Chapter 61: Avelina, Are You Okay?

Hesitantly, Draven strolled to the table and couldn’t help but notice the lit screen of her phone. She was in her call log, and her finger was pressed against his number.

Draven pulled his phone out of the pocket of his coat, a bit concerned about something. He glimpsed the screen only to realize that Avelina had called him not less than ten times.

He began to wonder. Why didn’t he hear it ringing?

Then he was suddenly hit by the realization that his phone was on vibration mode due to personal reasons. He was so occupied with his thoughts that he didn’t even notice it vibrating in the pocket of his coat.

Draven pinched between his brows and let out a soft breast. He kept the phone aside and squatted down to stare at Avelina’s sleeping face.

"Avelina," he called her name in a soft, almost hushed tone as he removed the curls that fell over her face.

But Avelina did not respond. Deciding to let her sleep some more, Draven stood to his feet and made his way into the bathroom to have his shower. He changed into his nightwear but left his upper body bare as usual.

He returned to the bedroom to see that Avelina was still sleeping. It was nearly seven in the morning, and usually, she would have woken up by that time.

Although, if he recalls correctly, she did mention to him on the phone that she was not able to get enough sleep. That could possibly be the reason.

Draven exhaled softly and stepped toward her. If she was going to sleep, she should at least sleep comfortably on the bed.

"Avelina," he poked her forehead to wake her up, but Avelina didn’t respond.

Left with no other choice, Draven carefully lifted her into his arms and moved to the bed. He gently laid her down, covered her with the duvet, and turned around to walk away, but he came to an abrupt stop the moment he felt his hand grabbed by a pair of slender fingers.

He turned his head and glanced at Avelina, whose eyes were open.

"You’re...awake. Did I wake you up?" he inquired with an apologetic look.

Avelina shook her head at him and asked, "Are you okay? Did I say something wrong to you?"

Draven was taken aback, failing to understand why she would think that.

"Why do you ask?" His brows were furrowed in curiosity.

Avelina let go of his hand. She sat up and shifted to the edge of the bed.

"Well, you hung up the call, and I tried calling back a few times, but you never answered."

"Oh..." Draven finally understood. "My phone was on vibration mode, so I had no idea you were calling. And I am sorry for hanging up. It was done subconsciously. I didn’t mean to," he explained.

Avelina nodded.

"I see. That’s a relief."

She then said, "So where did you go? You...said you would tell me when you return."

Draven revealed a self-deprecating smile.

He took a deep breath and proceeded to scoot into bed.

"Adjust a little bit."

Avelina quickly shifted and watched him get into the bed to sit down beside her. She stared at him with curiosity.

Draven let out a soft breath and said, "I went to see Loui and the others."

Avelina showed a bit of surprise. "Why? Did something happen?" she probed.

"No." Draven shook his head at her. "I went to meet them so that I could discuss my plan with them."

Plan? Avelina’s interest was immediately piqued, so she queried, "What plan?"

Draven answered with no hesitation, "I want to make Natasha cry." He was so casual with his words, which left Avelina a bit stunned.

"Cry? Why?" she asked with creased brows.

Draven brought his legs to his chest and wrapped his arms around them. He rested his head on his knee as though he were tired.

"Well, she messed with you," he said. "She framed you, tried to disgrace you in front of the family, and hit you too. I did not like it one bit, and it makes me feel irritated every time I think about it."

"So to get rid of that irritating feeling, I have to punish her and make her feel pain. I need her to cry and understand that she shouldn’t mess with things that belong to me."

"It’s like a little payback," he added.

Avelina was at an utter loss of words. She gazed at him and parted her lips to speak. "But, don’t you—"

"Avelina," Draven interrupted her with his lazily dropped eyes fixed on her. "An eye for an eye. You hurt those who hurt you and spare those who spare you, don’t you agree with me?"

Avelina batted her lashes and tilted her head to think. She took a deep breath and pursed her lips.

"You know, anyone would say it’s petty and would only make you the same as them, but... being petty is not always a bad thing. The thought of what she did irritates me too, so I totally agree with you. It won’t hurt to see her bawl her eyes out."

Then she probed, inquisitive, "How do you plan to do that, though?"

"To make her cry?" Draven raised his right brow at her.

Avelina gave a nod. "Yes."

"I want to bomb the estate my father gifted to her," Draven replied casually.

"Ye! B-bomb?" Avelina stuttered, a bit lost for a moment. "Estate. Isn’t that one of those extensive areas with a large house?" she queried.

"Yes," Draven affirmed. "That estate is the only expensive property she owns. I don’t like liars and you have no idea what could have happened had she successfully pinned the blame on you."

"It would have been an opportunity for my father to get rid of you. So since she accused you of stealing from her as well as almost murdering you, I believe it is only right that I take that much from her."

Avelina was in a temporary state of shock. She did not say a single word for a few seconds.

Seeing the look on her face, Draven was a bit concerned, so he asked, "Avelina, are you okay?"
