Chapter 63: Do You Feel Pain?
Chapter 63: Do You Feel Pain?
There on the bed, with his dark hair tousled all over, Draven lay with Avelina resting on top of him. He looked to be enjoying his sleep because not only were his wings unfurled, but his hands and legs were spread out as well, like a child having the greatest sleep of his or her life.
Santino knew his young master well, and his young master was not a bad sleeper. He always sleeps in one position like a corpse, to the point that even the bed appears very neat and fixed as though it has not been slept on. So, what he was looking at now was quite bizarre. He looked like a different person from the usual him.
"Wow..." Santino commented in a hushed tone.
Without uttering another word, he took a step back out of the room and slammed the door shut, his face still wielding a look of incredulity.
As Draven’s crimson eyes fluttered open due to the noise the door had made, he slowly became aware of the weight upon his chest. Nestled against him was Avelina, whose head was resting on his unbeating heart. Her ginger curls were spread all over his bare chest and torso.
With a slow, deliberate movement, he extended his arms to move, but at the sudden sight of his wings, his eyes broadened. He instantly went dormant in perplexity.
When did this happen? He squinted his eyes.
Draven gazed at Avelina, who was sound asleep on his chest. Her plump, light, reddish lips parted slightly as she breathed steadily and comfortably. Her body was warm, leaving him to feel the temperature of his cold body change.
The Vampires were mostly cold, so rarely did they feel any ounce of warmth.
Gently, Draven brushed off her tousled curls and tucked a few strands behind her ear. Then, hesitantly, he poked her forehead with the intention of waking her up. He could have pushed her off, but it would have been very rude of him to do that.
"A-avelina," he stuttered. No woman except his late wife has ever been this close to him, and it was rather making him feel nervous instead of uncomfortable as it should.
"Avelina, wake up." He pressed his finger against the center of her forehead and shook her head. He pulled her cheek next, but as gently as possible, as he had no intention of hurting her.
Avelina groaned in her sleep and slowly blinked her hazel-soft eyes open. She stared at the wall and tiredly pressed her hands against his chest to lift herself.
Her eyes met Draven’s perplexed gaze, and they instantly froze while never breaking eye contact with each other. Both of them clearly had no idea what was going on.
Avelina was the first to snap back to her senses. She immediately hurried off Draven’s body.
Draven, on the other hand, was puzzled, so he jolted along with her, not exactly sure of what could be going on.
"W-what is it? Why are you looking at me like that?"
Avelina scrutinized him up, down, and up again, her face wrinkled as though Draven had done something.
"W-w-what do you mean "what happened?"? How did we end up like that?" she asked, her voice quivering.
"I have not the slightest idea." Draven shook his head. "You are a very bad sleeper, so maybe that is why." He was gazing at her in a kneeling position.
Avelina responded, "I am not a very bad sleeper, maybe just a little bit, but! You should be the one to tell me." Her head was drawn back in vigilance.
Then, as though having thought of something, her pupils dramatically dilated. "Draven."
She shifted closer to him.
"What?" Draven’s pupils were filled with bewilderment.
"Do you..." Avelina was not sure how to put her thoughts into words.
Draven frowned at her. "What is it? What do you want to say?"
Avelina bit her lower lip. She thought about it and made up her mind to ask. "Did we do it?"
"Do what?" Draven appeared very puzzled.
Avelina awkwardly blinked her eyes. "You know...t-the thing that married couples do." Her cheeks were as red as a tomato.
"Oh..." Grasping an understanding of what she meant, Draven waved his hands at her. "Get down from the bed and walk."
Avelina crinkled her brows. "Why?"
"To confirm. Although I am very sure that is not possible, just to be sure, please walk," Draven replied.
Reluctantly, Avelina climbed down from the bed. She walked around the room and halted to look at Draven with a raised brow. "So..."
"Do you feel pain?" Draven asked.
"Huh?" Avelina tilted her head, baffled.
Draven pinched his forehead and specified his questions, "Do your legs tremble? Do you feel aches in between?"
"Eh...no." Avelina shook her head as she moved her legs. "I feel fine."
Draven immediately let out a soft breath of relief.
"We did not do anything, Avelina, because assuming we did, you would not be able to get out of bed today or maybe two," he casually explained, his eyes narrowing in thought.
Avelina looked terrified. "What?"
Why is he saying that with a straight face? She was internally shaking.
Draven shrugged. "You do not have to worry, Avelina, because, like I said before, I do not desire you. So relax."
Avelina awkwardly smiled and slightly nodded her head. She glanced around, and her eyes halted on his wings, which were still visible.
"Draven," she called.
"Hm? Is something wrong?" Draven inquired.
"No." Avelina shook her head. "But..your wings are out."
Draven immediately looked behind him, realizing that he hadn’t retracted them. He unfurled them and got up from the bed. Hurriedly, he left the bedroom for the bathroom, shutting the door behind him.
Avelina flickered her eyes, confused. Why did he hurry off like that?
...
Standing in front of the mirror at the sink, Draven gazed at his reflection.
Never, I mean, never, for once, has he slept so peacefully or felt that level of comfort while sleeping. Even his wings unfurled at the pleasure and warmth he felt from such a sleep. Just how much did he enjoy it?
The only time he has ever felt such comfort and warmth was with his mother, who would usually put him to sleep in her arms when he was a young boy.
He quickly splashed his face with water to stop himself from thinking and took long, deep breaths.
