ACQUAINTANCE
Chapter 113: Chapter 113: AN ACQUAINTANCE
It wasn’t all about playing house or games that made them grow. She didn’t want her child to grow up muddleheaded. Her child should grow up intelligent and can be groomed from an early age.
Teach the kids something funny, and let them listen to funny stories that are meaningful and where they can learn something rather than learn to be bullies and unruly. That would be very bad.
Thinking about this sudden idea, Calista felt proud that if she had feathers, she would be ruffling them right now.
After the meal, the friends returned to the manor, and another day passed peacefully and productively.
The next day, Calista was taking a nap in the afternoon when she was summoned by Leeshay informing her that she had guests.
As she walked there at a steady pace, she couldn’t help but wonder who was looking for her. She didn’t have a lot of friends in Liresa City, otherwise she would have visited them all by now.
Still, curiosity killed a cat, so she went ahead to check for herself. And when she walked into the reception hall where the guests were being entertained, her lips twitched furiously as she looked at the young maiden currently sitting on the mat obediently.
’I should have read my horoscope today!’ she lamented, as she forced her legs to walk forward as her heart thumped.
As soon as Calista arrived, Leeshay and the guests immediately saw her. Although she had been napping, when she heard that she had guests, Calista dolled herself prettily.
Wearing a baby pink skirt and a white blouse, Calista looked delicate and younger than her age. Despite wearing no make-up and with minimum jewels on her person, she looked divine and just the way she liked it.
Leeshay’s lips twitched for a second, dumbfounded by how different a person can look in a day. What happened to the dark outfit Calista was wearing a while ago?
Never mind, she looks better this way, anyway.
Smiling after recovering from her shock, Leeshay enthusiastically said, "Dear friend, why didn’t you tell me that you know Miss Diana?" her tone was reproachful.
Calista rolled her eyes without a bother to hide as a scoff escaped her lips, approaching the seat which had been prepared for her, making Leeshay cough a bit, startled by Calista’s sudden directness.
’Can this one give me some face?’ Leeshay wanted to cry, but how could she do so and lose face?
While she was lamenting over Calista’s rudeness, the guest, Miss Diana, suddenly broke into a hearty laughter, her eyes squinting into crescents startling Leeshay who wasn’t expecting such a sudden reaction.
"Haha, this is surely Calista. For a few days, I even thought I was seeing the wrong person!" the once obedient Miss changed tone and vibe in a second, making Leeshay inwardly rub her eyes to see if she was dreaming or not.
Calista sat on the cushioned mat and sneered as she looked at Miss Diana, her lips raised in a smirk, and asked, "What are you doing here?" her gaze scanning the other solemnly.
Diana didn’t feel offended by how rude Calista sounded but became happier upon seeing that she was willing to talk to her this time.
Scratching her forehead with a sheepish smile, Diana responded without delay, "I was on my way home and thought of stopping here for a day but who would have guessed that I would spot you?" her tone surprised by the sudden turn of events. "Calista _"
Calista’s gaze suddenly turned cold as she glared at Diana and reprimanded her right there. "How many times have I told you to call me by my proper title?" without caring for the glares she was earning from the other people Diana brought with her.
Calista’s reprimand wasn’t low but very loud, and it startled everyone in the hall. Leeshay, who had never seen this side of Calista, didn’t know how to deal with this situation.
Should she support her friend or Miss Diana?
Miss Diana was not a pushover or a lowly person. Although she hadn’t interacted much with her, Leeshay knew that the other was powerful. She wasn’t from Liresa City but from a city called Altville, a week or so away from Liresa City.
Miss Diana’s family was a merchant one, so she was mostly on the road, which was something that made Leeshay know her. There were a few women who could do that, so she was memorable.
With Calista reprimanding such a person, a person who can make a family go bankrupt with just a word, what measures should she take to minimize the offense?
However, as she was thinking about this, her palms sweaty and temples throbbing, Miss Diana suddenly broke into a sheepish grin, which startled even the friends who were about to scold Calista for being disrespectful.
"Haha, Madam Calista, come on! Didn’t we agree that we would be sisters? Why do I have to call you madam and make you be on the same level as my mother?"
Hearing Diana saying something like that, even in a coquettish manner, the friends were dumbfounded.
Was this the Diana that they knew or she had been switched without them knowing?
Calista, however, harrumphed at Diana, raising her pointed chin at Diana, her demeanor unyielding.
Diana, seeing that pouted sulkily, saying, "Fine, I will call you Madam then. You haven’t forgiven me for that until now?" her tone was imploring.
Hearing such words from Diana, Calista fumed as she glared at Diana and before knowing it, her mouth was at it again.
"Diana, do you think that a sorry will just cut it? Do you know what wrong you did and why I am even angry in the first place?"
"I ...."
"You are not a child, for crying out loud. Do you know that if I didn’t arrive in time, something major might have happened?"
"I ....."
"That was a life, but you took everything like a joke!" Calista felt exasperated as she said this.
She couldn’t help but recall her first meeting with Diana if excluding this one.
