Chapter 87: Are You Mad?

Ryan gave a nod.

"Yes."

He then went ahead to elucidate, "This man is a very famous private investigator. He has agreed to do it but under one condition."

"What is it?" Old Master Lenort flipped to the next side of the paper in his hand and stamped on it.

Ryan looked over at Lumian before saying, "He wishes to have a meeting with you."

This statement had Old Master Lenort stopping what he was doing. He lifted his head and looked at Ryan.

"Meaning?"

Ryan let out a soft breath. "He said that he will not carry out this task if you do not grant him an audience with you."

Old Master Lenort was stunned for a moment. What sort of man was this? What even gave him the audacity to make such an absurd request?

"Who is this man?"

"He is Mr. Bennet Pons," Ryan replied.

"Bennet...Pons..." Old Master Lenort repeated the name before drawing his head back at the recollection of this man. Funny enough, this man had actually worked for him before things spiraled out of control between them.

"I cannot grant him such a request."

"But father!" Lumian stepped forward. "We all know that Draven is definitely guilty, but to be able to find him guilty, we need this man."

"Find another way," Old Master Lenort said.

Ryan shook his head. "Father, if we succeed with this, you will finally be able to get rid of him without anyone questioning you. I mean, we are aware that you have always wanted to get rid of him. This is a big chance."

"I agree." Lumian chirped in.

"I said no!" Old Master Lenort glared at them.

Ryan and Lumian frowned. "But father—"

"Get out!" Old Master Lenort immediately dismissed them.

Ryan and Lumian were helpless. No longer able to implore any further, they turned around and exited the room. The bodyguard shut the door.

A deep breath fled Old Master Lenort’s nose, and he proceeded to continue his paperwork, but he found himself unable to concentrate on anything. His mind was suddenly clouded with thoughts.

Annoyed, he stood up from his chair and walked out from behind the table. He began to move up and down with folded arms, deeply thinking.

"Bennet Pons..." From such little whispers, one could tell that what he had in mind was Mr. Bennet Pons.

After a little while of thinking deeply, Old Master Lenort approached the door. He ordered the bodyguard to call back Ryan and Lumian. The bodyguard did as he was told and returned in a few minutes with Ryan and Lumian, who had a light smile on their faces.

Without being told, they could already tell why their father was calling them back. He definitely has changed his mind!

They entered the room and shut the door behind them.

"Father, you called for us," Ryan said.

Old Master Lenort raised his eyes to look at them. He was once again seated and working on his papers as though he were not disturbed by some unknown thoughts.

"I have thought about it. You have my permission, bring him in tomorrow morning."

The smile on Ryan and Lumian’s faces broadened, and they bowed to him.

"Thank you, Father," Ryan said, very grateful. He would have loved to ask why in the morning, but he didn’t think it was necessary. His only happiness at that moment was the fact that his father finally gave his approval of the request.

He turned around and exited the room with Lumian. As the bodyguard shut the door behind them, Lumian smirked.

"Honestly, I don’t really care about the estate. I am just happy that the heavens are finally siding with us. Soon, we will be able to rid him of this mansion."

"Indeed, indeed." Ryan nodded in agreement and began to walk away. Lumian followed beside him.

——

Draven shut the book in his hand.

He stood up from his chair and walked over to Avelina, who was asleep on the bed. He squatted down beside her and tapped her on the forehead.

"Avelina..."

Avelina was fast asleep, therefore, she did not respond.

Draven looked at her plump cheeks and pulled on them. "Avelina! Avelina!"

"Ow..." Avelina slowly blinked her eyes open and met his gaze. She was a bit startled by how intently he was staring at her. It was as though he were piercing her soul.

"I have finished it," Draven said to her.

With sleepy eyes, Avelina proceeded to sit up on the bed. "Finished what?" she asked.

"The book you gave me," Draven replied. He handed the book over to her.

As Avelina received the book back, her gaze was fixed on him. "But I gave it to you yesterday. You must have enjoyed it, I see."

"I did." Draven nodded. "It was very nice, exempting some of the weird words he said to her. It made my face contort as I felt very uncomfortable."

Avelina, who could not hold her laughter at the sort of face he was making while recalling what he had read, burst into laughter. This left Draven very confused.

"What is funny?" he asked.

Avelina shook her head at him. "Nothing, ahahahaha, it’s just that, t-the way you phrased your words, oh my god, ahahaha."

"Oh, but I am being very serious. Some of them had me wondering how uncomfortable the girl was at the moment. Although it seemed she liked it." Draven shrugged.

Avelina cackled while nodding her head. "I agree. But that is the fun of it."

"Can I have another book?" Draven inquired.

The amused expression immediately vanished from Avelina’s face.

"You know, at this point, you should buy yourself some books."

"Are you mad?" Draven asked with his head tilted. He could glimpse her expression change.

Avelina shook her head. "No. But you seem to read more than I do now."

"You just read very slowly," Draven said with a straight face. He was very blunt with it.

A frown appeared on Avelina’s face and her eyes immediately twitched. "Ya! A good book is meant to be read slowly and comfortably in order to savor it."

"Is that so?" Draven thought about it before slowly nodding his head. "I see, I see."

He stood up to his feet and sat down on the one-man sofa close to the bed.

"Draven, I have thought about something," Avelina abruptly said.
