Chapter 86: Ridiculous Request?
Mr. Bennet’s smile widened. "Indeed, you are right. This does make it interesting. If he is the culprit, then this case will not be easy at all. Haha! Just what I am looking for."
Nicolas cackled at himself as though proud.
"Should I let the first prince know then that you will be willing to take the job?"
"Yes, however, they will have to make an appointment with me and invite me to the royal mansion. I like to speak with the king myself," Mr. Bennet Pons said with an arrogant look on his face.
Nicolas blinked his eyes.
"Uncle, don’t you think that’s a bit too much? I am not sure if his majesty will be willing to—"
"If they are not willing to make an appointment with me, forget it. This case may be interesting, but I am not cheap either." Mr. Bennet waved his hand, dismissing him.
Nicolas was a bit hesitant. He slowly stood up from the chair, and with one last look at Mr. Bennet Pons, he exited the hall. Aedion, who stood by the side, shut the door.
—
Outside the gate of the royal mansion, Ryan stood opposite Nicolas, who had a stressed expression.
"What do you mean by that? A meeting with my father? Who does he think he is?" Ryan asked in a very vexed tone.
Nicolas balled his hands into a tight fist. He knew that this would be Ryan’s reaction, but he still wanted to try and see if he would agree.
"He said he will not take the job if he is not granted a visitation by his majesty," he explained. "Listen, your highness, I know that his request is daring, but he is the only one that I know who can help you with this."
Ryan stared at him in disbelief. He pinched between his brows, heavily displeased. "I already don’t like this Mr. Bennet Pons, but... I will see what I can do. I will have a conversation with my father and try to convince him."
Nicolas smiled.
"That is a great decision, your highness." With a slight bow, he turned around and left.
Ryan returned to the mansion. He began to walk up and down, subtle in thought.
Lumian, who had strolled out of his quarter, halted at the sight of him. He frowned, not able to comprehend why he was pacing back and forth.
With his arms folded, he walked over to Ryan and tapped him on the shoulder. "Are you okay? Why are you moving from left to right?"
Ryan turned and looked at him.
"You will not understand."
"Understand what?" Lumian raised his brow at him. "What is going on?" he asked.
Ryan let out a deep breath before proceeding to explain.
"I found someone that can help with this bombing case."
Lumian was a bit surprised. "Who?"
"Mr. Bennet Pons," Ryan responded.
Lumian scrunched his brows. "I know him. He’s not bad. He might actually be able to do it."
Ryan nodded at him.
"There is no doubt about that, but I just don’t know what to do about his ridiculous request."
"Huh? Ridiculous request? Did he ask for something other than payment?" Lumian probed.
Ryan responded with a nod. "He did. He wants to meet our father."
Lumian was stunned for a few moments before frowning deeply.
"That is such an absurd request. Who does he think he is? No way will Father agree to this." He shook his head.
"I am aware of that, and that is why I don’t know what to do," Ryan said. "I know that the request is farcical, but I don’t know anyone else who can do this."
"Lumian, you and I both know Draven. Left for us, we will not be able to fish him out. We need to find someone who can figure him out, and the only person who can do it is Bennet Pons."
"I did not want to come to this conclusion as this Mr. Bennet is obnoxiously audacious, but I had no other choice. It’s a truth that I cannot overlook."
Lumian deeply glowered. Ryan’s words were true, but still, their father definitely won’t agree.
"Lumian, listen." Ryan grabbed his shoulders and gazed at him. "We have to convince our father. Imagine if he fishes that bastard out, do you know what it means? He will be gone!"
"Father might even take this opportunity to kill him once and for all. Isn’t it something that we have always wanted?" he inquired.
Lumian thought seriously about it before exhaling.
"I know. I just... I just don’t know if our father will agree."
"Let’s give it a shot first, hmm? You and I," Ryan suggested.
Although Lumian was not willing, his older brother’s pressure was not giving him the chance to say no.
"Fine. Let’s give it a shot," he agreed.
A big smile immediately plastered itself on Ryan’s face. Together, they left for their father’s quarters.
...
Upon their arrival, the bodyguards, who stood in front of the double door, slightly bowed to them.
"Inform him," Ryan said to the bodyguards.
The bodyguards, without question, did as they were told and announced their presence to their father.
"Let them in?" Old Master Lenort’s voice was not loud but audible.
The bodyguards pushed the door open, and Ryan and Lumian stepped inside. The door closed behind them.
"Bonsoir, père," they greeted in unison.
Old Master Lenort, who was going through some documents on his table, did not look at them.
"What is the matter? Be fast with it, I am busy with paperwork."
Ryan and Lumian glanced at each other. Ryan cleared his throat and stepped forward.
"There is something that we wish to discuss with you, Father," he said.
"And what might that be?" Old Master Lenort asked, his focus fixed on what he was doing.
Ryan proceeded to explain. "It is concerning the investigation of the estate."
"What about it?" Old Master Lenort inquired.
"I have found someone who will be able to find the culprit," Ryan continued.
"Oh." Old Master Lenort was a bit surprised. "That is good. Is there a problem?"
