Chapter 95: My Father?

Chapter 95: My Father?

Draven stood up to his feet with the violin and its bow in his hands. He tilted his head a bit in thought before taking a deep breath.

With an uncertain hand, he positioned the violin under his chin and rested the bow on the strings. He made his first draw across the strings, producing a soft, hesitant sound.

Avelina cupped her hands together in deep anticipation. Her sparkling eyes were fixated on him, and she was biting her lower lip.

Draven glanced at her and slowly shut his eyes. He made yet another draw across the strings. The first note emerged, hesitant and trembling, but as he continued to play, the initial hesitancy faded. His movements grew more certain.

The beautifully haunting melody of the violin filled the room, carrying a mix of nostalgia and sorrow.

Avelina was left in an instant trance.

With each stroke of the bow, Draven felt a peculiar sensation course through him. A haunting voice, one he hasn’t heard in ages, abruptly joined the haunting strains of the violin. This voice made his soul tremble. It was familiar and very well written deep within him—a voice he could never forget, even in death.

The voice was soft at first, barely audible, but as Draven played with increasing fervor, it grew in strength and clarity.

It was a voice he once knew so well—the voice of his mother. It felt as though her soul had been weaved into the music, adding to the sudden otherworldly dimension of the performance.

Avelina, who was watching him, suddenly felt a chill run down her spine. She trembled at the feelings and quickly wrapped her arms around her body. Why did she suddenly feel so cold? This eerie feeling—it felt like someone else was there with them.

She glanced around and jolted in fright the second the windows of the room began to clank, making noises. The curtains fluttered rapidly, and a heavy breeze blew in, washing over her body.

Avelina held her breath. She was more than afraid because the sudden change in the atmosphere was giving her a terrible feeling. It was making her stomach turn in fear. She felt nauseated.

"D-Draven..." she stuttered, but Draven was so immersed in playing that he couldn’t hear her calling his name.

As the mother’s singing grew, Avelina could swear that she had begun to hear the echoes of a beautifully haunting voice. It was singing according to the melody Draven was playing.

The sound carried an inexplicable power that made Santino, who was at the door, halt. Yes, Avelina was not going crazy because Santino could hear the voice as well.

"Lady Erawada..." He was entranced to the point that his body failed to move.

...

The windows to old master Lenort’s room burst open, and the curtains fluttered vigorously.

The ethereal song echoed through the walls and Old Master Lenort, who had a glass of wine in his hand, halted his step.

His eyes blinked rapidly, and his hand trembled so furiously that the glass of wine slipped from his fingers and fell to the floor, shattering into pieces.

He took steps back, and unable to bear the sound, he covered his ears, thinking he was hearing things. Constantly, he had been seeing Erawada’s face in his dreams, screaming, blaming, and wishing to hurt him.

But this was the first time he could vividly hear her voice while awake. No, it was impossible!

Old Master Lenort shook his head and looked around him. He could hear the sound of a violin. Where was it coming from?

Aware that there was only one person who played the violin in the royal mansion, Old Master Lenort’s face grew red in fury. With his hands balled in rage, he stormed out of his quarter and made his way toward Draven’s quarter.

There, he met Santino, who was still acting as though hypnotized. This made him even more enraged. Without a doubt, he knew that it was Draven playing that note.

He grabbed the handle of the door, pushed the door open, and stepped inside. On the floor, he met Avelina, whose face was buried in her knees with her hands covering her ears. She was shaking in fear.

On the other side, Draven, who was immersed in his playing, stood.

Old Master Lenort’s face contorted, and his eyes twitched. He stormed towards him, grabbed the bow from him, and broke it into two.

This caused Draven to instantly snap back into reality. He stared at Old Master Lenort, his eyes expressionless.

"Why did you break it?" he simply asked.

Old Master Lenort’s grip on the broken bow tightened, and he furiously threw it away.

"I have told you, I never want to hear you play in this house! Do you realize what you have done?" he yelled at him.

Draven frowned at him. "Meaning?"

"Listen here!" Old master stepped closer to him. "You are awful and your presence alone drives everyone insane, therefore, you should spare them the fear you instill in them. I don’t know what sort of devilish being you are, but you are definitely not like us. Stop it! I will not warn you again!"

He turned around and stormed out of the room.

Draven watched him slam the door shut. He was used to it. The old master may not have outrightly said it, but he knew what he was referring to.

"I am not a devil..." he said to himself and turned his head to look at Avelina. However, at the sight of Avelina, who was on the floor with her legs curled up to her chest and her face buried in her knees, he went quiet.

"Avelina!" He quickly rushed over to her and kneeled beside her. "Avelina, Avelina, are you okay? What is wrong with you?"

Draven shook her furiously, and Avelina lifted her head to look at him. Her eyes were widened in fright, and her pupils were twitching violently.

"Draven... D-Draven, I swear, I was hearing a voice. I am not lying." She shook her head at him.

Draven was bewildered. He could not understand what was going on.

"Avelina, what are you talking about? Whose voice did you hear? My father?"
