Chapter 84: Why Would We Be Afraid Of Him?
But surely Draven wouldn’t allow anyone to hurt his younger brother, right? I mean, they are aware that he doesn’t really dislike Valentine, and neither has he done anything that could warrant letting him get hurt.
"Gosh, why am I even worrying about him?" Olive muttered to himself, annoyed.
He moved over to sit down on a sofa, but at the sound of Prince’s voice, he halted.
He must be back! Olive quickly left his room and proceeded downstairs.
At the meeting table, they were all seated, including Prince, whose expression didn’t look too good.
"Is...something wrong?" Olive probed.
Loui turned his head to glance at him. "Prince seems to have found something amiss."
"Amiss?" Olive shifted his attention to Prince.
"Qui." Prince nodded.
Pierre asked, "What is it?"
"Prince Ryan, a mentionné quelqu’un Bennet Pons," Prince responded.
Loui immediately frowned. "Bernard Pons?"
"Qui. II est détective," Prince clarified with a nod.
Now, everyone was starting to get confused.
"Why would Prince Ryan want to hire an investigator? Don’t tell me..." Ava’s brows were wrinkled.
Loui furiously blinked his eyes and immediately stood up from his seat. Everyone’s attention shifted to him.
"Loui, what’s wrong?" Olive asked.
"I know what he is about to do. Bennet Pons is a popular investigator. He is an old man, and I even met him when I was a kid. This man has never failed a job, not a single one!"
"If Prince Ryan succeeds in hiring him, you are done for Olive! There is no freaking way you will be able to escape his claws. He will search, and he will find you!"
Everyone was silent, dumbstruck. For Loui to speak of a man in this way, how beastly was this man?
Olive blinked his eyes. He was speechless and could not utter a single word. Not just him, but everyone could hear the fear in Loui’s voice.
Pierre scrunched his forehead and proceeded to speak, "Loui, I think you need to—"
"I am calling Don." Loui cut him off and walked away to make a phone call.
Everyone glanced at each other and exhaled a deep breath at the same time.
"What should we do?" Ava asked. "Should we wait for Loui to talk to Don?"
"Obviously. It’s not like we can do anything on our own. Don is our brain here," Lucien, who had been quiet all the while, said.
Pierre nodded. "I agree. Let’s wait and see what Don has to say."
Then he directed his gaze to Olive. "Relax a bit. I am sure that Don would never have given you that task if something was going to go wrong. Let’s hear what he has to say first, yeah?"
"I am fine." Olive gave a nod.
....
Loui moved up and down while continually dialing Draven’s number.
He has called him several times, but Draven was not picking up. Could he be busy? But now was really not the time!
He decided to try one more time, and luckily for him, Draven answered.
[Is there a problem, Loui? You have called me twenty-seven times]
"Yes, there is a problem, Don," Loui said.
[Hmmm, what is it?]
"Do you know a man named Bennet Pons?" Loui inquired.
[Bennet Pons... If my recollection is correct, he is a prominent investigator, is he not?]
"Yes, yes. Oh, god, you know him." Loui was heavily stressed out.
[What about him?]
"Don, Prince is back from his task, and he told us that something was amiss," Loui reported.
[Amiss?]
"Yes. Apparently, it seems that the stalker with whom I dealt has introduced Bennet Pons to your brother, the first prince. He is currently intending to hire him and have him deal with Olive’s case," Loui explained.
[Oh]
"Huh? J-just "Oh?" Loui was confused.
[It’s not a big deal. Everything will be fine. Just stick to the plan]
"But, Don, you are very aware of who this man is, are you not? He is not someone to be underestimated. Olive cannot escape—"
[You are absolutely right. He is not someone to underestimate, but he is also not someone to be feared. I drew this plan, therefore, a random Bennet Pons is not enough to ruin it. He is but a mere interference, Loui]
Loui was completely at a loss, for words. He no longer knew what to say. Not in his wildest dreams did he think that Draven would think too little of Bennet Pons.
[We will speak later, Loui. Tell everyone to be at ease and leave it to me, understood?]
Loui took a few moments to think before nodding and responding, "Yes, Don."
Draven hung up the call from the other side.
Loui was helpless. He expected more—he expected more words from Draven.
This was not enough! It was not enough to put everyone at ease.
He wanted more! Something that could calm everyone down.
Loui groaned a bit and turned around to walk back to the living room, where everyone was waiting for him.
Lucien was the first to ask, "What did Don say?"
Loui looked at her and let out a soft breath. "He said you should all be at ease."
Pierre and Ava glanced at each other.
"That’s it?" Ava asked.
Loui nodded. "Don does not seem to really think much of Bennet Pons."
"Oh..." Pierre did not sound surprised. "I kind of expected it."
Loui immediately frowned at him. "Aren’t you guys afraid?"
"Afraid of what?" Olive adjusted around to look at him.
Loui drew his head back. "Of Bennet—"
"Why would we be afraid of him?" Olive questioned.
"Sure, he is great and all, but is he really all that great? Better than Don?"
Loui did not know what to say. He glanced at the others to see that they were expecting an answer from him as well.
"Loui," Olive said, standing up and stepping closer to him. "Listen, I don’t know what sort of encounter you may have had with this Bennet of a man that makes you fear him like this, but he isn’t all that mighty."
