Chapter 98: You Bloodsucker!

Mr. Bennet came to a stop. He looked over his shoulder at Aedion. "Aedion, my boy, evidence is always in the least expected places. A culprit will always leave at least one tiny piece of evidence behind. It could be anything, you never know. You have to be very patient and careful to find or figure it out."

"And don’t forget, we are dealing with Draven Delgaard here. I want to...beat him."

"What?" Aedion was taken aback. "Wait, sir Bennet, you took this job because of him? Because you wanted to beat—"

"Isn’t that obvious?" Mr. Bennet turned to look at him. "You think I would be interested in some measly bombing case?" His right brow was raised.

He took a step closer to Aedion.

"I once met him when he was a kid, and what I saw in him, I don’t think anyone else has. This distant glint in his eyes piqued my interest. He is a monster, but not in a beastly way. Pfft, the royal family does not know who they are dealing with."

Mr. Bennet turned around and continued his walk.

"They think they have him in the palms of their hands, but honestly, it looks the opposite to me." His smirk was willful.

Aedion did not say a word, but his face held a look of surprise.

Mr. Bennet sat down in the passenger seat of his car. Aedion, who was seated in the driver’s seat, started the engine and drove off onto the road.

They sped for a few minutes, and upon arrival at their destination, Aedion slowed down.

He turned the steering wheel and drove into the estate ground. Mr. Bennet pushed the door open as the engine was turned off. He stepped down and exhaled deeply, his hands stuffed into his pocket.

"Let’s go," he said to Aedion.

Aedion locked the car and hurried after him. They strolled the estate grounds, and unable to find anything, Mr. Bennet came to a halt.

"Hmm..." His eyes were narrowed into a thin line.

Aedion, who stood beside him, was side-eyeing him, restraining the urge to say: I told you!

"Spit it. I know you want to say it." Mr. Bennet didn’t need to look at him. He already knew what he had in mind.

Aedion faced him with folded arms. "I told you, sir Bennet, we won’t find anything. This estate has been reduced to ashes, it would be nothing short of a miracle if we could find any evidence here."

"But you are wrong, Aedion," Mr. Bennet said. "In every investigation you do, at the end of it, your first piece of evidence will most definitely have something to do with the area where the crime was committed. This is to say, the hardest piece of evidence is right here. If not on this estate ground, it has to be somewhere around the area close to this ground."

"Right there!" He pointed a bit away from where they stood. An area completely off the estate grounds.

Aedion frowned. "Huh? How do you know that?"

"An investigator’s instinct." Mr. Bennet smirked. "Follow me."

They made their way over to the area. Mr. Bennet ceased walking. He looked around while constantly tapping his fingers on his thigh.

"Sir Bennet, there is nothing he—"

"Will you have some fucking patience, Aedion? You are getting on my nerves." Mr. Bennet scowled.

Aedion’s eyes twitched in annoyance. "Patience? Seriously? Sir Bennet, you understand that I have to see my wife and—"

"Your wife will have to wait." Mr. Bennet shrugged, unbothered.

Aedion contracted his sharp fingers, the urge to strangle Mr. Bennet overwhelming him. "Of course, I don’t blame you! You are a bachelor after all—"

"Bingo!" Mr. Bennet snapped his fingers, shutting Aedion up. "Found it!"

"Found what? Where?" Aedion asked.

Mr. Bennet pointed a bit far, where there was a pothole. "Right there."

He began to advance toward the pothole. Aedion was a bit confused, so he followed after him.

Upon arrival, Mr. Bennet squatted down and stared into the pothole. He could glimpse the gray bag dumped right in the center.

"What is..." Aedion appeared quite surprised. Mr. Bennet was right after all.

"My gloves," Mr. Bennet requested.

Aedion quickly gave them to him. Mr. Bennet slipped his hands into the gloves and grabbed the bag. He hauled it out of the pothole and dropped it on the ground.

Aedion watched as he unzipped the bag. Inside, they could see a bazooka gun and gloves.

"Now what do we have here?" Mr. Bennet pulled the bazooka gun out. He shoved the gloves into a plastic bag, wrapped it up, and handed it over to Aedion.

Then he went ahead to examine the bazooka.

"Hmm...something is not right."

"Huh? What’s wrong?" Aedion asked.

"Well..." Mr. Bennet glanced over at the bombed-down estate. "I believe this was used to bomb down the estate, but for some reason, this gun appears to have yet been fired. I can’t see any sign of it having been fired."

This left Aedion puzzled. He squatted down beside Mr. Bennet and looked at the bazooka.

"Hmm...you’re right. Could it have been cleaned?" he wondered.

Mr. Bennet crumpled his brows. "I’m not sure. Let’s take it back first."

Aedion took the bazooka from him and left for the car.

Mr. Bennet stood up. He took his gloves off and turned around to leave, but something abruptly caught his attention, causing him to halt. He bent and picked up the object, which was a button—a round, pretty big-sized button. He could instantly tell that it was from a coat, but what caught his interest was the pattern of the button. It was only owned and used by the royals.

"Oh...a fish. I’ve caught one." Mr. Bennet smirked and stuffed the button into his pocket.

He strolled back to the car, got in, and left to return to his house.

Buzz! Buzz! Buzz!

Draven, who couldn’t stand the sound as he was a light sleeper unlike Avelina, blinked his eyes open.

Above his face, a mosquito was buzzing in circles.

Draven’s right eye twitched. He was annoyed and unable to take the unbearable sound.

A deep breath fled his nose, and he clapped his hands together, intending to kill the mosquito, but it luckily escaped.

"You bloodsucker!" Draven groaned.
