A Game Of Chess With A Vampire
Chapter 57: Shall I Reveal It?

Chapter 57: Shall I Reveal It?

Natasha was shocked to the core.

"Did you just threaten me? Did you just call me a bloody bitch?" She was more than infuriated, as that would be an understatement. Her pupils were dilated and she was trembling as though she could burst at that moment.

"Yes, I did," Avelina validated. "What will you do about it?" she teased, her smile stretching all the way to her eyes.

Natasha’s body shook uncontrollably, and she moved, about to react violently once again, but this time, Old Master Lenort grabbed her hand, stopping her.

"ENOUGH!" he shouted, completely fed up with their nonsense.

Then he looked at Draven. "What do you have to say? Your wife is guilty!"

Draven arched his brows.

"First of all, my wife is not guilty, and none of you have the right to accuse her. Your evidence is faulty."

"Secondly, this necklace isn’t worth so much. If she wanted it, all she had to do was ask, because I would be more than willing to buy as many as she desired. It would only cost a few million."

"Lastly, this necklace was found inside my drawer, meaning that I am the one who should be found guilty. My wife has no reason, even if she were insane, to hide stolen property in my drawer. I mean, I would see it, no? This is how faulty your witness’s statement is." He spared Laila a glance.

"Earlier, before we came for dinner, that necklace was not in there, which brings me to the conclusion that this necklace was implanted inside my drawer while we were all having dinner. To be precise, during the cleanup, the maids were having in my quarter,"

"So, whoever did it must have taken that opportunity to carry it out." He turned his attention to Natasha. "Would you like me to reveal the culprit? I can also tell you how she did it and give you evidence. Not one, but three pieces of evidence."

Natasha was not able to say a word. Laila, who stood beside her, was frightened to the core.

Draven took a step towards her. "Tell me, Natasha, do you think that I can’t afford a necklace, or perhaps you already have an idea of who the culprit is?"

"Shall I reveal it?" he queried.

Natasha gulped, heavily intimidated by him. His towering figure and the heartless glint in his red eyes were sending chills creeping down her spine. She found it impossible to utter a word.

Old master Lenort, who knew where this would go, stepped in between them.

"Since the necklace has been found, let this incident be forgotten." He glanced at Natasha. "I don’t want you making any further fuss about this."

Then he declared, "All of you are dismissed. Return to your quarters at once." He walked off.

Natasha’s hands balled into tight fists, and she glanced at Avelina in a menacing manner. Everyone strolled off to return to their respective quarters, not failing to discuss among themselves.

Draven and Avelina stepped into their room, and Avelina slammed the door shut, hinting at her displeasure.

Draven sat down on the sofa and glanced at her. "Are you angry?"

"I am!" Avelina did not hide her emotions. Her chest was rising and falling, indicating her level of dissatisfaction.

Draven let out a soft breath and stood up from the couch. He stepped towards her and gazed down at her.

Avelina squinted her eyes. "W-what?"

"Nothing. I just think you should relax," Draven said. "I told you that all you have to do is sit back and watch. Don’t let this eat you up."

Avelina fell silent for a moment before seizing up the opportunity to ask, "How did that necklace even get into this room? Do you know who did it? You sounded like you did back there."

Draven nodded his head.

"I do know who did it."

"Huh? Who?" Avelina was curious.

Draven answered, "The maid who stood beside Natasha."

Maid? Avelina couldn’t grasp the full picture, so she probed, "How do you know that?"

"She is not one of my maids," Draven replied briefly. "It may sound weird to you, but I know and have memorized each and every face that works in this mansion. I know their names as well as their roles."

"She does not work for me, and I am telling you she is the culprit because she was wearing a worker’s apron. It is stained and wet as well, which gave her away. She reeks of dirt, and there are specks of dust on her eyelashes. No cleaning was done in this royal family except in our quarter. Why? Because I ordered it and also have an idea of the faces I assigned to do the work."

"My accurate theory is that she thought I wouldn’t suspect a thing if she mixed herself with the maids to carry out the deed, which honestly was a good idea, but she failed to realize that I am an expert at memorizing and keeping static memories of things. Be it people or objects," he explained.

Avelina’s emotive eyes surfaced. What sort of creature was this standing before her? There was just so much packed into one person, and it made him way more dangerous than he should be.

Could this also be a reason why the old master appeared very cautious of him? What could really be the reason why the old master hated him and desired to eradicate him? This was a question she wanted an answer to.

Valentine was the same as Draven—born of a maid, but the old master wasn’t really hostile towards Valentine. So, why only Draven?

Is he really just a vampire or more than that? Avelina furiously shook her head to snap herself out of such a drifting thought.

To push the conversation forward, she probed, "What do you intend to do?"

Draven was silent for a few seconds. He did not answer her question but simply shrugged, saying, "You should get some sleep. I have somewhere that I have to go to."

Avelina frowned with mixed emotions. "You...don’t want to tell me?"
