Chapter 51: Can I At least Know Your Name?

Edward took a step closer to her, his intent gaze fixed on her.

"Come with me, beautiful. I will take care of you and also give you the freedom that was taken from you," he proposed.

Avelina was baffled. She couldn’t comprehend why he had suddenly made such a proposal or what was going on in his mind. First was the ceremony, and now this. What exactly does he want from her?

Avelina frowned.

"May I ask why you..." Her words faded into thin air the moment she felt a strong, familiar presence behind her.

"Draven," she whispered, able to feel his deadly stare weighing down on her. Her heart was skipping a beat and drumming in her ears.

Shit! Shit! He’s going to kill me! Avelina shut her eyes, very much aware that she had messed up. She gulped as she reached to touch her throat.

Slowly but steadily, she turned around. At the sight of Draven, who stood with his hands shoved into the pocket of his white coat, her soul nearly evaporated from her body.

His expression did not look nice at all, and the scariest part was that this man looked mad, disappointed, and calm at the same time. She couldn’t really tell what was going on in his mind. Could he be freshening up his plot on how to kill her as punishment?

"D-Draven, I can explain..." she stuttered, gravely afraid.

Draven advanced towards her. He stood beside her and shot a glance at Edward, who stood four feet away from them.

Edward, on the other hand, couldn’t care less. He shifted his attention to Avelina and asked, "So what do you say, beautiful?"

You are evil! Avelina was inundated with the urge to strangle him. He was making things worse than they already were.

She turned around to look at him.

As tempting as his offer was, her instincts just didn’t agree. What if he was not being honest? What if he was making this proposals just to get her, and once he did, she would be in deeper hell than she already was?

But, on the other hand, what if he was being honest with his offer? Although that doesn’t mean she would go with him. She belonged to Draven, and it was not like he would treat her any better than Draven already did.

Avelina weighed her reasons and took a long, deep breath.

"No, I cannot." She shook her head.

"This man..." She pointed at Draven. "...Is my husband, and he is standing beside me. It would be quite disrespectful of me to take another man’s hand right in front of him."

"Don’t get me wrong, though, I still wouldn’t go with you even if he wasn’t standing here with me. He is the only one I will be safe with, no one else," she explained with a soft smile plastered on her face.

Dumbfounded, Draven, and Edward peered at her.

Edward asked, "What?!"

He was beyond shocked.

Avelina nodded. "Mhm, you cannot have me, no matter how much you desire to. My husband is quite possessive. He will chop your hands into pieces of meat and bones." She mirrored chopping knives with her hands.

Edward squinted his eyes in disbelief and proceeded to say something, but he swallowed his words the second he saw Avelina shift closer to Draven and interlock her hand with his.

"Thank you for your proposal, Mr. Edward, but I kindly decline." She offered him a lovely smile.

Edward was momentarily stunned. He was heavily embarrassed by such an outright rejection, but he balled his hands into tight fists, unwilling to let it get to him.

"Can I at least know your name?"

Avelina was a bit surprised, as she did not expect him to ask, but she gave him an answer, "Avelina. My name is Avelina."

"Your name is lovely, Avelina." Edward beamed to bely the fact that he was hurt.

"I hope we meet again." With this being said, he turned around and walked to his car. He got inside and shut the door.

"Edward," a young, gorgeous lady with blonde hair just like him, spoke. Her eyes were blue as well, just like the sky.

Edward glanced at her. "Evelyn, you will not understand."

The lady, Evelyn, was his twin sister and resembled him in every way possible.

"Understand what, Edward? What exactly is it that I can’t understand?" Evelyn asked, sounding a bit irritated. "I can’t comprehend what it is that you see in this human girl. Every single moment, all you think and talk about is her!"

"It is love at first sight, Evelyn! I fell in love with her the second I laid my eyes on her!" Edward snapped. "My heart beat slowly for the first time, and I felt-I felt what it was like for your heart to skip a beat. You would not understand that, Evelyn!"

He laid his face on the steering wheel, feeling deeply disheartened. "You won’t...understand."

Evelyn gazed at him. She had never seen her brother like this before. Was he truly in love with this human girl?

She let out a subtle breath. "Why do you love her, brother? You don’t even know her or the kind of person she is. Not just that, but she is a human. Don’t tell me that you have forgotten how our family feels about humans."

"Even if she agrees to be with you, do you think you can be with her?" she questioned. "Our family will never allow—"

"I don’t care!" Edward retaliated, annoyed. "Nobody whatsoever will tell me who I will and will not be with. I don’t want to talk about this anymore."

No longer willing to linger on the matter, Edward turned the engine on and drove off.

....

Draven glanced at Avelina and slowly pushed her hand off.

"Follow me," he said to her as he began to proceed to his car.

Although a bit afraid, Avelina still followed behind him.

Santino, who was waiting patiently by the car, completely covered to prevent sunburn, opened the door.

"My lady." He gestured with his gloved hands.

Avelina charmingly smiled at him and got into the car. Draven stepped in after her and sat down beside her.

Santino started the car’s engine and drove off to return to the royal mansion. Amidst the ride, Avelina, who had her head lowered, was fidgeting nervously with her hands.
